Great Sound
This is my new favorite speaker. Amazing sound quality and long battery life.

I'll call this Muddy Waters - it floats, but the sound is muffled.
The heft and weight is impressive, as is the sheer volume. It's a LOUD speaker. Using with my iPod (yes, I still use one) pairing was quick and easy. The speaker can control the iPod - pause and skip back and forth. The volume is independent, so you set the volume on the iPod and speaker separately. I tried this speaker with a variety of music. Overall it was muddy sounding. I'd set the EQ for classical and it would sound good, but when some industrial played it was terrible - had to change the EQ again. Most speakers can handle a variety of music without constant adjustment. I found that I had to constantly change the EQ in my iPod based on the music. So if you're strictly playing rock OR metal OR classical, you can set the EQ and forget it. Otherwise you're better off with no EQ and tolerating the muddy sound. For most music it's OK. But for some it was really annoying. One BIG advantage is the water resistance AND that it floats. Combined with the LONG battery life (advertised at 16 hours - I've used it for 11 continuous with no issues!) The speaker battery will outlast you're device's power! That's where the speaker gets clever - beneath the rubber plug that seals a small panel on the back is a USB port - when the speaker is powered on, this charges your device. That's one reason I like my old iPod - it uses almost zero power. I had the speaker powering the iPod and playing music for over 11 hours. So - major pluses are the IPX7 rating, huge internal battery and volume. Nice build quality. The minus - muddy sounding and heavy. Great for beach, pool or crowded rooms. For solo listening where music quality is paramount, not so much.

The fidelity just isn't there
After receiving the No Bounds XL Bluetooth speaker, I fully charged it using the included cable and an Anker charger I have. It came packed very well, as did all the other items I received from the House of Marley. Unlike most of the other speakers I received from the House Marley, there is very little bass reproduction available with the No Bounds XL. To me, the sound signature is so far off, it's not a pleasant experience to listen to music on this device. I promptly placed it back in its packing and put it aside. The No Bounds XL has decent weight to it from the battery and the speaker magnets, I'm sure. It feels very well put together, really solid in my hand. But, the sound quality just doesn't match the build quality. I did not get a chance to check the buoyancy of the speaker as it arrived one week after they closed the pool at our apartment. The device charged quickly and paired easily with my iPhone. Based on the lack of fidelity, I wound not recommend this Bluetooth speaker.

Nice speaker, bass could be deeper especially given the size of the speaker.
This is the most serious bluetooth speaker, I have ever listened to. It’s solid and heavy (nearly 4 pounds) with a cork like base. It has a loop with a carabiner on it. Presumably to keep it secure (think camper, boat, RV, etc.). It seems you can place this speaker on the cork base or the side. I didn’t think about the side, till I realized the M is right side up, if it stood that way. CONTROLS: Power button and bluetooth button are near the loop, as these are things you use infrequently, nice that they moved these away from the other controls. On the front you have plus, pause/pay and minus. I thought it was odd that the plus button was on the left of the pause/play. I always think of plus on the right. However that is only the case, if you have the speaker on the cork base. If you have it on it’s side, so that the M is face up, then the controls are minus, pause/play and plus. Doh! Looking at the pictures of this speaker on Amazon it is meant to be on it’s side. USAGE: BASS IS LACKING My boyfriend is a bit more of an audiophile than I am. So he expected a lot from this speaker. He used his phone as the source and said it was nothing special. I pointed out, that a speaker is only as good as the source of the music. So he downloaded a different player app on his phone so he had some adjustment and was much more pleased with the speaker. For my purposes, I listen to a mix of talk radio, classical, oldies rock, rockabilly, violin and a bit of trance, so yeah, a weird mix. I have a bit of hearing issues here and there (baby boomer who overdid the base) and I think the speaker is okay. Just okay. Some songs I listened to, to rate this. The Man’s too strong, Dire Straits. Does well for the guitar riff, which is my favorite. Crystallize, Lindsey Stirling. Get’s the high pitch of the violin well. Nice definition. Fire, Barns Courtney. Okay but bass could be a bit deeper Hades Pleads, Parker Millsap: Nice Rock & Roll Waltz, Kay Starr: Emphasizes the treble. The Red Violin - Cremona, The Red Violin, Joshua Bell: Nice definition Pachelbel Canon, London Philharmonic: Nice definition Rolling in the Deep, Adele: Did fine but was lacking in the bass WXXI University of Rochester Quadcast I have noticed as listening, that this the sound clearly is favoring the treble over the bass. If I turn the speaker high enough to hear the bass the way I like it (and I do have some hearing loss in this range) , the treble is too loud. I’ve looked online for equalizers, but this seems to only be for downloaded recordings, not streaming music. Not sure how you would adjust streaming music, unless it was built in. I have a tiny bluetooth Sony that seems to balance the treble and bass a bit more to my tastes. About ⅓ the price. However this speaker wins in the volume department, as less than 1/3 of full volume was fine for me. Comparing it to my tiny Sony, which was at 2/3rds volume, size clearly matters. When we are sitting outside by the lake with the tunes playing we will see if the balance of treble to bass is an issue.

Best portable speaker I have used.
This is the best portable speaker I have ever used. The battery life is amazing, especially when compared to others I have used. I have fully charged this thing and had it last for a couple of weeks when I used it just in the truck rides to and from work. During that time I have had it full blast most of the time, or at least very near full blast. It seems this speaker has an awesome battery. These are 20 minute rides and I usually work 5 or 6 days a week. Granted I don't turn it on every single time but most of the time I do. The sound quality is pretty good too. I feel like it has ample bass for being a portable speaker. Nobody should go into a portable speaker of this size and nature and expect something out of it like a home theater but it does get loud, and the bass sounds relatively loud when compared to the speakers size. I think it sounds better than the radio in my truck, even if it can't get as loud as my truck. The build quality is great. It seems rather rugged, but I am notoriously easy on all my stuff so there is a very small chance I would ever even drop anything I own let alone treat it rough, but it does appear to me that this thing can handle some abuse. The connections are covered with the same materials with those little things that you pull out and they just hang there while you use the port. This is nice for those using it outside a lot or just for prolonged use where you don't want the ports to get dusty or dirty. Good sound quality, long lasting battery, and it is pretty rugged. I would say this is a definite worthwhile purchase if you are in the market.

For such a powerful speaker, the battery life is decent. Sound is excellent.
The speaker's sound is what really impressed me. Definitely some deep lows, the high notes come out very clean. I compared to an older style Bluetooth speaker that I had, night and day. Not tinny at all. Compared to full size speakers it's lacking the complete range. This speaker is not going to replace your surround sound, but what single speaker would? It's large, and heavy for portable. So it might hurt your back if you try to carry in with your school books. But definitely small enough to carry around in the house, to the pool or in your car. It's about a little under 5lbs. Very solid construction. Pairing with devices was very easy for us. Because this speaker is waterproof it's a great choice for the pool or camping. We took the speaker out and played sound off the iPad to watch movies. It really added a lot to the experience. Loud enough for everyone to see. Battery life is semi issue but for something with this kind of sound the fact that it can be battery operated is amazing. I got a few hours, I think we got through more than two movies. So it was long enough for us. Also you could hook it up to a charger. Overall I was quite impressed. I really like the speaker and it's our new go-to. Much better than the small Bluetooth speakers we were using previously.

Nice build, bad sound
Overall house of marley no bounds and nobounds xl are beautiful speakers well built and quite cheap (bought my xl at 50 usd) wich make a great value for the money overall as they do what they promise. But sound quality is just not enought. Having owned only jbl speakers before, this experience is just not good enought as the bass is weak and a lot of the backgroind sound of the music is lost along this issue.

works nicely, good sound
The good points - good sound, with an impressive volume range - heavy so wont get knocked over easily, has a good base - water resistant Not so good - the "instruction booklet" is so small as to be useless - no written instructions, just pictures and those so tiny I missed the bit about holding down for 3 secs to pair so had to find them online (not easy) and enlarge to see. - the buttons are so well matched with the material that they are hard to see too That said, once I saw the instructions, pairing was easy and straightforward and so was operating.
