This is a really nice Ariel doll with excellent overall quality. The details are well done, from the wavy red hair and aqua eyes to the little sea themed accessories. The outfit has lots of small decorative touches that make it feel more special than a basic doll. The doll itself feels sturdy and well made. The movable arms, legs, and head make it easy to pose, while the soft body gives it a different feel from an all vinyl doll. It comes nicely presented with the accessories, and it makes an excellent gift.

I have ordered and received a total of eight American Girl dolls from Amazon over the last three years, and two of those have arrived with box damage which could not have occurred during shipping. In other words, 25% of the boxes have been damaged, which means the odds aren’t great for doll collectors. That being said, I have never received a damaged doll from Amazon. So, I guess my advice would be, if you’re buying for a child, chances are good the toy will be in good shape, but if you’re buying for a collector, your chances are significantly lower for getting a perfect product. However, it is cheaper to buy the doll on Amazon, as the AG website does not offer free shipping until the consumer purchases $175.00 worth of merchandise, whereas non-Prime Amazon customers need only purchase $35.00 worth of goods to earn free shipping. Now, about the doll itself…. The Ariel doll really does come with Ronald McDonald red hair, love it or hate it. The hairnet goes under the hair clip, not over it, so a child will likely need help in removing the clip and hair net. The doll’s eyes are a shade of aqua which I think may be unique to this doll; I can’t think off hand of another AG doll with eyes this color. The design of the mermaid dress, which gives the illusion of a tail and fins, is clever, and the tail /skirt is of a silky fabric. The top, however, is made of that horrible, rough, paper-like faux satin used in very cheap gift wrap ribbons. For a doll which costs $145.00, Mattel really ought to give the customer higher quality doll clothes. Overall, it’s a cute doll, though. So, if you have a Disney fan or a mermaid aficionado in your life, this would be a good gift.
