Beginner's Digital SLR Crash Course: Complete guide to mastering digital photography basics, understanding exposure, and taking better pictures.

This is a must for newbie’s, and a great place to start. I finally understand the meaning and uses of all the things that scared me to death, when I first saw them. This guide will open your eyes, mind and imagination of what you are now capable of. I can go on for awhile longer but I’m to anxious to go try out my new knowledge on my DSLR. This is one of the easiest to understand and incorporate into my shooting I have come across. Thanks

A quality Kindle book to learn about photography and the nuances of using a DSLR camera. "Mastering the basics" is what this book is all about, so it's not going to be a book that every photographer will appreciate, but beginners and intermediate photographers hoping to gain more understanding and take better pictures, are likely to appreciate it. The chapters are short and laid out in a logical sequence, addressing specific terms and providing building blocks to great photographs. The chapters include: ' Camera Settings ' Elements of Exposure ' Histograms ' White Balance ' Camera Modes ' Composition Tips ' Photo Storage ' Big Kid Toys (Equipment) ' Final Thoughts I liked this book for the information that was presented in a clear way. Illustrations like the ones relating to aperture, really helped me (a visual learner) to understand the concept and how it works. Photos used were helpful too. I just wish there was a touch more content as I think the author could have expanded on concepts presented just a little more. This isn't a long read, and you can use it as a reference book to refer back to as you continue to learn. There are some suggestions regarding equipment, but overall the book is about understanding terms and how they relate to digital photography. I found it helpful and would recommend it to others.

I got my camera, I’ve been wanting for a while for Christmas and I could not remember anything that I had learned in photography class so I went looking for a book to help jog my memory and I found this book, he helped me to remember everything that I had learned in class but also made it easier for me to understand. I would recommend anybody to use this if they can’t remember certain things about their camera or new camera.

I did a lot of photography about 20+ years ago on 35mm cameras. Recently have wanted to get back into it and this did really help me remember the things I learned back then. Good quick read. Definitely worth the read!

DSLR's shouldn't be confused with 'Point & Shoot' cameras. This book does a good job of taking a neophyte to the next level. It is by no means intended to turn amateurs into Pros. What it does do is encourage the DSLR owner to experiment with the controls available to them and offers some excellent tips on camera setup and why a given setting is useful. For instance, I didn't know that setting the camera to store pictures in JPEG compressed form would not allow me to print anything larger than 4x6 photos. Worse, photo editing tools would have limited value. To reiterate, you won't be ready for professional photo shoots when you're done with the book. I believe the intent of the book is to encourage the DSLR owner to try something other than "AUTO EVERYTHING". It's a good primer, clearly and simply written.

I've been a point-and-shoot "photographer" for more years than I care to remember. I had a vague familiarity with terms such as aperture, f-stop, ISO, et al., but no real understanding of how they actually related to taking good photos. Until now. I approached this book as if I knew zilch, and quickly found out I knew less than zilch. The author broke things down into small, simple bites that I opened a new level of understanding for me. I read the book from beginning to end with my Canon EOS Rebel T3 in front of me, and I finished in about a half hour. No question, it's a book for beginners, but what a helpful--and easy--read it is. A couple of typos notwithstanding--even the biggest publishers don't sell error-free books--the style and clarity were perfect for me. I've practiced what I've learned, and have seen a great improvement in the quality of my photos. Yesterday I bought a couple of more advanced books. I recommend this book as a first step for anybody who's wanted to break free of the AUTO setting and let his/her creativity fly.

What I like most about this book is that it is dense in information. It is suitable for absolute beginners. It explains key concepts in an easy-to-understand, pragmatism-oriented manner. I learned a ton of things in a relatively short amount of time. But I wish there was more content. I was able to read the entire thing in about 2 hours. I feel like if I had spent that time reading free blog posts on the Web, I could have gotten the same quality and quantity of information. My expectation was higher because it's paid content. Also, I wished there were more visuals. I'm still glad I read it and I learned enough to be able to actually take photos using a DSLR. For that, I'll be forever grateful for this book. But I will have to read a more thorough beginner-level book. I'm going to be reading "Tony Northrup's DSLR Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography" next, which will go over the content of this book, and a ton more.

For someone like me who owned a film SLR years ago and forgot - or should I say never learned - how to use it, this is a very useful reminder of the basics. It's easy to read while puting the steps into practise at the same time if you have your camera at your side.

This was the ideal starter book for me. Although my Samsung camera is a bit different to the specific cameras mentioned in the book, I was able to find all the the settings once I knew what to look for. The amount of information was just right for a newbie, giving me a quick and easy to understand grasp of the first and most important things I need to understand. Once I have had a chance to put into practice the things I have learned here, I might consider a more advanced book, one that would probably intimidate me just now. Highly recommended for beginners.

This book is a great beginners book with no difficult jargon to try and understand. I have just read it and already feel much more confident in digital slr photography. I will re-read it again. I originally borrowed it on kindle unlimited, but I feel it is so useful as a reference book that I will probably purchase my own copy to keep. Thank you to the author for a very accessible 'proper' beginners that will set anyone up ready to understand and use their dslr cameras and hopefully take some decent photos. I thoroughly recommend this book.

Es un buen libro. Bastante corto y bien explicado, como su nombre lo indica, te pone en las bases para salir del modo auto de tu DSLR. Lo adquirí gratis. Ahora que veo que tiene un precio de $90 pesos me parece un poco elevado para lo que contiene. Pero para haberlo adquirido de manera gratuita me pareció un buen libro.

This book is simple and easy to understand. Works very well if you want to get a quick understanding of the basics of digital photography.
