Have you ever wondered how wind turbines work and why they look like they do? Are you interested in adding wind power to your off-grid electric system, but have been put off by the high cost of equipment and installation? Well, now you can build and install your own wind turbine! Harnessing the wind can be a tricky business, but in this groundbreaking book the authors provide step-by-step, illustrated instructions for building a wind generator in a home workshop. Even if you don't plan on building your own turbine, this book is packed with valuable information for anyone considering wind energy. It covers the basic physics of how the energy in moving air is turned into electricity, and most importantly, will give you a realistic idea of what wind energy can do for you--and what it can't. Review: Windmill DIY book - I love the book and have bought two of them and given one to another family member. I think it is well written and describes step-by-step very clearly on building the wind turbine. Review: PERFECTION! - If you want a complete guide to building and understanding wind turbines look no further. The appropriate theory and application is all there. As well as excellent instruction, humor, and fun. If you buy this book you will not put it down. Its just too much fun to let go of! I have also purchased "wind Power for dummies", "Build your own Small wind power system", and "A wind turbine recipe book"(by Hugh Piggott). All are packed with good information, but if you could only buy one book Homebrew windpower would, with out question, be that book.

Good reference book, very close to the father of Wind Turbines, Hugh Piggots.
Interesting book, on line with Hugh Piggots. You can learn allot with book. I like these guys seeing they live off grid.

The Perfect Balance
Wind power isn't just a "stick a propeller on a surplus generator for free power" technology as it is portrayed elsewhere in the public domain. To the rescue, Dan B and Dan F have put together a very well balanced book on the subject of home brewed wind power that puts the reader in touch with the reality and provides the basis for a reasonable expectation from this resource. The mix of theory, craftsmanship and anecdotal humor is perfect. If you follow the book closely, you'll walk away with a well-built 10' diameter efficient wind generator. The design is an excellent follow-on to Hugh Piggot's work on homebrew wind power. It is my opinion that the 2 Dans (and the Colorado crew) have evolved Hugh's work to another practical level such that any North American handyman can produce his own source of reliable clean wind energy. Congratulation to the authors!

Best so far
I've looked at a number of wind power books. This is the only one I have found that discusses the set up of the inverter, controller, etc. The presentation on the construction of the wind unit is detailed, and included multiple sizing option. Highly recommend. But you will likely need more than one book if you are seriously interested in renewable energy. So keep looking. Try one on solar too, since you will already have the RE backbone in place from this project.

Great Great Book
I was very happy with this book. It contains all the information you would need to learn to build your own wind turbine generator and is put together in a very easy to read and understand format. The authors are entertaining and the information is accurate. There is a great chapter on sources and other materials for a person that wants to make their home more efficient or go off the grid.

Good supplemental power book
Good book for off-grid power. Mainly for small power supply...does not cover wind generators that are big enough to use for normal household power usage unless supplementing with other electric power.

Very detailled !
What I like about this book, is that you have some updated info available from them. Very well detailled and I believe that you do not need any other books to understand on how it works and how to built them. The author and the crew have done an excellent work on producing this book. Congradulation !

If you are going to build a horizontal axis wind turbine you need this book.
You need this as a companion for the Hugh Piggot manual. Very well written and adds a lot of essential practical detail. A sort of Zen and the art of small horizontal axis wind turbine building.
