We need GIANT pieces of the LUMINOUS colors.
This chalk is excellent. I use it to highlight and bring attention to parts of notes written on blackboards in a large lecture hall. Hagoromo makes pieces of their luminous chalk in the large "GIANT" size, but they are not available on amazon. One company that can get them to north america sells the boxes for sixty-seven dollars! I badly want to purchase some but that's a big premium and just impossible to justify. Now if they sold the giant pieces here, I'd probably buy multiple boxes, even at fifty per box. It would be well worth it. Like other hagoromo chalks, the experience is a silky, smooth writing feel across the board. The writing erases easily and completely. My boards would be almost perfectly clean if not for dust in the erasers from others use chalk with high clay content. Pieces do not break easily, I can use the same piece for months. And the chalk in general is very long lasting. A piece of the large chalk affords 9-11 hours of writing, where other large "sidewalk" chalk will be used up in 45 minutes. Just please sell GIANT LUMINIOUS pieces here...let us buy it here in North America!

Superb chalk
A few years ago, the already great Hagoromo chalk was improved to the Luminous. With a lot of pigment and extremely bright and smooth, it is worth the higher price. This is absolutely the best colored chalk in the world. It writes smoothly like butter, it is as visible as the white one but in the brightest colors and it erases without trace. As a very visual college prof in math and physics, it makes my day. A box (get the 6 = ALL colors luminous) will last a lifetime. The luminous colors are much brighter and more visible and enjoyable. I had our whole department switch to it, in every seminar room. The first visitor after that started by thanking us for the chalk. Don't forget the Hagoromo microfiber erasers. I have a few microfiber pads which I rinse, squeeze and keep wet in a freezer bag. That is the best way to use them, wet but not dripping. With two knitting pins I put two large erasers together into a very large one which erases a blackboard in a few seconds... For the white chalk, I prefer the Hagoromo Large White, available from time to time. A stick lasts 5 to 10 lectures..... The Hagoromo plastic box is not strong enough. I use some metal eyeglass boxes instead.

But these are not only super smooth writing
I have a green tinted chalkboard in my physics classroom-yes, some classrooms still have chalkboards. That means any green, blue, or purple chalk will not show up. But these are not only super smooth writing, they are also bright and vivid. Every color shows up on my chalkboard perfectly. I have a like/dislike of the coating. I like that it keeps the chalk dust down, I don't like how it writes as it wears the coating off (I have to scuff it off for easier writing).

Vibrant color
Beat chalk there is. I use it to make markings on roof shingles and it is very visible. All my coworkers ask where they can find them. A bit too expensive though but if they came down on the price I would buy a lot more frequently.

Who knew chalk could be great?
My husband uses hagoromo fulltouch color chalk to teach. He says it's much better than the standard supply. The colors are vibrant and they write well. The luminous color chalk shows up better on the green boards than the other non-luminous color hagoromo fulltouch chalk (which shows up better on black boards).

If you're going to lecture with chalk, why not use really good chalk?
I gave this chalk as a gift to two physics professors. Both fell in love! It's funny to think that something as simple as using chalk can be an experience, but it is. When chalk just works and works well, it takes away the frustration of dealing with cheap, thin sticks of chalk that constantly break. Cheap chalk is typically made of gypsum. This chalk is made of calcium carbonate, which has a creamier feel when writing. It also erases more cleanly. The coating on the body of the chalk keeps the hands from getting dusty. The sticks are about 50% thicker than the cheap stuff, which reduces breakage. The colors really pop, too. They're vibrant and easily seen across a big lecture hall. Pair these chalks with an imported Japanese DRF-J eraser. They're about a foot long and make the chore of erasing fast and neat.
