READ THIS BEFORE BUYING!
I am very pleased with this product (hence the 5-star review), but you REALLY need to understand how they work before you buy the wrong combination of units for your application. I highly recommend visiting Insteon's forums and reading up a bit before you hit that buy button. This item is the 2444A2 - It is not indicated specifically in the description, but this is a "Single-Band" device. It only communicates via RF. It will only communicate with certain Insteon devices specifically labeled as Dual Band (like the 2477D switch and 2443 Access point). They take the RF signal provided by this RF switch and convert it to a power line signal that non-dual-band switches (like the 2476S and 2476D) can understand. The Dual-band switches like the 2477D CAN BE controlled directly by this RF unit.To make these products work, you MUST have a Dual Band unit installed in your house that translates RF signals from the transmitters and sends it to switches like 2476D and 2476S (among others) via the power line. I had to go on the forums to learn this. Also, another fun fact for laymen like myself. The 220V power coming into your house is split at your breaker panel into two halves. That's why all your standard outlets are 110V. Your dryer outlet receives power from both halves of the panel, which is why that's a 220V outlet. I mention this because the company that makes this and experienced installers recommend that you have at least one dual band unit on EACH HALF of your 220V system to improve reliability of remote signals. My point is, know what you're buying and do some research to properly map out your circuits and your need for dual band devices (2477 etc.), single band (2476D, 2476S, etc.), access points (2443, etc.) and RF switches (2444A2 (this one), 2444A4, etc.) before you buy to save yourself some confusion and frustration with this product.End result is great though!

Awesome Remote
If you have Insteon products this is a must have add-on. It can have 4 scenes programmed in it and it works awesome. The rechargeable part is nice but to be honest I haven't plugged it in since I bought it a couple months ago. The great part is you set all the lights how you want them and then just connect them to the button of your choice. I've discovered that if you add a light, add it to the brightness you want. IE: Turn the light on to where it looks good, maybe half brightness, and then add it to a scene. You can always double tap the button to have it go full bright.I will probably buy a couple more of these to put throughout the house.

Close to greatness
It's almost there. If you are doing ad-hoc automation this remote works fine, but if you're using a Hub you may be a little stuck. I needed to use the HouseLinc software (free, from SmartHome) to configure the remote, annoying and I can't control it from the app but it works. Aside from that:* The size is brilliant, it fits into a Decora-style wall plate.* The range is...interesting. It really depends on how many RF INSTEON devices you've got installed. I was able to use it from the far side of my apartment with only devices diametrically opposed.* You have the option of beeps and lights as feedback.* You can apparently convert this from a four-scene on/off remote to an 8-button remote via HouseLinc* There is a visor clip and desktop stand in addition to the wall mount option.* It's got a rechargeable battery with a standard micro-USB charger rather than a button battery. The only improvements I'd like to see:* Add Hub support.* Add a finger groove behind the top button, otherwise it's impossible to know if you've got it right side up.* Include a few stickers for labels.* The wall mount has no back, this isn't a problem for mounting directly to the wall but you may want to glue a Decora blank to it if mounting in an electrical box.

Love these little remotes...
These are pretty small devices, but absolutely awesome - if you have invested in Insteon switches and outlets, I don't see why you would not get this, I have all of my lights timed to turn on and off at predetermined times - but we often stay later, go to bed earlier, etc. With a push of the remote, we turn the lights on or off as we need. Great for when you got into bed and notice one of the lights is still on - click, done.Programming these is a piece of cake, the only trick is that it needs to be near an RF outlet when you program it - and when you use it of course.Probably my favorite Insteon device so far.
