Car: The Definitive Visual History of the Automobile

Seriously, my little man is not quite two and loves everything about cars. I bought this and he and I enjoy looking at all of the great pictures and discussing what's cool and what's just interesting in the history of the automobile. The coverage is excellent and the pictures really nice. Like I said my little guy is not quite two and he has been a bit rough on the pages, so I bought another copy to put aside for when his old man is not around to read it with him. I really think it is that nice and worth putting one aside for the future, perhaps after the automobile is banned.

ANY visual guide book from DK Publishing is a great book that will not disappoint the reader/purchaser! Their visual books on ANY topic are top notch illustrated books. “CAR The Definitive, Visual History of the Automobile” is no exception to this rule and maybe one of DK Publishing's best printed visual book example! The overall presentation of this book is fantastic and quite in keeping with many of DK Publishing's visual books style! Many large and vivid color images throughout printed on nice semi-glossy/matte paper stock for easier reading! This is a rather large and thick book, covering every decade of the automobile’s evolution! An easy to read “bible” on the history of car design and manufacture from its early beginnings to about 2014! DK needs to update this book, again, at some “near” future date, but still an excellent book, nevertheless! A “must purchase/have” for any car enthusiast! This is a very well done DK visual book on something we use everyday of our lives! Highly Recommended!!

Great gift to my grandfather that is obsessed with cars and how they’ve been made over the years. The book contains lots of diagrams and detailed pictures that is sure to entertain him for a while!

It is the perfect collection of information about The Car. So much information packed in this lovely book. Illustrations keep you captivated and eager to read more. It must have taken months of research. Thanks to the author. I recommend it to young and old alike.

My husband and I fell in love with DK (especially the Smithsonian line) during a trip to the Smithsonian museums. The books are filled with an immense amount of information which is presented in a fascinating, readable way. Of course the author couldn't include absolutely every single detail about the subject at hand, but they still did a wonderful job. The photos are gorgeous and a perfect complement to the information being presented. The books themselves have sturdy binding and stout construction.

I got this as a gift for my father, a car enthusiast. He loved all of the pictures and descriptions of the cars-definitely brought back memories for him. It's also a very thick book, full of high quality pages and very detailed. I deducted one star because the first book showed up and the cover had a tear in it and a crease, so I returned it for another. The second book I received had a small crease but I felt it was "good enough." If the book would have shown up pristine, as expected, I would have given it 5 stars.

I bought this book for a friend who is into antique cars, so I didn't actually read the book, but I did browse the photos. And what photos there are! I love the early cars that are as much sculpture as engineering. Those cars were not just something to get you somewhere. They were something to be proud driving and riding in, and people took them out on the road to be seen. Cars today are so plentiful, car ads so insistant, that we take them for granted. But back in the early days of the automobile, there were only a few on the roads, and people took notice when one went by. This book has them all.

The book was described as "very good" condition when in fact it appeared brand new. It was a large coffee table type of book and the price was rather shocking... only a few dollars for a book that originally cost $40. It's going to be a 50th birthday gift for my developmentally disabled son who is autistic and is interested in any type of vehicle... but espcially cars. This book has so many beautiful color photographs and drawings.... he's going to love it.

Great book to devour or dip into, wonderful graphics. Very fast delivery for overseas and nicely packaged without unnecessary plastic. My 13yr old loved it.

A superb book for all car lovers- the beginner or the expert. The beginners would learn a lot; the expert would simply enjoy the sight of looking at the cars. Also good for any age reader- the kids or the mature. Practical information was delivered in simple language for kids and suitable a chilling flip on the coffee table. The book has a textured hard cover, and the content has brand stories, technical explanation on auto mechanics, display of different models of cars, etc. covering form the first automobile to the most recent (2013) models including the hybrid and electric cars (little explanation on these two new technologies though). All presented on good quality papers and defined printing. Prompt delivery with an unbeatable price. Highly recommended to anyone who has even just a slight interest in cars.
