Good product
My cats LOVE the cat ladies cat grass.. I tried a different brand when these were unavailable and I couldn't believe they didnt really eat it. Apparently the soil makes a difference and this is their preference. Grass grows within a couple days.

One questions not asked answered - works as the add says
Didn't know why the dogs growled when these arrived until opened and saw all the cat stuff (joking of course), but bought three initially and here to buy another three. I cannot think of any better way of saying these are worth it. Why? Used them today, beginning of Feb 2021, correct, since the test on hot pepper seeds in a seed tray worked out way better than expected (grow tray with their own little version, add some water tablets). These were bought for the transplanting into four inch pots. Filled 21 of them versus using 18 disks, and had enough to left to try their seed starting instructions. Okay so maybe overly optimistic that the second run of new seeds will germinate, but have 75% get their true leaves first try... These at a minimum made transplanting very easy even for a novice. Something not yet mentioned in reviews that I saw, if you want to entertain youngsters for a couple of hours...they will fight over who gets to do the next magic trick, but I digress. Check out their video, that easy. Start out with both pro and con - absolutely wonderfully packaged and each individually wrapped. You can use one disk at a time and not worry about the rest. If you have bad hands, you will need something sharp for the individual opening, but what a wonderful con to have to deal with! I think these will work great to try and grow and replace the other stuff I might have accidentally mowed and get those planted come spring as well...but that is a different story. I do believe I did mention 21 hot pepper seedlings, versus ornamental grass that looks like...grass.

Cute, handy. Good life.
I know they're separate listings, but this applies to both the coco coir and regular mix. Otherwise great product; the only real flaw is the packaging which looks 100% identical. Luckily I realized quick and put them in different places in my plant supply area, and was part way thru the regular ones before I started using these, so it was more obvious. It's sort of reusable, in a sense. For nutrients, not really, but if you're supplementing and giving good aeration like with large perlite rocks (like I did) then it lasts a long time and can be built on. Um, not really mold resistant if you're pairing with too much water, compostable products, and absentmindedness. And a destructive/plant-killing family member. So watch what you're doing. Overall, novice-proof, but not perfect.

Expands quite a bit!
I bought a bag of organic wheat grass seeds for my cats, used a portion of seeds with this soil. It was very easy to use, and produces quite a bit of dirt mix when water is added. Almost thinking of using 1/2 of a disk (as it expands substantially when water is added). Also, I need a filter or some sort of disposable plant container for the bowl that I used the first time around. Very nice dirt! And my cats are eating the grass as needed.

Expands A LOT
I brought a few plants and needed some soil to pot them in. I brought these in hopes of not having a large bag of soil that I then have to store. When I looked at them at first, they didn't seem like they'd produce much soil so I put 2 of them in a cup with water... Boy was I wrong. The soil is so packed that it started overflowing the cup as it absorbed the water. It is really amazing to watch. The soil once expanded was very good to pot with. I would recommend NOT expanding them in a cup. I found that when I did, it expanded rapidly and became difficult to unwedge from the bottom of the cup. A bowl would be better where the edges are further from the edge of the puck. I have a few more of them sitting in the drawer, they come nicely wrapped in plastic so storing the extra ones isn't messy at all. Totally would buy this again.

Didn't exand as much as I had expected
The description specifically says that the disks are supposed to fill a 3- to 4-inch pot. I have a pothos plant that I bought a 6-inch pot for. I figured, at most, I might need 3 disks for a 6-inch pot. Unfortunately, I actually ended up having to use ALL of the disks to fill my 6-inch pot with the soil. So that was a bit frustrating. That is the ONLY reason for knocking off any stars. I had honestly expected to have a few left over and did not get the volume I had expected. The disks are very entertaining to watch expand. They move FAST. There is definitely a fair amount of soil in each disk and it is a very efficient method to store soil. I think that the composition of the soil would make my christmas cactus happier than what it is in right now, so I will likely buy more for that. (I had actually intended to include the leftover disks in the soil for the cactus when I repot it, but that's not going to happen now. :) The soil holds onto a LOT of the water used to expand the disks. That was a bit of a surprise. I had to leave the newly potted plant outside to drain for a couple of hours. Basically, I like these. I will buy them again in the future and use them in conjunction with more traditional potting soil for the plants that I have that like traditional potting soil and on their own for plants like my Christmas Cactus. I would just suggest buying more than you think you will need.

Great
This is great for starting any seeds. Will see if it’s reusable. Overall value for the money, don’t over water seeds, will definitely produce mold. Very, very durable and drains easily. The expansion is great too.
