product performed better then expected!
Grotrax was very easy to use...but it is going to require you to work a little. Before you start read the directions on the back of the label (you are going to have to open the roll to get to these. Prepare your soil! soak it down overnight as directed. Lay your mats....I found they cut much easier with scissors then a blade..... Water well 2 or 3 times a day! You just can't lay the mats down and expect grass. Living in Central Texas on the rocky escarpment I could only get about an inch or so of loose soil but it seems to be enough. I spotted grass sprouting this morning lots of grass. it's been 5 days since I laid the mats. Now it is on me to keep it moist as directed. Highly recommend as a cheaper alternative to sod... if you can and are willing to wait a few weeks. I have now used this product 3 times. Two of the three have been highly successful. I have a very shaded front yard full of grass instead of mud! the third has been down only two days but I can't see why they won't grow also. I used them to cover some still bare edges and a few isolated bare spots. It has all been quick and easy. I have one more spot to fix near the driveway but have to correct a drainage problem first. Those who lack success, maybe it's a low spot that collects water drowning the seeds. I don't know but I have had no trouble. My neighbor bought some after looking at my yard and walking the dog the other day past his house I noticed he has grass growing in the places he patched with Grotrax. Pic 3 when I laid Grotrax pic 2 after 3 weeks pic 3 now after 8 weeks

Does not work as advertised
Don't waste your money on this. Did not adhere to the ground despite multiple waterings. Attempted to hold in place with landscaping pins and rocks, which did not work. The slightest of breezes caused the materials to fold over on itself, or worse, blow away. After nearly 2 weeks, zero germination.

It works and it is super easy!
I did this with my 7, 4, and 2 year old, We added 3 bags of top soil to the area. No tilling just spreading the soil evenly. Our soil is hard clay so I didn't want to risk it (I live in Los Angeles, CA). I just rolled out the mat. Covered the edges with soil. Watered it. I watered 3 times a day the first 2 weeks. Twice two weeks after and once after that. I started on October 15th and that whole week was super cloudy in LA so I don't know if that delayed things but I didn't really see any germination until almost the second week. But after the there was growth everyday. I only gave it 4 stars because it's not a lush full lawn in 4 weeks as they advertised but it's pretty darn close to it and it was super easy. It's way cheaper than sod but pricier than seed. I've had bad experiences with seed. A lot of weeds grow along with it. This had 0 weeds. The few weeds that came out were what I already had. So definitely worth it. I will be buying more to do the rest. This was a test run and couldn't be happier. By the way my kids loved the project so include the little ones. They'll love seeing the growing process.

Inconsistent Quality
I purchased 2 100 foot rolls of this to fill in some bare spots in my lawn. These rolls were ordered at the same time and delivered together. The first roll I put down worked as described by the manufacturer. The second roll, not so much. If you look at the picture that accompanies this review you will see part of picture has lush, green grass growing and you cannot even see the fabric of the roll. This was from the first roll. The rest of the picture has sparse, somewhat straggly grass growing and you can still see most of the fabric it comes on. This was the second roll. They were planted on the same patch of bare earth, using the same care and attention and responded very differently. Maybe the second roll was last years production, maybe it was stored in a bad part of the warehouse, I don't know. If the second had been like the first, I would be recommending the heck out of this product but since it was not, I am not nearly as enthusiastic as I would wish to be.

Good product
Worked great as long as you water a few times a day

Definitely grows grass for a while maybe
Added picture after 2 weeks. Sporadic! We used both the 2ft roles & 1ft roles. The 2ft seems to work better than the 1ft also could be different batch runs. In the pics you can see the lighter & less sprouted 1ft role at one end and in a few spots where we had tears & wind blown pieces that stuck together. Don't do if there's thhe slightest breeze without staking they're very hard to reposition when even a little wet it falls apart, holes in role shown. We preped ground with BlackCow 50/50 fertilizer & also with fresh top soil prior to laying out Growtex. Some of it is great and on other areas it looks anemic so only 3 stars currently. Still have another 2ft & 1.5 1ft roles to play with so gonna do a test in another area against HydroGrass that you spray on as opposed to a role just for kicks. Stay tuned. 7weeks later we added 3 more pics of it dieing almost 1/2 of the area laid out. It either was stunted growth or it grew and died see brown spots in added pics. Also seems to be a delicate strain of grass when compared to my existing centipede type very thin blades.

Roll grass seeds
This stuff is a joke, spent about 1 and a half hours carefully rolling it out. Soaked it down 3 times a day. That was 2 weeks ago. Still no grass, and it looks like toilet papers that has been wet. Not sure if it will ever grow grass. Tore up on day two from the sprinkler. So I would not buy this.
