I am paranoid about my gear because, well, why wouldn't you be if you spent thousands of dollars on your loadout? So I bought these to attach my body/long lenses to a shoulder sling quick release strap. Pros: It seems very sturdy. Since it came with more than I needed, I tied an 8 lb. dumbbell to one and put it through a series of drop tests for my own peace of mind. It successfully held the weight every time. The carabiner that attaches to the strap or other safe point is made of metal, which I feel like is becoming increasingly more uncommon these days. It is a dependable screw-shut type of closure as opposed to others that sport spring clips, which have a higher failure rate after repeated use. Cons: The carabiner is a real double edged sword. While it is made of stronger materials and has a more reliable closure, it also means that it is louder and bulkier than lighter plastic versions. And since it isn't a spring clip, it takes longer to remove it from the strap... which kind of defeats the purpose of having a 'quick-release' strap. When in hand and not attached to a strap, the bulky carabiner clanks around as it swings freely from its anchor point. I appreciate the of strength this tether. However the strength comes at a price. I am going to have to find a way to rethink how I secure my gear so that this won't be as big of an annoyance in the future.

When you use shoulder straps or dual camera straps that connect to the camera's tripod socket, it's a smart idea to have a second connection to the camera. A friend asked me to be the second photographer at a wedding, which gave me the motivation to pick up a 4-pack of these camera safety tethers. They have a simple basic looking design with a rope loop on one side that attaches to the camera's lug and the other side that attaches to the strap has a metal connector with a threaded opening. These specific tethers have a few quirks, but worked decently well on the 8+ hour wedding photography job. While at the wedding The bolts became so tight I couldn't loosen them by hand. At the time they were completely new and from the morning to the evening of photographing the event the temperature change could have been part of it. For the price I paid I think they are a decent ready-made solution.

I was preparing my camera today for re-sale and took off one of these safety straps and thought that I should provide a review. This safety strap has been on my Canon R5 mirrorless camera for 2 years. I attached it to the optional battery pack. I just wanted to say that I have taken 10's of thousands of photos with this strap attached. It has held up beautifully with zero issues. I love the peace of mind that it provides me and I plan on attaching it to my new R5 Mark II when it arrives. I highly recommend this simple backup safety strap system.

I'd you are like me you want safety for your camera. I bought these as a primary and secondary safety loop to keep from dropping my camera. If you are like me you paid hard earned dollars for your equipment. If you are like me you want to take precautions to safeguard your property. I highly recommend spending these few dollars as insurance that if your camera strap breaks that this small item will stop the drop or give you the precious second to catch it before it hits the ground.

I'd like to give this product 5 stars because it did save my camera once when the camera somehow came off my harness. However, I'm only giving it 3 stars because the "lock" on the carabiner often unscrews to the open position by itself. I've been looking for a suitable alternative but most locking carabiners are bigger than what I want.

Overall, these straps are a decent solution, but the short length prevents a full five-star rating. If you have a compact setup or are confident the length will suffice, they are recommended. For larger or differently positioned cameras, consider measuring before purchasing. Four stars.
