What temperature should this be set at?

55 degrees. I used to set mine at 50 degrees but a heating engineer told me it is supposed to be 55 to eliminate any possibility of Legionnaires Disease forming in the tank. Pretty unlikely I know but I can see a sound logic to it.

Do you have to drain the cylinder first in order to replace a faulty one? It comes with two metal tubes that supposedly goes inside the cylinder?

We did not have to drain the cylinder first but do not know if all cylinders are the same!
