My gentle kitties love it!
I have many cats. This toy is a favorite for my gentlest cats. It keeps the two gentle boys fascinated. I put it on for them for 20 to 40 minutes at a time and they play with it the entire time itโs on. I was hesitant to buy a battery powered electronic cat toy, but I have had this one for at least two weeks now and put it on for them every day and have not had to change the batteries yet. As with any electronic toy PLEASE do not leave your cat unattended with this toy on. We move it to whatever room weโre in and turn it on and make sure itโs always in our line of sight when it is on. When it is off, you tuck the string behind the strap or wrap it around the door knob so that your cat will not chew it off and eat it. This is a great product and I recommend it to entertain your Indoor cat. One tip, you have to have something like a stopper on your door to keep your door in place or have the door closed so that it doesnโt move around while the cats are playing with it. I think this toy is well worth the money considering my cats have played with it for at least 20 hours already.

Durable toy thatโs fun for cats
Excellent cat toy. Not every cat will like it, but the ones who do like it, love it. The only possible improvement I could suggest is to make this a toy that is motion activated (as a feature that could be selected). Some users might prefer a cat toy that can be charged. However, the fact that it simply runs on batteries, might be the very feature that makes this toy simple and reliable. My cat can pull hard on that string attached to the elastic band as far as she can and the toy doesnโt break. This is an award winning cat toy.

Cat will love it - while it lasts
I am currently awaiting a fourth version of this toy. I would give it a low rating for longevity, but my cat worships it. The first one lasted maybe four months, the second one lasted a month or two, the third one would not turn on out of the box. But watching my cat sadly try to get it to start working was enough for me to order another one. The first problem was the elastic - which is incredibly hardy but when a cat non-stop pulls on it all the time (even when it is off) for months, the seam eventually starts to pull, creating a pucker which makes it stop rotating on every cycle. The toy is built to stop running when the string is caught, so there is no danger of ..whatever danger could happen by being pulled into a plastic toy by an elastic band. The second problem was apparently something that has an answer/solution on the website. The string would catch frequently (which I never had a problem with on the first one) and I would have to adjust it to get it to keep running. I think this eventually caused the motor to burn out. I have no idea why the third one would not work out of the box. I'm crossing my fingers that the next one that comes is more like the first one I got. I can't really justify getting a fifth one. Let me explain again how much my cat loves this thing. He will frequently play with it until I turn it off - up to thirty minutes at a time. He hides, pounces, sits and stares, and runs at it from all directions. Sometimes he's not in the mood, I admit. But when he is in the mood he sits in front of this thing, gently pawing at the string and staring at it until I turn it on. When it breaks, he still tries to get me to turn it on by sitting in front of it. When I take it off the door and lay it down, he sadly stands vigil and stares at it, again gently pawing at the string - desperately trying to get it to work. That's why I gave it four stars. It's 100% worth the trouble - but maybe not the price since it will probably need to be replaced.

Great toy and concept..BUT.......I've gone thru 2. Motor keeps burning out within a month.
There are several pros as well as cons to this toy. It's a great idea, no other like it. I bought high mah rechargeable batteries which help a lot. Now...I've read a lot of reviews on here. Some I agree, some are strange(as usual). After a day, the string kept getting stuck at the top of the roller. My cat would meow when it happened which told me she was mad. So I'd untangle it....and untangle it.....and unangle it. Everything in the rollers is clean. It KEPT happening because from being stuck, the string formed a circlular pattern in the shape of the roller. It it is a little rough on the door, but nothing damaging. For $30 though, I'd have thought for all the rave, a more durable string, as well as safer string could be used. Also, some sort of way to replace the string. A long string, short string etc... Is it worth $30? Not really. $20, yes. Cat loves it though, but definitely need to keep a frequent eye when she is playing with it. For string tangles, and possible safety risks like the string coming off, or being eaten. The concept is FANTASTIC and it's quieter than most electric toys I've tried. Some are REDICULOUSLY loud. Hence my 3 star review. It's almost a 4, except for the price and the safety concerns. For the price, there shouldn't be the safety concerns that are involved with the toy. Do I recommend it? Yes. But I would NOT leave it on while your out of the house. If you do, don't get on here and write reviews that your cat was injured. You left your cat unsupervised and it CLEARLY SAYS,USE WITH SUPERVISION. Therefore, it's also your fault, in part of the safety concerns of the toy. Now, I had to get it replaced once because the motor blew. Got replacement, and 2 weeks later...boom. Stopped working again motor shot. What's up with this??? Twice?? This manufacturer needs to do something about the motors. I'm not the only one.

Finally wore it out after 10+ years of use but my old cat still loves it so I got a second one at his insistence!

My cat ripped off and ate the entire string within days of me buying this
The title says it all. Well actually I'll tell you more because I've got some time to kill. Sooo I don't normally write reviews but COME ON GUYS. This toy is literally supposed to be made for cats to chew on and attack and it ripped off a few days after getting it! On top of that, my cat didn't even like it that much, which is why I left it out unsupervised (something you should definitely not do if you still buy this toy for some reason after reading this). He really didn't seem to care about it much at all. Also it's pretty ugly right? Orange with a rainbow string and a doofy cat on the top?? I mean, I knew it was gunna be ugly when I bought it, but still - there's like NO redeeming factors about this toy. Anyways, I just got off the phone with the vet and I guess I'm just supposed to wait for my cat to poop the string out... Which is CRAZY to me because of how long the string is. If he starts acting weird or doesn't pass it, there's a good chance he'll need surgery. So I'm not panicking (lol is that really how you spell panicking??) yet, but this could be a really big deal (also potentially sad and/or expensive). Any review on here that say their cat has been playing with this toy for years are amazing to me. Those people must have pretty weak cats or something. Not that I saw my cat do it, he may have really worked at it, but I feel like toys like this are just flawed from the start. To summarize: this toy is ugly (lol), poorly made, dangerous, and my cat didn't even like it that much when it was working the way it was supposed to. If I were you, I'd just buy one of the many other cheaply made, inexpensive cat toys - but just get one that doesn't entice your cat to easily rip off and eat one of the parts.

Milo & Lucy's Absolute FAVORITE! - And Moody Pet is AMAZING!
Five stars simply aren't enough for the Fling-a-ma-String! I've owned countless cat toys over the years, but nothing has captivated my two kitties, Milo and Lucy, quite like this. It's a non-stop, hilarious frenzy of feline fun! Milo, my more solitary hunter, loves to stalk and pounce on the string when it's moving slowly. He gets this intense, focused look in his eyes, like he's channeling his inner jungle cat. Lucy, on the other hand, is a social butterfly, and she ADORES playing with Milo when I start the toy. They chase the string together, batting at it with their paws, and even take turns trying to catch it mid-air. It's the cutest thing to watch! They've developed this whole elaborate game around it, and it keeps them entertained for hours. What's truly fantastic about this toy is its versatility. It satisfies both their individual play stylesโhuntingโand their need for interactive play. Whether they're playing together or independently, the Fling-a-ma-String keeps them engaged and active, which is wonderful for their physical and mental stimulation. And let's talk about Moody Pet! I was absolutely blown away by their customer service. After a few months of intense play (and believe me, Milo and Lucy are intense!), the elastic strap started to show some wear. I emailed Moody Pet, and they sent me replacement parts completely FREE of charge! I mean, who does that anymore? It's clear they stand behind their product, and that kind of generosity and customer service is incredibly rare. If you have cats, you NEED this toy. It's a guaranteed hit, and the fact that Moody Pet offers free replacement parts makes it an even better investment. My kitties, Milo and Lucy, give it a resounding paws-up, and I do too! Videos to follow! Thanks, Moody Pet.

Stopped working in less than two weeks
I was really disappointed in this product; mainly because it got such good reviews, so I expected it to last longer than two weeks, but yesterday was the two week "anniversary" of my receipt of this toy and it had stopped working three days before that. It didn't break, it just died. I thought it might need new batteries, because I had to replace the batteries it came with pretty quickly so I thought maybe this was a battery sucking toy, but even with brand new batteries, (and jiggling, banging, twisting and shaking) it won't turn on. I didn't even use it that much; maybe 45 minutes a day, broken into 15 minute intervals. Now, I do have to say that if this hadn't died, I suspect that the string would have broken off, or the elastic band would have shredded within another week or two of use because the materials are pretty cheap- definitely not adequate for a toy that is intended to be clawed and bitten by cats. When I first got it, the band rotated smoothly, but within days the band had a number of holes in it, and the string was so pulled, that it "jammed" very frequently in use. Usually my cat was able to work it free himself though so that wasn't a really big deal. Let me say, when it was working, my cats loved it. This is quite impressive when you consider my one cat, who is bored with jingling balls, catnip filled plush toys and laser points that he knows he wont ever catch. From the minute I turned this toy on, he was transfixed, watching the string repeatedly appear and disappear and biting and clawing at it in random bursts of rage/excitement. I would turn it off after about 15 minutes because not only does it make a "whirring" noise, but it would bang against the door I had it attached to - I finally figured out that If I pinned a towel behind it, it was much quieter. I really wish it had lasted longer because every time I approached it my cat would follow me, eager for me to turn it on so he could play. Overall though, I can't recommend that anyone purchase this product; you don't really get what you pay for. I would recommend a similar product though, made of higher quality materials if you can find it.

90% likelihood your cat will like it. And this toy is BUILT TO LAST!
The TOP toy in the automated / human-free category for cats! My cat hates automated toys - they are either too loud, too fast and harsh, or the movements just donโt come off "organic" enough for her. But this one really does it! The inclusion of the elastic band (to attach it to any standing surface) and a large hook (to hang it off any door or drawer of reasonable height) is a smart design choice! Iโve latched this toy in multiple places to shake things up for her, she loves strings and the movement on this toy although repetative is enough to keep her curious! Shoutout also to the mechanics keeping this sucker running, often enough my cat manages to bite onto the string and this would prevent the motor from rotating the elastic band???? But on off on off and this toy is still going strong - pretty sure itโs made of really good parts inside! And it is also easy to replace the inner elastic band & string with easy-to-find sewing materials (little stitching skills is required!) But I came back to this listing to actually buy a back up because for years Iโve never seen them available anywhere else but itโs currently unavailable and Iโm shocked at the number of reviews this item severely deserves??????? Maybe itโs the stupid Amazon algorithm. Anyway BEST TOY HANDS DOWN and trust me cos Iโve bought almost every damn cat toy ever existed for my cat (except for the obviously retarded and dangerous ones).

Best cat toy ever.
I'd give this 10 out off 10, My cat is 9 years old and she absolutely loves this toy it's worth every penny had hours of fun watching her play on Christmas day and every day since. She even wakes me up early hours in the morning for me to switch it on so she can play but she gets annoyed when batteries stop so bought Amazon basic charger & rechargeable batteries to keep her happy. Happy cat happy owner.

Cats love it - good heavy duty construction.
If you have multiple cats, or a lonely cat that you don't have time to play with this toy is pretty good. Our cats love it, and in comparison to some of the other electronic toys we have bought in the past, I would recommend it whole heartedly. It is durable, well made and fits over our interior door knobs snugly without problem or bother. You can leave it on the knob and still use the door normally. Plus the cats really like it - but still not as much as a piece of string with a human operating the other end....
