Fantastic instrument for players on a budget
I can't say enough good things about this Dean Vendetta XM: great value, plays beautifully and easily, and it's got a nice understated design and finish ... nit-pickers and nay-sayers of course will mention component quality, but perhaps that forgets the limitations of Dean's manufacturing options at this price level I find nothing wrong with the basic foundation the guitar's built on, as its neck is comfortable, solid and true, and the body firmly joined to the neck ... right out of the (admittedly very basic) box it played very well, and to my very good sense of pitch, didn't need much tuning or intonation tweaking at all ... this Dean was purchased solely for chordal work - with and without a pick - to recreate material I had written on an acoustic steel-stringed Favilla in the 80s, so there's no soloing or string bending in my Dean's future the only out-of-box flaw was a small dent on the bottom edge near the output jack ... after month's playing, I find that the "satin" finish shows finger oil marks easily, but they are cleaned just as easily ... a few reviews here mention audible, and in some cases, objectionable hum from the pickups: I can report no such issues, connecting the guitar with a cable I made (w/Amphenol jacks + Gepco XB20 wire) to a Behringer 1002FX mixer, and the signal's quiet thru 'phones or amplified to my JBL stage monitors I highly recommend this instrument ... kudos also to Amazon's quick shipping

Dean Vendetta review
I received my Dean yesterday. After reading reviews and checking other guitars, I decided that this was the best deal for the money. At 42 years old, I decided I had the patience to actually sit down and try to learn to play. I ordered this and Rocksmith for the Ps3. Overall the guitar is nice. Out of the box it was tuned well and plays easily. The finish is a matte burgundy, not natural. There was a corner of the headstock broken off and in the bottom of the box, but it does not affect the way it plays and have glued it back on. There was nothing loose or missing and required no real adjustments to start playing. Paired with Rocksmith this has been a very good purchase. I gave it 4 stars because of the damage, but again, it's not a big deal. If you are just starting out and looking for an entry level guitar, this is the way to go. One month later... The guitar holds it's tuning well. I play it daily and have let my 9 year old pluck on it a good bit. I think the factory set string height is a touch high, but I will reset everything when I change strings. Over all I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Best guitar I've owned.
I was very skeptical about buying this guitar. I'm a huge believer in "you get what you pay for." I actually learned about this particular guitar from a neighbor who had bought it a few months ago off Amazon as a 'starter guitar.' I've been playing over 10 years, this thing is miles above any starter I've seen. This guitar is miles above any $100 guitar for sure. Beautiful stained finish. Phenominal price. Sounds great. Looks better. Plays super fast! I was using an Ibanez RG-3 series ($400 when I bought it) and since having it I've always really wished that I could get a faster guitar. Boom. Problem solved! Also, this guitar is super light. Like, unbelievably light. Cons: There was a bur on one of the frets that had a very undesirable feel when moving the strings over it. It came off on it's own within my first hour of playing. I figured I didn't care if it broke the string since I'll probably replace them soon anyway. The tone knob spins forever in one direction, but doesn't actually affect the tone past where it should be, and turning it the other way still works, so really it's not an issue. 10/10 Would buy again.

Best choice for my first electric guitar
Dean Vendetta XM Electric Guitar - Natural I don't usually write reviews, but I had to for this guitar, I've been playing acoustic for 2 years and I wanted to try electric, I chose this because it has a good price and good reviews. a lot of people complain about the color but I love it, In fact, I wanted it in black but this color was cheaper and not that far from black. The only thing that surprised me was the huge box it came in, then I realized that they sent two for some reason. One came in mint condition but one had a loose bridge pickup that was pushed in but I simply tightened it. I'm used to playing with heavy strums but I get fret buzz because of the action, you would have to adjust it for heavy players, but its perfect for light players Pros: cheap price Fret ends so smooth you can rub you eye ball on it. low action light weight great strings intonation on point sounds great Cons: had to tighten jack had to tighten bridge pickup

Dean Vendetta XM -- pretty nice for the price
With shipping, the cost came to about $130. Not too bad. And it took less than a week to get to my door step here in Hawaii! Major plus! When I unboxed it I was impressed at what a great looking guitar it was. Awesome neck, comparable to those on Kramers and Jacksons. The action was set up pretty decent. The finish on the body is very nice, although the wood grain does not pop like how it does in the picture. Pretty light weight. Felt good in my hands. I think I lucked out, because from reading other reviews, a few others have received their Vendettas with nicks, chips, some even with broken necks. But for me, right out of the box, this guitar was gorgeous. Here's the downside: when I plugged it in to my Boss MEv-25 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal with my distortion setting, there was a lot of pick up buzz. However, I think this is merely a ground problem; a pretty easy fix. The pick ups don't sound that great to me, but I may be spoiled from my Ibanez RGs. All in all, I'm quite happy with this purchase! I mainly bought this guitar as a back up to play while I work on my other guitars and to mess around with different tunings (all my other guitars have locking trems.) Well worth the price I paid. I'm stoked!

Great starter guitar if you like having to fix it up constantly.
Great for beginners. But don't play any shows if you get this. Recommended for practices only... the tuners fall out of tune constantly. The bridge is difficult to find a good action height with. And the pickups are basically useless. The pots and 1/4" input are also always finding a way to loosen up. Again great for practice. But stay off stage with it.

... learning how to play and boy am I extremely satisfied with my purchase
I got this guitar to start learning how to play and boy am I extremely satisfied with my purchase. The action seemed high to me when I got it, so I did have it "set-up" after purchase ($50 at guitar center). Otherwise, it sounds great In hindsight, since it was after the 12th fret, I could have just lowered the bridge (or got my friends dad to look at it) and probably accomplished the same thing, but I didn't know a single thing about guitar at the time. . My friends dad who has played guitar for over 20 years said that the intonation was great and he was surprised at how well it sounded for the price. Definitely playable when you get it, but probably worth it to get it setup at some point (diy or otherwise) and make it easier to play. The electronics in it are nothing special, but they do work well enough. You could always change them later if you wished. The tuners, like the electronics, are also nothing fancy but it does stay in tune very well for multiple sessions (at least for me as a beginner). I do like the color, but I agree with other reviewers that it is nowhere near a wood grain look like the amazon pictures. More of a matte, uniform brown color. Again, I like the color but is definitely a matter of taste. Also works well with Rocksmith if that is what your interested in.

Chipped...
A really good guitar, mine came with a nasty chip on the headstock though, it was wrapped good thogh , so I don't think it happened while shipping.

A rock-solid guitar.
As fellow reviewers have said, an excellent guitar for the price, and Dean are another to make, like Gibson and Fender, in America, guitars to suit all pockets. As with peer products, Dean guitars can cost you £thousands, but this model is a great way of trying out the brand at a fair price. Read a review somewhere online saying "if pushed, it would double up as a good weapon in a bar brawl, and could probably stop a .22 bullet!" Amusing, but this is a sturdy beast that may be a little unassuming in its looks, but does the job and becomes a close friend quickly.

Good deal. My son was very happy with it
Good deal. My son was very happy with it. Only concern is some of the components look a little flimsy but it sounds looks and plays great. For the money I would recommend it.

Awesome sound
This is the third guitar I have bought and I have to say it is much more than I expected. I paid next to nothing for this great guitar and the sound it gives off is better than my £600 fender so I think if you want a good guitar that screams like an animal then go for this. You won't be let down guaranteed.
