Squirrel's New Year's Resolution

This is a classic must read story for the first day back to school after winter break. There are so many activities that can be incorporated with this read aloud.

This book is a must have for the start of a new year. Normally I try to get one from the library but I have to get one really early (November) so I can get my hands on one. I end up having the students watch someone read it online if I'm too late. This was a good deal and now I won't have to run and get one every year. I much rather read to them myself and have the book as a reference. There are wonderful online lessons that go along with this book and promots being helpful, kind and that everyone is unique.

We enjoyed the book. I read it to all the 2nd graders & a 5th grade class. A few learned what a resolution meant so a few learned something. Great book to read again next year. Maybe even in August when school begins. Loved it.

The story was a great read aloud For my kindergartners as we have been talking about ways to be kind since school started and the book allowed us too explore ways to be kind with each other in the New Year. It also explained and gave examples of resolutions that children could relate to with fun animal characters children love!

SQUIRREL'S NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION was nominated for the 2011 Rodda Book Award sponsored by the Church and Synagogue Library Association (CSLA), an international organization serving congregational libraries of all faiths. CSLA's Rodda Award is named for Dorothy Rodda Sargent, a lifetime member and one of the founders of the organization. This award recognizes a book which exhibits excellence in writing and has contributed significantly to congregational libraries through promotion of spiritual growth. Excellent simply written message for young children, and the inclusion of key words for vocabulary, plus mapping skills, sequencing of storyline, and finding the good characteristics in friends all totaled a wonderful, positive theme with good art illustration throughout!

A cute book to read first day back after Christmas break

Used this successfully with pre-school children (3 - 4 year olds) at beginning of the year to encourage them to think of their own resolutions which would be helpful to everyone.

Great Story. Perfect for reading in the New Year. Really liked the wording and illustrations. Educative as well as being enjoyable. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

A great book that discusses what a resolution is and gives some ideas to making a resolution.. my favourite read aloud for kids after New Years :)

Cute story featuring animal friends making New Years resolutions. Squirrel discovers she is a going to help someone every day, so her resolution is a good example of being a kind, thoughtful friend.
