Slice 10514 Mini Box Cutter

Best box opener! The magnet keeps it on my fridge so I don't loose it, which I would do! It fits well in my hand and is comfortable to hold. The cutting edge doesn't cut skin but it will cut right thru tape, cardboard, plastic wrapping and the juice box inside so be careful. This is definitely worth the purchase. The only negative is that the lock doesn't work. I have to hold the blade slider in the out position, but that's not difficult at all so I don't mind.

Update: I have these for a few years now and they all still work great! Have given several as gifts and everybody loves them. A handy little tool for opening packages. Unlike a bigger box cutter or scissors. it's --unobtrusive so I can leave it on a table near the front door.; --has a short blade, so I don't have to worry about damaging a package's content; --has a blade that retracts automatically when I finish my cut and doesn't easily cut skin. I find it works well on packing tape. stiff plastic packaging and card stock. Denser or heavier cardboard requires two or more passes and it doesn't work as well on softer plastic packaging that doesn't stay taut once cut like that around rolls toilet paper. Good for average residential/office use. Since the blade doesn't lock in place, it might not be the best choice for someone who spends a lot of time opening packages.

A quick test on a plastic blister pack makes me question if this is actually as sharp as a metal blade, however it could also be due to its smaller size making it hard to wield with force. But I didn't knock it any stars for that, because where this excels is quick light cuts like slicing the tape off packages. The magnetic backing means I can keep it handy slapped on the fridge, the small blade is just right to preserve the contents, and the spring loaded retraction makes the whole process of cutting and then safely storing feel streamlined and safe. I still have a traditional metal box cutter in the drawer for any big jobs, but 99% of the time now I'm reaching for this.

I've been pretty pleased with these box cutters so far. They're small enough that they're out of the way, and easy enough to stash away in a drawer. My only gripe with this item is that I wish there were a way to lock the blade in place. Any time I was opening larger boxes, I wanted this feature on the cutter. It's not a deal breaker by any means as I'm still very happy with the cutter, but I would make this change to the item if I could.

I mean it, I cannot live without this little gadget. If you are like me, I get a lot of home deliveries now and I keep this right where I can find it to open every box. I even use it to break down the boxes. You can use it on those hard to open plastic shells. The ceramic blade is very sharp and it automatically goes back into the case when you release the thumb button. I gave one of these to a friend at Christmas in a little gift bag full of little gifts like handmade truffles and other handmade items. You know what she commented on, this box cutter. Not the handmade truffles the snow flake ornament or the silicone cooking mat but the box cutter. I was at her house this week for a tea party and right there on her desk is this box opener. I even bought a backup for me because I did misplace it once. So very handy and a great gift.

After misplacing our utility knife and being afraid that we might have left it somewhere our toddler could reach (don't worry, we eventually found it!) I was looking for something safer to keep around the kitchen for box-opening duty. Pros: -- Definitely safer - I won't say it's impossible to cut yourself but it seems very unlikely as you can run your finger along the blade and nothing happens. -- Clever design features - I like that it automatically retracts and has a magnet so it can be stored on the side of a fridge. I'm right-handed but I thought it was neat that you can reconfigure it for lefties (sidenote: the locking tab on the back isn't to lock the blade, it's for opening the case to replace or flip the blade). It's generally easy to use and fits comfortably in the hand. -- Easy to open packaging - It would have been ironic if you needed a box cutter to get this out of the packaging, but thankfully it just pops out. Cons: -- Not that great at cutting - Perhaps this should have been obvious, but a blade that can't cut you also can't cut most other things. It's decent at cutting packing tape on boxes or opening envelopes, but you can also do that with a house key. It can cut cardboard if you really try, but it would not be my first choice for breaking down boxes. -- Seems pricey for what it is - you are definitely paying a premium here for safety and design, as a $1 disposable utility knife will obviously cut better than this.

If, like me, you are a 20-something living in a large apartment building with a single trash chute for your floor 1/2 block away, this is your new best friend (especially if you may or may not have a shopping problem). I bought this magic thing to give my kitchen shears a break. I keep it by the door and open / break down boxes as soon as they come in. This thing is SHARP - I accidentally cut the tip of my fingernail clean off by just brushing it with this guy. It's also magnetic, and super lightweight - so great for throwing in my pocket to go break down boxes elsewhere. My only potential gripe is it is definitely made for righties - the slide button is on the left side - but I am a leftie and it's still incredibly useful. Going on a year with this product, and not only is it so great I had to review, but it also is just as sharp as day 1.

Love I Slice knives. Reduces lacerations during use. These have auto retraction to prevent cuts. Highly recommend these.

Great little tool for retail workers. Truly is a 'safety blade' but one that actually works. Almost impossible to accidentally cut yourself with, yet with pressure applied; it cuts as well if not better than the cheap steel alternatives. Blade lasts a good while if un-abused, then can be swapped round for another life cycle. Finding replacement blades is tricky though, for the price I'd just buy another cutter as it seems easier than sourcing good value blade packs. If you work anywhere than involves a lot of box/packaging opening, this is definitely worth it vs the £3 steel ones imo.

Ich war wirklich positiv überrascht, wie gut dieser kleine Cutter schneidet. Trotz der kompakten Größe geht er mühelos durch Karton, Folie und andere Verpackungen – und das deutlich sicherer als herkömmliche Cutter. Der automatische Klingenrückzug sorgt dafür, dass man ihn bedenkenlos in der Tasche oder Schublade aufbewahren kann. Dazu liegt er gut in der Hand und ist extrem praktisch für den Alltag, ob zu Hause oder im Büro. Für mich ein kleines Werkzeug mit großem Nutzen – klare Kaufempfehlung!
