Cupping Therapy for Muscles and Joints: An Easy-to-Understand Guide for Relieving Pain, Reducing Inflammation and Healing Injury Review: DIY cupping - If you’ve been on the internet at all in the past year, you’ve probably seen Cupping Therapy videos. It’s oddly satisfying but also super weird to watch. What I love about this book is the explanation of just why cupping therapy works and it’s benefits. I loved learning about its history, and how modern thought influences historical practices. If you’re looking to learn about how cupping works and how to practice it yourself, then I would recommend this book. It gives the pros and cons of different types of cups, how to use them, and how to be safe while using them. It’s easy to understand, informational, and interesting to boot! Review: I absolutely LOve this book - After visiting China and various other asian and indonesian cultures this past year, my partner and I have had a significant interest in alternativ healings and mediines. In fact, I first got intrigued after I noticed my friend had some very bizarre looking things on her back. It turned out, it was merely cupping! I didn't even know it was something that people practiced locally. We pickd up this book hoping that it would give us more insight into what cupping actually is and how it can help us in our own journeys. As someone with natural anxiety and stress, i am always looking for new ways to handle it, without pumping drugs into my system. I absolutely LOve this book! It does a great job of explaining the what, who, how and why of cupping. I had no idea there were so many variants on how to do cupping, but just like anything there sure is. I love learning about the different ways to do it and why each way is most impactful for you or what you're trying to achieve. I was pleasently surprised to find visuals that accompanied many different parts of the book. Though, to be honest, I don't know if the visuals where helpful to keep going or a deterrent lol. I probably would have left ou t the bleeding cupping visual, but that's just me. This book does a great job of giving play by play on different types of cupping and what each type i good for. I don't think I will necessarily try it by myself, but you certainly cacn with all the information. I do feel like i have a major idea on what will work and what wouldn't work for me. I love knowing the why and how when it comes to alternative medicines and this book certainly does a great job of getting that information out there. Definitely recommend it.

Just what I wanted
Perfect introductory book for cupping. Easily digestible and informative. It has where and how to cup for each part of your body and describes what kind of pain each cupping movement will help.

Great primer
This book was my first introduction the cupping therapy. I found it to be immensely interesting. The objective of cupping therapy is to use suction to increase blood circulation to specific areas of the body. The suction is created using cups with holes and stoppers or lighting a match to remove air from inside the cup (due to the combustion reaction with oxygen) and then placing them on the body. There are many variations on cupping - involving placement, quantity, movement of cups while attached, puncturing the skin, etc. Cupping therapy is cited as a treatment for all sort of conditions, ranging from muscular/sports-related pain to abdominal discomforts. This book is a great primer in the therapy and would serve one well if one were looking to book a cupping therapy appointment for the first time and wanted to better understand what's available.

Ver informative
Very informative book! It talks on the different modalities involving cupping. Not just the basic cupping for pain relief. This book covers other forms of cupping therapies specifically for treating other issues like skin conditions, allergies, stuff like that. I was very impressed at how much is in this book with out it feeling like over load. Has pictures and is great with explaining where to place cups and how to move them. I highly recommend this book !

Not a textbook for Cupping. More Theory and Philosophy.
I ordered this hoping to get more useful applicable Infirmation. It contains history, theory, and warnings, but doesn't really teach you cupping techniques or give a detailed explanation of when, where and why to apply a cup. Was a little disappointed, was expecting more of a "Cupping Textbook" not a "Cupping Theory and Philosophy"

Unusual but effective treatment guide
I had NO idea what this was until I started experiencing chronic pain. I heard that athletes during the Rio games used it and decided to start researching it...with some skepticism. As it turns out, it comes from a similar Chinese tradition as acupuncture. The basic idea is that it increases blood flow to a given area to improve recovery. I should warn you that cupping does create bruises-- but it's far preferable to dealing with prolonged pain an injuries! This book is great because it's not written for someone with a medical degree. It starts from the ground up with explanation of the science, to materials you'll need, to different methods of cupping. I personally decided to have a friend or my boyfriend over the first time I tried it, but you could probably do most of the techniques yourself. I'm really glad such a detailed book on the topic exists.
