The Genesis Trilogy: And It Was Good, A Stone for a Pillow, Sold Into Egypt Review: Excellent and informative - Once I got into reading the book, I found the novelization of stories in the Bible very interesting. Review: A powerful read! - I thank God for Madeleine L'Engle. Her writing is without comparison. This is one of my go-to books when I just need to be reading. My First Testament knowledge is much enhanced because of this trilogy. Anyone who wants to better understand the early stories of relationship between human and creator would do well to give this a try.

Review of L'Engle's 'Genesis Trilogy'
To begin, this book wasn't what I was expecting, so my review may be a little more critical than others. The Genesis trilogy is a thoughtful collection of spiritual essays by Madeleine L'Engle. Each essay takes its inspiration from one aspect of a story from Genesis (the early essays from Creation, the later from Joseph in Egypt). I really enjoyed the sincerity of L'Engle's writing, although I didn't agree with much of what she had to say. These are highly autobiographical essays, and contain a lifetime of consideration and opinion. Even where I disagree with the author, I respect the thoroughgoing nature of her arguments. Were I to criticize Mrs. L'Engle, I would ask that she pay more attention to drawing parallels between her essays and Genesis. At times, she seemed to drift off wherever her memories beckoned.

This will be a yearly read for me.
L'Engle weaves her way through the first major stories in Genesis incorporating personal insight and meditative wisdom. I always come away from her works feeling that I have learned some"thing," some small nugget of a new "thing" about myself. If you are a big, L'Engle fan, you will find some of her material a little redundant. I think she was fond of certain stories from her journals because she uses them liberally in many of her works. If I could have given this 4.5 stars, I would have, but since I was forced to choose between 4 and 5, I cannot downgrade the amount of valuable writing contained in these works.

Thought-provoking!
I ordered this first through the library, but decided I had to have my own copy so I can underline and make notes in the margin. She frequently addresses thoughts/questions I've had over the years. Excellent writing!

Tender Trilogy
What a great read for those quiet hours when I want to just ponder on important realities! This goes at about the speed I want when I am meditating. I appreciate L'Engle's style and wisdom and wish I had come to her sooner.
