Lifesaver tow bars
Used this to tow a jeep wrangler that broke down 2 hrs from home. Worked like a charm. Nice and heavy duty material. A great buy. Saved us a ton - didn’t have to have it towed.

5,500 miles in 13 days!
Waited until the end to review. This is the best value and super sturdy. Drove almost 5,500 miles in 13 days pulling a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport. South Texas to Arkansas then the scenic route to Kenai, Alaska. Zero issues. Some areas of this drive were pretty rough. Our 16 year old disconnected his Jeep at various stops with ease. We connected it directly to the frame of his Jeep with the provided hardware and it was a sturdy hold. In six months we’ll be towing it back south. This tow bar shows no wear and is ready to work for us again in the fall. Update: 15,000 more miles and still going strong. Towed my son’s Jeep another 15,000 miles and I see no wear. While 4x4 riding his clutch went out. Hooked up to a truck and towed it home to repair. It really is easy and convenient to use. Still a great value!!!

Tough Tow Bar
I had to give it three stars for the "ease of installation" because of the three inch bolts that hold the swivels on. I put over 200 lbs. of torque on them and still didn't get them all the way down. I have the tools to do it but I would guess most people do not. The nuts and bolts I'm talking about are consumable and only meant to be used once since you don't torque them down after the they're all the way down. I think I'm going to replace them with Grade 8 bolts and use castle nuts so they stay attached. Other than that, I really like the tow bar. It works great with the Smittybilt front bumper too.

Great heavy duty tow bar
The tow bar is nice and heavy duty, and worked just as advertised towing my Wrangler with the Smittybuilt bumper. My only complaints echo those in previous reviews - only front chains are included, while front and rear are pictured in the instructions, and the bolt/spacer setup on the bumper attachment is not optimum. Even with the spacers there was slack, causing clunking when braking. All in all I think it worked great though. The Jeep didn't sway, and the setup was easy to install and remove.

Incredible Value
To get something better than this one would have to spend hundreds more for a Roadmaster Stowaway (with my new Smittybilt bumper I had to take the Roadmaster off my Jeep). I was really surprised how well made this Smittybilt Tow Bar is. The picture is misleading as this tow bar is amazing. Comes with extras to allow you to choose how you want to mount it. I have a Smittybilt bumper so it fit perfectly. Removing and replacing is a little more difficult due to its weight. I put it on an ice chest to support it for installing and for disconnecting. Be prepared to put a lot of muscle into those bolts that hold it on. I use it on my Jeep Wrangler so once I put the transfer case into Neutral all I have to do is grab the tow bar and pull the Jeep up to the hitch. Tracked very smoothly, no drifting. I highly recommend this tow bar. I tow it behind by pick up to places like Montana so I have it there to play around on back roads without having to drive it all the way there (from Oregon).

Great deal and does the job ....
Hooked this up to my 98 Jeep Wrangler TJ for towing behind my RV. Fit well. No issues. No problems hooking it up or connecting to the RV. Beats buying the competitor brands at $2k +. Definitely worth the $ to me. I did swap out the bolts for grade 8 ones. Did purchase a set of safety cables as it only comes with one set of chains (shows 2 sets on the box.). If you don't mind hooking / unhooking with a little bit of effort , this is for you so I look at it as paying myself a few thousand $ to occasionally hook up to RV with a tiny bit of effort. EJ in La. Stay safe.

Perfect Fit
I purchased this to flat tow a Jeep Wrangler. Although I have a Smittybilt bumper, this tow bar should work on any bumper with welded "D" ring shackle mounts. I think Smittybilt says it only works on their bumper is for liability purposes because they know the shackle mounts on their bumpers are good for a least 5000 pounds. The safety chains are short and are intended to be attached to the towing vehicle with a cheap carabiner instead of a clevis hook. I went to Harbor Freight and purchased a set of safety chains so I could feel comfortable. Included in the package is sufficient hardware to connect the towbar to a steel bumper that is not equipped with shackle mounts. The bolts are not grade 8 (probably not even grade 5), but Smittybilt says they're good enough for 5000 pounds and that is good enough for me (except for the cheap carabiner).

Solid tow bar for $140.
I purchased this tow bar to get ready for a 1000 mile vacation tow this summer. I used it to tow my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. My JK is pretty well modified, so I weighed it; 4,860 lbs. I factored in an additional 130 pounds for the tow bar, the two inflatable kayaks and some other camping items I threw in back and figure I towed right at 5,000 lbs. The tow bar worked perfectly and showed no signs of wear at the conclusion of the tow; and we hit a lot of hills from central California to central Oregon and back. The Jeep tracked perfectly behind the motorhome. I will disclose here to all who will read this review that I was very worried about the strength of the grade 5 bolts that came with the tow bar, so for an additional $25 I changed them all out to grade 8. I knew Smitty wouldn't cover my changes if something went wrong, but the stronger bolts gave me peace of mind (and I had the back-up cam on the whole drive watching!).

Works perfectly! It is exactly as ordered, so I added two more safety chains to secure at both ends

Exactly as described. Showed up early and bolts right to my poison spider bumper d ring mounts. Good fit. Only downside is it only comes with one pair of safety chains.
