This unit does the job when needed. You have to ensure that the end is clean when using. The key is you have to trust the detector. It will find the leaks and batteries last a long time.

HVAC service tech since 2011. This is the best sniffer I've used. So far I'm 3 for 3 locating leaks. Only thing I don't like is there's no mute button and sometimes the warm up seems to take a really long time. Would definitely recommend.

You get what you pay for. This sniffer works like you expect, no false positives for me at least, it's a very effective tool. Stay away from the 25 dollar el cheapos, I have one of those and it went off on the carpet in my vehicle, and I'm pretty sure the floor mats did NOT have a leak. Just save your pennies and buy one of these.

I selected Inficon's TEK-Mate 705-202-G1 as my first refrigerant leak detector in preparation to enter the HVAC/R field. It's the only "real" leak detector I own (the other being an extremely inexpensive no-name halogen type). I haven't used it more than a handful of times, so take this review accordingly. I've used it in residential, commercial (walk-in cooler) and automotive applications so far. It's very sensitive -- maybe even too sensitive for its own good. Even on the low setting, I had a hard time pinpointing what was a very small leak in the evaporator coil of the walk-in box. I like the fact that it's made in the USA and came with name brand alkaline batteries, so you can get started right away. The built in alarm is very loud. You might like that if you're working in extremely (and I mean extremely) noisy machine rooms. I thought it was too loud for every other situation, and the constant wailing of the alarm during the sensor's start up period really got on my nerves. If I didn't think I'd invalidate the warranty by doing so, I'd pop it open and put something over the beeper to quiet it down a little.

I suspect most who don't like the until don't really know how its to be used or the limitations. Its not a magic bullet and like every tool in my arsenal, requires a good understanding of the subject before a good result is possible except in the worst leaks. It worked as I suspected. If it were a magic bullet, I would have been happy, box arrives, levitated and points right at the nearest leak until I acknowledge it and then went looking for the next in one of MY items, stopping when I told it to as I am not giving away my magic beans, but.....

After 2 years and used only 3 times it will not pass warm up cycle. Changed sensor, still never stops alarming after start up. Called Inficon and was told that I have to go through whoever I purchased from to be able to send in for repair. Not good support at all.

I was trying to chase down a very slow AC leak in my car was certain it was the compressor shaft seal or evaporator. Within 5 minutes I found the leak coming from my condenser which was replaced previously but was a defective part. Very happy with this tool !

Does everything I expected of it.
