Pop & Lock – Manual Tailgate Lock for Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, Fits 1999 to 2007 Models (Black, PL1100)

If your looking for a well fitting, good looking, easy install , durable , secure gate handle it your best buy for the price.. its compatible with my sierra, fit like a glove 1999. Doesn't move a whole lot or make any noise that I can tell. It locks the right hand side of the tailgate, so if you want it more secure you have to do a custom locking arm inside. Its relatively durable for hard plastics

This device works as advertised. It locks the tailgate handle so that the tailgate cannot be opened. The device is fairly easy to install but did require some fiddling. The device does only lock one side as some reviews indicate. I feel that the device will prevent casual theft. A determined thief will be able to defeat it with time. It fit a 2006 Chevy Silverado.

Good price, good quality, quick delivery. Easy to install (use bolt that comes with kit for a snug fit - I tried to use a bolt with a different head on it - but I could not get a snuggle fit).

Like many others have said.... Decent idea, a bit weak on the design. Good for keeping casual thieves at bay, but it's not going to stop a determined thief. It's a step above having a sticker that says "please don't open my tailgate and steal my stuff". Buy it knowing that it's a deterrent, not a fool-proof thief stopper and you won't be disappointed. Again, as others have said, stainless hardware would have been nice. It should be marketed as a Handle Jammer, not a lock. That's all that is taking place is the handle is mechanically blocked from being lifted. And truth be told, it's only really blocking the right side. With the right amount of tweak, the left side will still unlock. Again, it's to keep the unmotivated thieves from getting your stuff. Looks halfway stock to the tailgate, so that's a nice bonus. Mine said "Assembled in Canada" for those you who keep up with that stuff. Fitting, because the truck was assembled there too.

I bought this for my 2007 Silvy 1500 Classic (with a tonneau). Looks kinda factory and works well. Basically its a fancy way to jam the handle from opening when 'locked' when unlocked it just allows you to pull the handle to open. If you get a determined punk with a crowbar or some other tool, this thing ain't stoppin him, he's gettin it... Its made to give some piece of mind and to deter a quick grab of your items (if you have a bed cover) or worse your whole TAILGATE! FOR MY APPLICATION: From start to finish it took me about 20 minutes to install. I had to remove my black plastic liner off the inside of the tailgate. After the liner was off, I put one of the (2) 13mm bolts back in to hold the lock assembly in while I installed this unit (took all of 3 seconds) and bolted it up with their included security screw. REMOVE the 13mm bolt and put the black liner back on and put BOTH 13mm bolts in and all the screws for the liner. NOTE: What I did was remove the POP & LOCK sticker, looks better. On the lock solenoid itself, I took a dremel and grinded off the stamped KEY CODE right next to where you insert the key. Anyone could order up your same key and use it to access the lock. Write the key code down or keep the extra key somewhere safe. That was kinda stupid on their part. I gave it 5 stars, does what it says, easy to install, shipped fast and no issues with the unit.

Garbage absolutely junk does not fit does not work now. I’m stuck with this thing and I have to go through the procedure of trying to return it through Amazon. What a pain in you know what I am not some average guy that doesn’t know how to work on vehicles either I built trucks for 11 I’m a custom fabricator. This thing is a piece of junk. It does not fit no matter what you do it does not fit. Do not buy this product.

Update – 11/16/2025: I’ve had some valuable items in the bed of my truck, and without a lock I was starting to feel vulnerable. I removed the backup-camera bezel and reinstalled the OEM bezel. I then ordered a new Pop & Lock device, and it fits perfectly now. I’ll also be relocating the rear-view camera to the license plate area. Original Review: The POP & Lock Manual Tailgate Lock is a solid, well-built product and I really like the design. It’s a simple, effective way to secure the tailgate. That said, I recently added a backup camera to my old 1999 Silverado, and the kit came with a bezel that has a raised hump for the lens. Unfortunately, this makes it impossible to install the lock as designed. If you don’t have a backup camera bezel, I’d definitely recommend this lock. But if you do, just be aware there may will be itment issues unless POP & Lock eventually offers a slimmer version.

I have a 20 year old GMC pickup and needed to be able to lock tail gate. Looked around local to locate a suitable unit none was found. Saw this unit on Amazon and tried it out . Works perfect and easy to install. Good product 👍

It’s a solid lock, really easy to install with the instructions. Works with the stock handle. I tried really hard to break it before I wanted to trust it. I couldn’t break it by force. Im either weak or this is a great product

The tailgate lock is something that has long been needed. Finally, some of the newer trucks come from the factory with this feature, but if you drive an older truck, it's nearly impossible to find something like this. Quick and easy to install, and provides some security for items in the back of your truck. Should help deter would be thieves, or at least slow them down. Fairly well built, but knocked off one star due to high price. But even at the high price, it's worth it if my generator stays in the truck.

Lock was easy to install, work smoothly. Would suggest to anyone installing this lock to spray the lock down with fluid film or other corrosion inhibitor as the tailgate will see a lot of spray from driving in wet or snowy weather.
