Great igniter, unfortunately you need to do a little modification to make it work.

I had cannibalised an igniter from a water heater to use as an igniter for a propane or alcohol camp stove. This worked well, but I wanted a backup if it failed. The pictures in the advertisement, not so cleverly, turned the device so you cannot see the wire lead on the back. To make this device into an igniter requires the modification that I made to mine. This uses a piece of copper cut from a water pipe and fasioned into a ring around the tip of the igniter so that an edge extends out to the side of the center electrode. A piece of wire is soldered to the wire lead and to the ring, connecting both together. Surprisingly, I can put my finger at the gap and fire the igniter and not feel a shock. For that matter I can hold an unmodified igniter by the steel nut in one hand with my finger extended next to the center electrode and fire the igniter and a spark will jump from my fingertip to the center electrode without hurting myself. I do not recommend this if you are wearing an implanted defibrillator. This device, so modified, works as well as an Optimus Sparky which I also bought at the same time. The Sparky is more elegant. The marketer should be more helpfully honest. Others have stated it does not work. Without modification it will not throw a spark, except on a specific installation where you may not even be able to see the spark.

Better than the original and an exact fit. Don't hesitate to purchase these ignitors.

Like another reviewer had posted, the pictures of this item have deceptively hidden the critical side of this igniter. The grounding side is a hair thin wire that is recessed into the back side of the igniter. If you are using this for something other than a specific grill, you’ll need to do some soldering, which is troublesome since that hair thin wire is recessed into the plastic body, and as soon as a soldering iron comes close to it, the plastic melts and covers it before the solder starts to bond. I bought this for a launching device and it’s going to cause some headaches to try and utilize. It was actually difficult to photograph the wire angle because the grounding wire is so thin.
