Another reviewer claimed that this game includes the original The Resistance game with this pack, is that true or must they be purchased separately?

They must be purchased separately, but if you play without the "Merlin" and "Assassin" role cards it will be the same game (though in my opinion less fun ; the role cards are why I bought the Avalon version)

Does Avalon work with the 2 current expansions?

Yes, sortof.  You have to remove the role cards from Avalon to set it up as basic Resistance.  The expansions that add new characters cards will not work with Avalon, unless you use sleeves that hide the card backs.   You don't need the Hidden Agenda expansion because Avalon is a mashup of The Resistance with Hidden Agenda.

Question 3

Has anyone had experience playing Avalon WITH The Resistance game?  The games can be combined... but what does that look like? How? Is it awesome?

You can play The Resistance with the new roles from Avalon, or you can play Avalon with the plot cards from The Resistance. The plot cards offer a deeper level of play, but are more complex and make games longer.

What are the dimensions when shipped? (volumetric and actual)

The box of the game itself is 8x6x2 inches, not very large. I don't recall the size of the box that Amazon sent it in (I had other items in that package I believe).
