A quick scan of any bookstore, library, or online bookseller will produce a multitude of books covering power systems. However, few, if any, are totally devoted to power distribution engineering, and none of them are true textbooks. Filling this vacuum in the power system engineering literature, Electric Power Distribution System Engineering broke new ground. Written in the classic, self-learning style of the original, Electric Power Distribution Engineering, Third Edition is updated and expanded with: Over 180 detailed numerical examples More than 170 end-of-chapter problems New MATLAB ยฎ applications The Third Edition also features new chapters on: Distributed generation Renewable energy (e.g., wind and solar energies) Modern energy storage systems Smart grids and their applications Designed specifically for junior- or senior-level electrical engineering courses, the book covers all aspects of distribution engineering from basic system planning and concepts through distribution system protection and reliability. Drawing on decades of experience to provide a text that is as attractive to students as it is useful to professors and practicing engineers, the author demonstrates how to design, analyze, and perform modern distribution system engineering. He takes special care to cover industry terms and symbols, providing a glossary and clearly defining each term when it is introduced. The discussion of distribution planning and design considerations goes beyond the usual analytical and qualitative analysis to emphasize the economical explication and overall impact of the distribution design considerations discussed. Review: Excellent book - The book contains the full theory necessary for the electrical distribution networks (e.g the simplified voltage drop calculations which are not included in many books about power systems) but also the real applications (e.g. real transformer connections and capacitors installations). I believe that one of the reasons that this book is great is that one of its references is a book written by real engineers back from 1965, when the engineers knew how to make real calculations by hand and not by software. If you solve the examples and the exercises , you really feel that you deal with 'actual distribution engineering'. I enjoy it. Review: I recommend it. - This book has all the information I am using in my job. I recommend it.

Great detailed reference, organization could use a little improvement
I thought this did quite a good job covering not just the distribution side, but some aspects of transmission and generation, with good supporting graphics. It includes some nice sections on SCADA/smart grid operations and future technologies as well. Overall one of the best electrical references I've ever had. However, I find a lot of the terms that are discussed in the book and rather important in general are missing from the index or glossary - which causes a lot of time to be spent searching where it is that they are covered. Also, having vocabulary lists at the beginning of some of the chapters (and some major sections) is nice, but the lists don't seem to be in any order - which can sometimes cause an annoyance when you're trying to recall a specific term mid-chapter.

Would be five stars if it wasn't for low quality paper
A great information rich book. Poor quality print.

Good quality and good content about transformers and distribution systems!!

Low level just like other books by the same author
Encyclopedic book. Low level just like other books by the same author. Avoids the more technical aspects. No load flow analysis. Author probably does not know much mathematics other than basic algebra.

A decent reference, but not well edited
Overall, this book is a decent reference for someone in the electric distribution area. It covers a wide variety of topics, ranging from system planning to SCADA to DER, and is generally written in clear, accessible language. It also includes some worked sample problems. My main reason for giving it only three stars is that it isn't very well edited. I've noticed several places where entire sentences are repeated in the same paragraph, or where words were missing or used incorrectly. In addition, a couple of the worked examples that I've tried had their units mixed up, e.g., wind speed given in mph, but converted to m/s using the conversion factor for ft/s. So, be careful if you're using this to study for the PE exam. On the other hand, it's great if you need to brush up on a topic that you haven't studied for a while and need something a bit more in-depth than what Wikipedia would provide.

Everything I needed
This turned out to be an Indian special edition but no problem, apparently they distribute electricity in a similar manner to ourselves. (Though from personal experience a tad less reliably)

Book is good but I noticed errors on pages #117
Book is good but I noticed errors on pages #117, #118 & #119. The figures don't correctly match the diagrams. I brought it to the attention of the CRC Press and they did get back to me stating that the errors would be corrected. I'm giving the poor review because I now have a technical book that I paid good money for that has technical errors in it and on multiple pages which impacts the material trying to be understood. I would love to be forwarded a "corrected" copy of the amended book but I feel that is probably difficult since they need to make corrections and then likely release a new edition. Not sure what kind of compensation would be warranted in a situation like this one. Hopefully there are no more errors as I haven't completed the book yet. This book is printed overseas, poor quality, soft cover with a band hiding the origins of the book and con-tact clear paper all over it, looks like a counterfeit copy. Other than that the content is what you would expect from such an author.
