I belive you can't use a caustic drain cleaner on the system but can you use bleach with a mcalpine macvalve 2 self closing waste valve?

I would air on the side caution and go for zoflora instead of bleach as some bleach very strong and as there won't be enough pressure to open valve it could start degrading the tongue

Can The valve be used outdoors

I fitted my valve out side and it is working fine. Hope this is helpful, Warning don't use bleach to clean the pipes.

How much water kept in (it looks as if the inside should be horiz not vertical like the pic)?

They work as well horizontal as vertical, as long as you observe the correct direction of flow, as clearly marked. They retain nothing, the non return element is a very soft silicon elastomer duck bill. They do not like being “plunged” as the duck bill turns inside out and stays that way. They are very good for stopping smells from the sewers.
