I had grand ambitions when I strung up a mandolin with these beauties. Though I've strung many hundreds of guitars over the years, this was my first ever mandolin stringing. The phosphor bronze shimmers with the promise of rich, balanced tone, and for a brief moment, I felt like a true folk virtuoso. Then I remembered that playing the mandolin means tuning the mandolin, again something I'd never done... phone app download was needed. To their credit, the strings sound fantastic once settled. Warm, articulate, and responsive, I would imagine they will bring out every nuance of a decent players skill. They seem to be bright without being harsh, mellow without sounding dull, and I would imagine they will have just enough bite to cut through a mix. They demand a little patience as they stretch and find their place in the universe. But once they do, they reward you with a great tone.

Great strings

The price was more expensive than some but I went for quality. I re-strung an acoustic mandolin and all went well until the last string snapped on tuning. On the basis that I’d installed seven strings up to that point without problems, I can’t think I’d done anything to cause the break…I was still in the ‘tuning up’ phase (as opposed to tuning down). I still have four stars as they sound very crisp and a good improvement on the originals. As a footnote Amazon gave me a full credit and I bought a ‘two for the price of one’ set from another company. I just used one string for the time being and it has the same tone as from the previous string. Sounds good now on any case.

The strings on my cheap mandolin when I bought it were making my fingers sore so I fitted a set of light strings and now it is a lot easier on my fingers

Despite the extra cost If you value your fingertips they are a good buy. Much more pleasant if you are playing in a long session. Good mellow tone and sustain and also quieter. Will buy again

The choice of ball end strings is limited so these are excellent if you want long life and typical mandolin tone.

Play and sound great on my mandolin

These are quality strings which bring a good and well balanced sound to my mando. I play every day, as I’m in three ensembles, and they last very well. Maybe a tiny amount of improvement or life could be had by strings costing two or three times more, but in my experience, nothing beats these for price/performance/longevity! Recommended!

ça faisait un moment que je cherchait LE jeu de cordes sur lequel je me sente vraiment bien, qui ait à la fois un bon toucher et un bon son sec, et riche mais sans être trop brillant et je les ait enfin trouvée. les flat tops permettent de faire des slide sans s'arracher les doigts, elles ont une bonne présence et permettent de belles harmonies dans les ballade tout en gardant le coté sec et percussif qu'on attend d'une mandoline. a signaler que les cordes de La sont filé, comme celles de Sol et Ré, es-ce que ça améliore la durée de vie ou es-ce que ça a l'effet inverse ? réponse dans quelques semaines/mois. en tout cas je n’achèterais plus que ces cordes
