From one of the greatest minds in contemporary mathematics, Professor E.T. Bell, comes a witty, accessible, and fascinating look at the beautiful craft and enthralling history of mathematics.Men of Mathematics provides a rich account of major mathematical milestones, from the geometry of the Greeks through Newton’s calculus, and on to the laws of probability, symbolic logic, and the fourth dimension. Bell breaks down this majestic history of ideas into a series of engrossing biographies of the great mathematicians who made progress possible—and who also led intriguing, complicated, and often surprisingly entertaining lives. Never pedantic or dense, Bell writes with clarity and simplicity to distill great mathematical concepts into their most understandable forms for the curious everyday reader. Anyone with an interest in math may learn from these rich lessons, an advanced degree or extensive research is never necessary. Know the Humans who worked the abstracts.
I bought this book because my interest in mathematics drove me to know more about mathematicians.Research in pure sciences isn't a passion every mortal shares. Its these few, very few men who did it and inspired a lot of others by showing the light. This book is a collection of short biographies of such great mathematicians who's works have shifted the human understanding to new levels. Lets know about these men who left the infinity of thoughts for us.Highly recommended for high school students and inspiring scientist.

What about the women of Mathematics?
This is a good documentation of some of the mathematicians who have helped revolutionize the math that we know today and yes it is baffling to know how much the human mind can understand and find out further. But it was not men alone who had done all this. Ever heard of Ada Lovelace? The British mathematician. Or Hypatia? She goes back all the way to ancient Egypt and is one of the oldest women astronomers and mathematician. The next generation of children will never come to see both genders as equal if they are never presented with examples or role models. Mathematics is universal. It is equal to women and men alike.

The amazing style captures and takes you back in the time ...
Unique non-fiction account of history of mathematics captured in the backdrop of mathematician's life as it was in the time they were living. The amazing style captures and takes you back in the time to tell a story great mathematicians with ease. The contents of this book should be a platform for schools where invariably the students are uneasy to learn mathematics.

A little dry, but some good information.
Bought this for my 15-year-old son, who is gifted in mathematics. He is currently doing year 11 maths (when he's in year 9), and I thought having a little more historical context might be interesting for him. It was a little dry to his tastes, but he has enjoyed reading about some of these mathematicians. It might be something he will enjoy more when he's a little older.

Excelente Libro
