Just what I needed
We had our bathroom remodeled and our tub surround was never tiled (thanks builder grade work). Once tile was added the handle was too just a tad short to make a secure connection so it was suggested to buy one of these to address the issue. Sure enough, it solve the problem and the new Forte handle can be installed. It's pretty expensive for what it is but I guess it beats the alternative of reworking the existing plumbing.

Itโs perfect to extend shower valve k-304
This was perfect for Kohler valve k-304 Rubicon. I called Kohler to ask them What was the piece that I needed to extend my shower valve which stayed behind the tile during the bathroom remodelation and they instructed I needed the piece above for the referenced valve. This is perfect if youโre looking to extend the shower valve. Note: I previously bought Kohler rubicon K-R76217-4G-CP and the extension corresponds to this product. My plumber had no problem installing and everything worked out. I suggest buying on amazon as Kohler sells it for a higher price including shipping. Itโs also difficult to find from local plumbing stores & big shop home improvement stores.

Does the job
I thought I had installed my Kohler shower valve according to specs but I guess I actually didn't properly account for the thickness of the thinset and tile. This extension kit did the trick. Nothing complicated about it.

Exactly what I needed
Kohler is a beautiful brand, but the trim pushed the handle too far away from the shower valve stem. It would not engage. This solved our problem perfectly. The instruction made no sense to me but I reconfigured the pieces and it worked. Pricey, but cheaper than hiring a plumber to solve the problem.

Saved Me $600
In my shower, the stem comes out and ends in a star that's about 1/3 inches wide. A square adapter (Part # 1018647) was on the end of the stem. The square adapter was supposed to fit into the handle (which has a square input). The problem was that the stem+adapter did not stick out far enough, which led to the handle gripping the square only partially. The handle would barely turn on the water, and if you turned the handle too hard, it would slip on the square and slowly strip. This piece solved the problem. I put this piece between the stem and the square adapter. That extended the total length about .5-1 inches, which was right around what I needed. Two plumbers looked at this problem and did not think of this solution. They each quoted me more than $600 to redo things behind the wall to cause the stem to stick out farther. This piece saved me from that. ------ A note on the KOHLER K-87466 Extension Stem: I initially bought the K-87466 to solve my problem. But that was not the right choice. The K-87466 extended the stem too far and, more importantly, changed the diameter of the stem. The male end of the K-87466 has a smaller diameter than the female end. So really, the K-87466 isn't just an extender; it's also an adapter. I just needed an extender, which is what this piece (#1073881) is.

Stem adapter works, screws wrong thread for K-728 transfer valve
Not quite the right deep rough-in for a K-728 transfer valve. The stem adapter is correct and fit perfectly. The screws are larger thread (I think #10), not the 8-32 to match the valve. The stem screw also is not the correct one for the stem on the K-728. Had to buy 3" 8-32 brass screws from Ace at $2 a piece, one of the original screws from either this or the K-306 valve was correct for the stem, so did not need to match up that one. Would be helpful if Kohler had a chart showing valves, trims, and compatible deep install trim kits.

Excellent Product for Remodels!
Exactly what I needed when replacing a shower valve in an old tile shower. While I replaced the valve according to the instructions, the wall lateral and tile was too thick to allow the handle to engage the valve stem and operate the mixing valve. Well worth the money!

Pricey.
This item did what I needed it to. However it is overpriced for what it is. I was stuck and this was the only option.
