Vocal Coach: Complete Breathing

This is not what I expected. There is more conversation about the mechanics of how your body works than actualbreathing exercises. I was very disappointed.

Excellent, thorough breathing and posture instructions, followed by vocal exercises. Assumes you are a beginner and moves gradually from easy to more difficult, coaching as they go. This helped me get my talking voice back after years of bad throat and diaphragm habits.

I find it hard to do these exercises because they dry out my mouth so much. Further, I find the manner of speaking of the instructors, particularly the woman, to be so annoying as to be unendurable. I try to skip the parts where I have to listen to either of the speakers as they try way, way, way too hard. If the intended audience is children, which is the impression I get from their instructions to "repeat that with me," the package should say that. I don't like live people to speak to me in such a manner, and I surely don't want to listen to it over and over again on a recording.

Good instruction

Chris and Carole Beatty do a great job of explaining how we breathe and how to make it work the best. This is a great CD for voice students and teachers. I use it (I'm both a teacher and a student) and it helps me to formulate an explanation to my students. The exercise portion could be a bit more complete, but for what it is, it's well worth the investment.
