Color Oops Extra Conditioning Hair Color Remover, 1 Application | Processes in 20 Minutes, Safely Removes Permanent & Semi-Permanent Dye, Ammonia & Bleach Free

I used to use this when I was young and tried lots of different hair colors. It worked, but it left my hair fried and orange. I'm not sure if they have a new formula but it worked great. I used a temporary hair color that didn't want to wash out. Remembering this product I decided to give it a try. It worked better than it did before. I followed the directions and used a clarifying shampoo to remove residue. Didn't dry out my hair. I did lose a big chunk of it which was not good but it is a harsh process so it makes sense. The smell isn't that bad but it did linger for a few days. Got my blonde hair color back. No complaints. I will definitely be using this again if I need it. Used 2 boxes for my long hair.---EDIT: after a month, my hair still smells like the chemical used in this product. My hair is also a touch brassy now. Seems to be falling out more. However, this doesn't change my rating. It removed my color, I was aware there were risks. My hair looks healthy and I have my natural curls back. I'm sure it will recover once I stop processing it and coloring it.

So the reason I think it has the bad reviews is because:1. the smell2. the brassy color that people are sometimes getting#1 I guess I can see that, it smells like rotten boiled eggs, but I’ve smelled worse on airplanes for much longer and tbh wasn’t surprised#2 If you read the directions and warnings in its entirety, you’ll see that highlighted/bleached hair will definitely need to go back to the salon for. This is because the bleach reacts differently than dye/toner to this product, so it will come out brassy instead. I had a few highlights that were very faded and leftover and could barely see this happened, but wasn’t surprised when it did. But again, only a warning to the highlighted hair folks. IF what happened to me happen to you, use this!!!My case: I went to a new stylist per a referral, and asked for “one shade darker”. I have naturally brown hair and had never all over dyed it. TLDR she dyed it black. I gave it a few days to come out but it never faded. I didn’t hate it but didn’t love it.My process: since I originally wanted “one shade darker” and still did, I did half/minimum the recommended time. So - 10 mins sitting, 15 min rinse/shampoo, 5 minute rinse/shampoo 3x. I also did a test on a strand, was SHOCKED with how well it worked (seeing the color brown again was all I wanted) and then did the whole thing same time all over again on my entire head. Total time was 2 hours.Hair Loss: this was my biggest worry outside of getting brassy hair and so I watched it like a hawk. Hindsight 20/20 there was no hair loss lol. In the moment it felt like there was, but that was because I was constantly running my fingers through my hair while rinsing, aka pulling out 1-2 strands each time LOL. This stopped completely after shampoo #2 and I stopped panicking for no reasonShampoo: I used a moisturizing shampoo. 10/10 recommend because my hair is so soft after washing it so much and your hair will appreciate it!Results: When I was done, I wasn’t completely sure it had done much, because you have to remember, you’re rinsing for so long that the color is SLOWLY coming out with the long rinsing and not dumping off your head like it does normally day 1 after the salon.But my rating!? 10/10. My hair is no longer weighed down by a pound of black hair dye AND curls up again like it used to. Also, it’s not fried from this product and should be even better than it was in a few days. So happy with this product and saved me money from going back to the salon!! If you’re nervous to try it, for $12 it’s so worth it! Thank you!!!!!

I tried this on my reddish hair (naturally brown) and it did take a bit of the red tint out but the REALLY damaged my hair. It felt worse than your typically bleach damage. I had my hair professionally dyed a reddish brown color but hadn’t had any new red added to my hair in at least 2 years (no dye at all in over a year). I was wanting to go neutral so could lighten my hair without so much brassy tone and also try to avoid a lot of bleaching jobs to limit damage. I figured if this didn’t take the color out since it was so old and stayed in my hair for so long that it wouldn’t be damaging and I could just go the bleaching route.It’s made it’s really difficult to lighten as I still have ongoing dryness and damage from this initial product so now bleaching is nerve wracking.I noticed not only dryness but my hair tangles easily and I have way more hair falling out than before.it’s constantly frizzy looking too and so lifeless because I am trying to lighten a bit at a time after how badly this left my hair, it’s a muddled dark blond and almost greenish in parts (not from this product but from how it lightened after I used this and then tried to tone it the red out)I should have just bleached it afterall and had better results if I was gonna end up with damage. I used this in Oct and I am struggling to lighten it and not ruin my hair. I lightened it in Nov but have been trying to repair it before I attempt to try to lighten it anymore. It’s so ugly I don’t take photos or haven’t gone out to see my friends since using this product.I can’t believe this little box has completely changed my life in such a negative way and for so long. It would be one thing if bleach had caused this but knowing that the problem was from this product that maybe lifted the red by a shade wasn’t worth it.

Im giving this 5 stars because it has always worked for me except this time so I thought id warn you all!The photos are before and after using Color Oops on processed(bleached), hair with Arctic Fox Transynvania. It started fading into green and purple which was kind of cool, but really not what I was looking for. Using Dawn dish soap a couple of times did help left it out but ultimately, I knew I would turn to color oops though I did have a suspicion my hair would turn more green because the last time I dyed my hair purple I tried using bleach to get it out and it turned my hair green. 🙃 Color Oops doesnt have ammonia or bleach but I just kind of knew it would struggle to lift this color out.I rinsed my hair for more than 20 minutes, with and without shampoo until the water ran clear. After 10 minutes the rinsing water was still blue so absolutely rinse your hair for 20+ minutes.I will say though... I have lifted permanent black dye from my hair multiple times with Color Oops. It never goes back to the blonde you had before if thats your goal, but it will lift the color out. Arctic Foxs Transylvania however is the first dye I could not get out of my hair. It did lighten it a bit but for the most part my hair is still very green and purple.This stuff does smell like rotten eggs so prepare for that and it lingers on your hair for at least a day.

Update:Okay, so I ended up having to do a lot of work to get my hair more like my natural color. After stripping the hair using this product I attempted to use a toner. As you can see in the photos it did lighten it. But it's still ended up looking really red later. I could have probably left it alone and got used to it but it was driving me crazy. So I went and picked up a box bleach (cuz I just didn't feel like dealing with powder since I don't have a second mirror behind me in my bathroom now) and then I used a different toner in a different shade (opted for a blue instead of purple toner). The last picture was the end result. And I think I got pretty close to my natural. Enough that my hair can grow out and blend better.Original Review:Unfortunately, I guess if you go red, it considers it a "lightener" and this stuff doesn't really work (because it says in the instructions that it won't work if you go lighter. It'll only work if you go darker when you color your hair). I will say that it DID lighten my hair, almost as if it bleached it slightly, but leaving that brassy yellow-orange. Ugh. I don't know if a toner can help but I guess I have no choice but to try.Yes, this IS drying. However, my hair was already pretty damaged since I used a boxed hair dye before that was on the cheaper side, and it did a number on my hair. So I can't blame this product for that. It actually did not dry out my hair as much as I thought it would. I didn't experience any shedding while applying\rinsing over what I normally experience - but that doesn't mean I won't have break off later. If the break off is really bad I will try to remember to update this post. If I use a toner and it helps I will try to remember to update this post.I will include all kinds of before and after pictures. Please keep in mind that the camera on my phone is awful and it's always adjusting the color\hues... However you can see there is a difference. Just not the result I was hoping for. Nonetheless, with it pulling out a lot of the actual red and just going lighter it might make it blend better as my natural grey grows out. So I don't think it was a total waste. Just not the results I was hoping for.One thing that I have going against me is that I was born a natural redhead. And so even when my hair was greying I still had copper highlights (you could really see them in natural lighting)... I think this hair color-stripper just brought those copper highlights out in their natural form LOL... which is kind of funny. I do notice that in a lot of the after pictures you can see streaks of white. So it definitely took the color out where I was naturally white already.

Worked to remove old red hair dye on unhealthy, graying hair texture. Will stink. Required after care/deep conditioning. Didn’t think it was working but did the 20 minute rinse and saw the results. Hair not fully back to original color /dark blonde, more strawberry blonde, brass undertone.

I have been dyeing my hair for years and years. My natural color was auburn when I was younger but I started going gray early. Over the years, I've mostly dyed my hair some shade of auburn. I've decided I'm old enough to stop coloring my hair so I switched to strawberry blonde color to lighten up before letting my natural silver/light gray color grow in. Unfortunately, that left me with silver/light gray roots and enough lingering strawberry blond that it looked bad when my hair is wet. Since an upcoming family reunion will include pool time I didn't want that look.I decided to color my hair to closely match my natural color so it would gradually blend in. That plan went horribly wrong when a dye labeled as ash blonde left my hair gunmetal gray. So dark it was almost purplish black. I knew I couldn't go back to strawberry blonde since it was so dark and three daily shampoos with dandruff shampoo lightened it to more of a grayish brown but not enough that my light roots won't really show at the reunion. I decided to try this color remover.According to the directions, I could expect this product to remove the dark dye color but would likely leave my hair blonde even though that's not my natural color. I figured that would leave my hair light enough that my natural silver/light gray color should blend in as it grows. I applied the dark color on Monday and used this product on Saturday so the dye was new.The directions are to apply the product and put on a shower cap for 20 minutes (or maybe 25). Then shampoo your hair then rinse it for 15-20 minutes. After that you are to shampoo again then rinse it for five minutes three times. Then condition. You use your own shampoo and conditioner. My concern with doing this in the shower was that I would run out of warm water. I figured I could handle cold water on just my head so my intent was to do this in the kitchen sink but it's metal. The directions clearly say this product is not supposed to come into contact with any metal surface. I decided to do this leaning over the tub using a handheld sprayer. After ten minutes of rinsing, my knees and back hurt and I knew I couldn't continue in that position and moved into the shower. Luckily, I had enough warm water. I ended up following the directions so at the end I had shampooed four times and rinsed for a total of 35 minutes plus a few more minutes of time to condition, let it sit then rinse it out.I was left with very light blonde hair, a color I've never had. But it's light and I can see that my natural color should just blend in as it grows. I used a good shampoo (not the dandruff shampoo) and conditioner during the process. My hair was left in good condition, just a little drier than normal. I think I could color my hair again if I wanted and it wouldn't damage my hair. The product smells no worse than my hair dye did. In fact, it left no lingering odor in the bathroom.I recommend the product, but be prepared for the process. It takes a while and requires a lot of rinsing. I have short hair and one bottle was plenty for me. I'm sure for longer hair you'll need a second bottle.

This worked perfectly, but I wish I had some idea of just how intense the smell is. When you mix it, the smell isn't terribly noticeable. You get sulfur, but it is mild compared to the developed product smell. I followed instructions and rinsed as directed, but it stuck to my hair and I locked up pretty badly. My friend had to review the instructions for me, and coax me into rinsing more because my ability to problem solve completely broke down. I insisted I followed the instructions! Lol. It was a mess. I have always dyed and bleached my own hair and am able to tolerate most coloring products. This is on a whole other planet. Be careful, and good luck!

No way!!! OK I bought this hoping for the best unboxed it got it ready, after seeing the bottle in the liquid I was absolutely like no way. Is this going to work? So I slapped it on my head. Had this floral smell and then a smell of a Septic truck. I’m like OK. Either nothing’s gonna happen. This is going to work or I’m going to lose my hair. At this point, I’m fully committed.I am blow drying my hair right now, and it has lifted three applications of box die that I wanted out of my hairThis product completely exceeded any expectation I ever had and then someWow!!!I want to do this amazing purple, but I ended up doing a brown and then a chocolate brown and then the purple and it just wasn’t working out so now I can do a very light bleach tone it out put the purple on and it’ll be amazing of course I will be giving my hair a hot minute to calm down after all that!!Thank you!!!
