HOT TUB Chain Lubricant

This is my first adventure into chain waxing, I have used countless other drip lubes from wet, dry, wax, etc. I have used products from white lightning, finish line, muc off, maxima, and others with usually disappointing results. I race BMX so dirt is a constant issue. Trying to keep a drive chain clean is a nightmare. The best results I have previously had were from wax lubes but they didn’t seem to hold up for long and still tended to get grit into the rollers. I did tons of research and found that wax emulsion was supposed to be the king of chain lubes so I finally decided to try it. To prep the chain it has to be stripped to bare metal, I am an auto mechanic so I have access to industrial sized barrels of brake cleaner. I removed the drive chain and submerged in brake cleaner 3 times until no more filth came from the chain and there was a LOT of filth! Once I had it clean I used a 1.5 quart slow cooker and dipped the chain. It took about an hour for the wax to melt and become liquid, once it did I dipped the chain and allowed the mix to reach 200 degrees. Then I agitated the chain in the wax for 5 minutes and removed it. Completely mess free and very simple to do. The only “aggravating” part was waiting for the wax to heat. The rest of the process is painless. I then allowed the chain to hang and cool over night and the next morning I broke loose the stiff links and installed the chain. 100% honestly I have never seen a chain roll as smoothly and quietly as this one did. After a couple of weeks of riding the chain is still smooth and clean! No more dirt and muck caked everywhere! If there is one single issue with this process it is that the chain is showing some surface rust after a couple of weeks. The bike was washed and I imagine that the water from washing it put a little rust on the outer plate surface and since wax doesn’t prevent rust I’m not sure what to do about it. Otherwise this is a fantastic product and after using it I don’t think I will ever go back to anything else.

Easy to apply if you follow the instructions. Two rides in and the chain is silent and seems just as free as a fresh lube job. Big plus is waterproof and no dirt.

Excellent product! I used to have to lube my mountain bike change every 2-3 rides but now after waxing the chain with this product, it would last me quite a few rides!

I'll start by saying that I bought this because I've been curious for a while on how wax worked. I was not disappointed. I put this on my gravel bike, along with my girlfriend's bike. We mostly use the bikes on rail trails but do ride them on the back country roads where I live also. The chains are bright, clean and silent. My girlfriend was notorious for getting grease on her calves. That's a thing of the past now. We have gotten caught in a rainstorm twice since we waxed the chains and there is absolutely zero rust on the chains, still look brand new. We have about 1000 miles on them now and I'm planning on re waxing them as a precaution. It couldn't be any simpler. I bought a cheap pot at the dolla stoe and put the wax in that. Once cool I put it away till next time. I have dipped 6 chains now and it will be enough to dip 100 more I would imagine. We now have it on our road bikes and single speeds. MTN bikes are next. We like to store the bikes in the car when traveling for safety and, well we're just over protective of our bikes. Anyhow, I don't have to worry about wrapping the chains up in plastic bags anymore. Seriously, you could rub your hands across them and barely have a speck of dust on them. I've been told the wax will give the chains a longer lifespan, I'm not there yet, but I'm still very pleased with the results that I have with this product. I'll continue using this on all my chains from now on.

The only way to go, everything you need in one bag, soooo nice. In the past I would buy Teflon powder to add with the other ingredients, no more, I use one half of the bag, measured of course, in my miniature crock pot and measure the temperature, when ready, drop in the pre-cleaned chain. This is now my go to wax, thank you for making this process so easy, I wouldn't hesitate buying again.

I personally look for 2 things when choosing chain lube: 1) It has to be clean, 2) Should be easy to maintain between rides. I've been trying various different dry lube products (finish line teflon lube, muc off dry lube, squirt) and have even experimented with paraffin wax myself but none have worked well for me. At some point they all degrade into a black sludge that eventually impacts the smoothness of the chain and starts leaving greasy dirt where you don't want it. I thought I'd give this stuff a go and I've been really happy with the results - it's the first product which I've used that doesn't attract all the grit and grime from the road - I cycle on dusty roads close to large construction sites as well as by the coast and previously my drivetrain would be filthy/gritty after a 40km ride. Now no such issues - I'd give this product 5/5 for how clean it stays. My only minor gripe is that it doesn't seem to as last as long for me as the other reviewers appear to be experiencing. It might be due to the way I ride - with plenty of sprints over the course of a ride - but it seems as though after a moderate amount of power is applied during a sprint (~800W) the chain is noticeably louder. Still feels smooth enough if I'm cruising along, but I can feel a little roughness creeping in when I accelerate again. I usually get around 150km before I feel I need to re-wax, which is some distance off the 1000 miles I've heard people getting in some reviews. Thankfully the re-waxing process is really easy - just brush off the flaky wax and any dirt that might have accumulated and throw the chain back in the pot. But it means that I am re-applying at least once a week, which I'd prefer not to, so I'm knocking off one star. If you're thinking of giving wax a go - I don't think you'll be disappointed with this product - it's a pretty safe bet, just be aware that it requires a very clean chain, so you'll need to invest in the appropriate products to get your chain suitably prepared (degreaser, denatured alcohol, etc).

Bought this because I was sick of greasy drive train muck. I was using Teflon dry lube that goes on wet and then dries before riding. It worked to lubricate but the chain would still get mucked up despite not being greasy. Waxing has made the chain noticeably cleaner. The chain can be rinsed Clean with water and dried without rusting the chain. The wax lasts a couple of weeks before needing a new application instead of every few days like before. I commute every day 20 miles plus I do recreational rides multiple times a week so even though the process of waxing takes a little more effort since it lasts longer it actually saves me a lot of work in the long run and also makes my chains last longer in between replacements. Since there's no crud build-up, I'm sure the wear on my cassette is greatly reduced too. I've heard similar results can be achieved with basic household paraffin wax which is the main ingredient in this product, however, most DIY waxers usually add Teflon or tungsten to the wax so if you're in the camp that believes this improves performance then this product already has it added in there for you. It's not that much more than plain paraffin so might as well get the full product here.

My first time trying chain wax. Cleaned with ultrasonic and then applied. This stuff is amazing! Super quiet drivetrain now and butter smooth shifting. I'm hooked! Will def be buying again! Thanks for a great product at a good price!
