Best Blessing I Ever Purchased - Works GREAT - Low Ratings Don't READ to Adjust Sensitivity
I bought this but almost did not buy it because of a FEW reviews that it went off easy. I am VERY glad I went ahead and bought it as well as took the TIME to read the SIMPLE manual and adjust the sensitivity. This is a serious subject and not just a blender we are buying. I have a golden retriever puppy that loves to fall in so I can "save" him and our home is built all around a lovely pool. If he falls in the pool it WILL go off inside the home as well as the unit will go off. You have to turn it upside down to quiet it. And go in the house and turn the other alarm off. But in general it won't go off if your pool motor turns on or a gentle breeze goes by-unless maybe it is right near a vent. Serious wind, it may, because it works by the lip being tilted and touching water. Gently place it in the pool because I plopped it in and did not know water touching the rim will keep it in alert mode. I called the company and the person who answered was VERY sweet and already willing to take a return on it---I felt bad and just said I could not get it to stop sounding. She asked if water was on the blue rim, and I said yes. She said dry that off and gently place it back in. She even insisted her company will mention that in the next manual. So, the manufacturer does everything to make this work for us. My retriever is 30 pounds so I practiced tossing a 30 pound object [basically a 3 gallon object] in the pool from any angle, and yes, it created enough of a wave to set it off. So, this is second best to complete supervision. It does have to be tied fairly center in the pool and on each side...I bought two bricks that match the pool pavers to do that. It looks fine and chances are if he falls he will touch the thin ties anyway. Which is what I hope happens if he ever falls in, to really set the alarm off. Pool help I tell to just leave it on the side when they are done cleaning and I will reset it. But I do not cringe anymore if he left my sight for a minute and he is no answering to his name. I can rule the pool out, which is splendid.

A must have for backyard pools
With small children in the house and a backyard pool, I knew we needed a pool alarm for safety. This seemed to be the highest rated and I liked that it would work with our frame pool also. It was easy to set up and test for sensitivity and works exactly as described. One thing we noticed however is if the pump is running and disturbing the surface of the water, or if there is much of a breeze blowing to cause rippling in the water, the alarm will go off a lot. We have found that during windy or inclement weather, we have to remove the alarm as it will continuously trigger false alarms. We also noticed that when our pool filter is freshly cleaned, the filter outlet causes enough rippling to set off the alarm which is kind of annoying. Aside from that, it's very well designed and reliable for going off if the water is disturbed at all. I think there's a bit of a learning curve and some tweaking that needs to be done with the sensitivity in order to get the best results but I love that it has the remote sensor for inside the house and that you are able to adjust the sensitivity. Everyone with a backyard pool, even a frame set or other soft sided pool, should have a pool alarm to protect those around the pool and any unexpected visitors. This is a great alarm, the price is reasonable, and it works as described. We are very happy with our purchase.

Craptacular....
If I could give this a lower rating I absolutely would. The state of California requires childcare providers to have something like this or similar. This product was crap. The settings are all over the place and dont match what the instructions state. It only qualifies for state reg at its most sinsative. Which is so sinsative, if you sneeze near the pool it will set it off. Not to mention we only had ours a couple months before we had to replace it with an even more expensive model BECAUSE IT GOT WATER LOGGED....go figure...floating device died due to self drowning! So lame! Spend the extra money for the better product. You end up having to anyways, so save yourself the time.

Failed early due to a leaking antena seal and replaced under warranty
Worked great for 2 months, no kids were allowed to play with it. Removed every time we used the pool, never allowed to be submerged either. It was stored in a dehumidified and heated basement for the winter. Pull it out in June, and it doesn’t work. Took the cover off, and the antenna wire inside the housing wasn't sealed. Water wicked its way inside and caused corrosion on the circuit board. I attempted to contact pool patrol multiple times via their website contact us form, which never returned any response. I ended up calling their phone number as a last resort, and they were amazingly helpful and sent me a replacement under warranty the next day. Hopefully, this new one will be properly sealed and will last a while.

Lifesaver within first week!
I purchased this product since moving into a new home with a backyard pool that has access by several doors from the house. . We are having family members over for the Christmas holidays which include several toddlers and wanted to add some protection. I began using the pool alarm as soon as it arrived, even though our tiny guests weren't here yet, just to get used to it and see if wind or other disturbances set it off accidentally. A few days later as I was getting ready to leave the house for the day, the alarm sounded. I looked out the window and could see wave action in the pool and thought "my goodness, it must be windy outside". I stepped out and was surprised to see our pug dog had fallen in the pool and was fading fast! Pugs are not good swimmers! I was able to grab his collar just as he was slipping under for what I'm sure would have been the last time! He would have been gone for sure if not for this new pool alarm! This PA-30 comes with an indoor alarm unit, as well as the one that floats in the pool, which is what I heard first; I'm not sure I would have heard just the outside alarm with all the doors closed, or if the TV was on. It's a fairly loud high-pitched squeal - kind of like a smoke detector alarm. Both alarms automatically shut off after 3 minutes, but that should be plenty of time to respond once it goes off. I am so impressed that it worked just as advertised. It comes with great easy-to-follow instructions - no assembly except for installing a 9 volt battery.

Good but not Great....loud sound. Maybe good for small pool
I did do a LOT of research on pool alarms before buying this one in particular. I just moved into a home with a large pool 42x18 and I have two young children (3 and 5). Pool safety was and is my biggest concern. My children can't swim yet and I wanted to have some kind of safety installed in case they snuck out the door while I wasn't watching. This pool alarm has an adjustment for sensitivity which I'm not sure is 100% accurate but I tried it anyways. There is an indoor alarm along with the actual blue pool unit they both make a high pitch sound which can be heard in my whole home (5000sqft ranch). It sometimes goes off unexpectedly which is annoying especially at night but I would rather this happen than not at all. Pros: 1. works well enough 2. Sound is very loud inside and outside 3. High pitch sound comes from both units Cons: 1. Very sensitive even though it's adjusted 2. Price I think Is a little much for this 3. traps a lot of pool debris on top of pool 4. sometimes needs a very BIG splash to make it go off, and sometimes it goes off with wind...seems pretty finicky

Great unit, fair price
I'll start with an initial review and follow it up with a longer term later. Packaging: Nice big box that protects it well. Easy to open and remove product. Not unnecessary layers of foam and plastic. Documentation: Excellent, covers everything that you need to know. Normally I'm a "I'll play with it and figure it out" type person, and this is by no means a complicated product, but it is important that it is installed and used properly so just read the booklet, lives could literally depend on it. Build quality: It appears well built. Nice thick foam gasket sealing the battery in held in place with two large screws. Upper and lower parts thread apart nicely, tolerances are right with no scraping or tightness. Installation: Simple and straight forward if you read the document first. Install the battery, plug in receiver, adjust the sensitivity and test a few times, find the right placement, set up string to tether it in place, all done. Tips: Get an alkaline 9v battery to have on hand for it. Install the tether anchors when sides are dry, which they won't be after testing so do it before or wait till it's dry. When doing the initial testing to set the sensitivity, turn off the receiver to avoid driving everyone nuts. Both the float and the receiver make sound, no need for them both to scream over and over while testing. Have a flip flop or something handy to simulate hands splashing. Throwing your toddler in repeatedly will anget the wife, despite you yelling "it's for science!" everytime. Plus the warranty doesn't cover the cost of therapy for the trust issues you create with said toddler. Good luck and be safe!

Peace of mind!
Sensitivity can be easily adjusted by turning top (blue) disc. I had read a lot about problems with the sensitivity but I have not run into that at all. I basically said it so that I could cause the alarm to go off by slapping the water but when the cats or dogs try to drink out of the pool or I move the water gently it will not go off. There are little lines on the black bass that allow you to see where you’re at as far as more or less sensitivity. I think I have mine with a little more sensitivity than the middle marker. I am very happy with this product and would highly recommend it that’s far ( I have only had it a couple weeks). Product will alarm in the house and outside of the house which is perfect! When pool alarm is set off, you have to go inside and turn off the inside alarm as well to reset. To reset the pool alarm/disk in water. You simply pick it up. Shake excess water off. Turn it upside down for five seconds. Wait for water to settle a little bit and gently set it back in the pool . The alarm is loud enough to get your attention, and if you have neighbors close by theirs as well haha! Also… the directions say not to use with a floating chlorine dispenser. I decided that I would leave the chlorine dispenser in and several days went by with no problem, but it was raining today and the chlorine dispenser got under the lip of the pool alarm and set it off.

Great product and great service from Pool Patrol.
This Pool alarm works great for when our grandkids visit. It give us an additional piece of mind incase one of them does accidentally fall into the pool, we know the alarm will sound outside and inside the house. Pool Patrol, has a great warranty program, I did have an issue with it this year, but I got in contact with their warranty department and they took care of it within 2 days. I highly recommend this product and this company.

In english: I have mixed feeling, the product seems to be a good product but with a major shortcoming... We have just acquired a "Pool Patrol PA-30" as an alarm system to put in our swimming pool because we have 3 young grandchildren. When I received the package I was very disappointed not to have the instruction manual in French because you will agree that it is very important to understand how well to use the product. Even if I understand English well when I hear it, I find that technical explanations are easier when it's in your native language. Finding this gap too important, I decided to translate the manual into French because if you have to setup the alarm at each season, as you get older, you don't always remember the instructions...
