Product Description Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Third Season (DVD)Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander are back on the case as Rizzoli & Isles continues for a third explosive season. As the chart-busting second season came to a close, Jane shot Maura’s estranged father, crime boss Paddy Doyle (guest star John Doman), as he tried to defend Maura against an assailant — an incident which has driven a deep wedge between the two friends and colleagues. Jane and Maura will work hard to set aside their differences as they investigate a number of complex and troublesome crimes, including the murder of a female college student, a killer who has turned the transit system into his personal hunting ground and the brutal murder of two young homeless veterans. Brian Goodman joins the cast this season as a series regular, starring as Lieutenant Detective Sean Cavanaugh, whose knowledge of the hardscrabble back alleys of Boston and history as a detective make him the perfect choice to head the Homicide unit.]]> desertcart.com Talk about hitting the ground running: as this third season of TNT's Rizzoli & Isles (with 15 episodes, plus bonus material, on three discs) opens, Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) has just shot the father of her best friend, forensic pathologist Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), who had only recently discovered that said dad is a notorious mob boss suspected of multiple murders. The shooting itself took place at the end of the previous season, but the ripple effect is strong this time out, as the usual banter between the brilliant but somewhat clueless Maura (Rizzoli calls her "the dumbest genius I know") and the more roughhewn and street-wise Jane takes on a decidedly nasty, if still amusing, edge for the first couple of episodes (Maura: "Drive straight past the coniferous spruce." Jane: "Sure, maybe I'll pass the hemlock, too"). The repartee continues throughout the season, as the pair trade witty bons mots while they and the other cops are solving various murder cases, some of them gripping (human trafficking, a serial killer) and others laughably absurd (two brothers in a rock group kill their third bro, who's also a member, thinking it will boost the band's record sales; an ex-Army Ranger turned yoga guru garrotes a young environmentalist who was on to his sinister oil-fracking scheme). Looming large over all of these scenarios are Rizzoli and Isles' crazily tangled family dramas. Aside from her gangster father, Maura has a birth mother (a doctor played by Sharon Lawrence) who thinks she's dead and doesn't react well when informed otherwise. Then there's Jane's dad (a cameo by Chazz Palminteri), who wants estranged wife Angela (Lorraine Bracco in a recurring role) to grant him an annulment so he can marry a much younger woman--who just happens to have had an affair with Tommy (Colin Egglesfield), Jane's brother. Throw in the two leads' various romantic entanglements, and you've got a show that's as much supermarket tabloid as cop drama. So Rizzoli & Isles isn't as hard core as, say, Southland. That's cool; all it's trying to be is entertaining, and on that level, this show is a winner. --Sam Graham Review: Great show - OK I'll confess I've had a crush on Angie Harmon for years, so when I first saw a commercial three years ago for a cop show staring Angie, I was ready for episode one. As a huge NCIS fan I was devastated when "Kate" was killed off, so when I learned that Sasha Alexander (who played Kate) was also in this new show I was ecstatic. The rest of the cast is great too, but the two ladies playing the lead roles, are obviously the stars, and rightfully so. I've watched all three seasons now, and love the show. It's got a unique tone, that strikes a good balance of "cop show" and "chick flick," which makes it viewable by both men and women-------------wife loves watching the show also. There are some edge of the seat moments, and some interesting plot twists, but for the most part it's pretty tame by today's standards which is a refreshing change in a market that seems interested in pushing shock value. Obviously every episode has a crime to solve, but there's always lots of friendly banter between the two stars or the Rizzoli family which keeps things much lighter than most police dramas. I wish the producers and cast the best of luck, and hope the show stays strong for several more seasons. Review: One of the Best Show Ever! - Rizzoli & Isles is absolutely amazing. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander along with an awesome supporting cast, Lee Thompson Young, Lorraine Bracco, Bruce McGill, and Jordan Bridges, just make this show what it is. It is refreshing to see two strong women not cat-fighting or competing with one another over stupid things, but instead they use their strengths together and are just the best of friends. *spoiler for beginning of the season* And sure what friends don't fight, I mean under the circumstances (Maura's adopted mom being run over, Jane shooting her mob boss Father) things could have turned out a lot worse. And you could see that they hated fighting with each other. I could go on & on about this show. If you haven't started watching Rizzoli & Isles I highly recommend you do.

A tribute to great writing
It is very difficult to blend comedy and drama, especially within the limited confines of a television show. The writers who scripted this third season of "Rizzoli and Isles," however, managed to do just that. I make no secret of the fact that I prize good writing above all else when it comes to books, television programs, and movies. Perhaps that's because I spent nearly 50 years as a journalist and the last several since I retired writing novels and short stories. During that time I was exposed to both great writing and to awful writing and so I can claim to know a well crafted bit of dialogue when I see it or hear it. Given that experience, and added to the fact I am a voracious reader, it is my opinion, therefore, that even the greatest actors in the world cannot succeed without a good script and even wonderful literary characters must fail to capture the imagination of readers if the plot and narrative style are subpar. In "Rizzoli and Isles" episodes that almost never happens. Both Jane Rizzoli and Dr. Maura Isles are believable characters, for example, and are written as "real" people with flaws. Rizzoli, for example, is impatient, prone to snap judgments, and loyal. Isles is often conflicted about her emotions and a woman who, despite her accomplishments, is unsure of herself in social situations. Supporting characters, the members of Rizzoli's team and her family, are equally well fleshed out, and even the villains - especially serial killer Charles Hoyt - are well developed. I do not mean to suggest that this is not an excellent ensemble cast by any means. I especially, for example, enjoy Lorraine Bracco's portray of Rizzoli's beleaguered mother Angela. What I am saying, however, is that without excellent storytelling, they would not be able to deliver the strong performances they do. Five big stars.

Rizzoli & Isles Greatness
Seriously adore this show. The relationships between the characters, the stories, everything is so much better! With this season there is more depth, more nuance and more history to tell. At the start, the great friendship between Jane and Maura is tested due to the shooting of Paddy Dole. Like the real world, the characters do not forgive right away. Jane and Maura have to work through their feelings all while navigating crimes. Great season, even more laughter. Go ahead and buy this, cause I have it on repeat and still have not grown tired of it!

Watched Three Seasons Waiting for Season Four
I love shows like NCIS, Criminal Minds, Castle - you get the picture. Well, we do not have cable or Dish so I had not seen this until I caught a couple of the first shows at my daughter's house. I immediately got caught up in them. They had to cut back so cable went. I no longer had access to ever seeing these shows again. Just love Angie Harmon in all that she has done. She and Sasha Alexander have great chemistry together. Entire cast works wonderfully together. You have the murders but there is light humor and street tough attitude. I find this cast of characters addictive. Found the videos and had to order them. Hard to just watch one show and turn it off. I am not one to watch the same show more than once but I really can watch these several times even though I know the ending. Well worth the money.

Quirky female cop buddy show
This 3rd season is the best so far. The actors are by now well practiced in their roles, but interesting little bits of information still pop up at unexpected times. I am just a bit tired of all the stock shots of Boston that the directors/ producers keep using. Time for some new footage! The writing of the show is good, but it could be better--- only reasons I didn't go 5 star is that it isn't 5 star yet. There is room for improvement.

I really enjoy this show but we don't get it in Kamloops so have all three seasons on DVD now . I thought the best season was season two and the finale was great. Although I enjoyed season three I would have preferred that they deal with the stories left in limbo before the end of the season . Since I have read all of Tess Gerritsen'd books I was surprised when they went away from Agent Dean.

I do like shows that can mix drama with comedy and poignancy. it's a very fine line to find humour in some very disturbing cases. In this series, relationships are in jeopardy, family values challenged and as usual there's lots of danger for everyone concerned. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander are perfect in the roles - opposites that attract, as it were. Lorraine Bracco as the mum is great and she could be Angie Harmon's mum! A seriously good series and one of the better cop shows out there. The writers, mainly Janet Tamaro have taken Tess Gerritsen's characters and expanded them brilliantly.
