These work amazing. This is 5 minutes after lighting, flue is open all the way and door is shut. Firestarter will burn strongly until the bricks are fully caught up in flame. We use Bio bricks and the combo makes starting fires quite simple and mess free. The small footprint makes it easy to store the whole box close by. Repeat customer of these!

A winter must for our fireplace. This product makes starting a fire so easy, we use it daily and will continue to repurchase. Works well and they are easy to store because of their small size.

I'm 63 and have burned wood every winter my entire life. Probably have chopped truck loads of kindling. Not anymore! This has been a game changer for me, light one of these nuggets with large pieces of dry wood and the fire is on. They never fail, just amazing. I have been using these for years since we first got our wood stove insert. The installer recommended them and gave us a sample to try. Although I have tried a couple of other brands since then, these really are the best. The other dark brown ones that I have tried tend to get a low flame as they start to be consumed, which makes them less effective. These seem to maintain a high flame longer. In case you can't tell from the photos, I believe they are primarily wax and wood shavings. They are fairly solid and I do not crumble them. The half-dome shape would make breaking them a little bit awkward, so I just set one in the fireplace and light it. I put a little wood under them, set the nugget on top of that, stack more wood on top, and then light it. They typically burn for about 15 minutes, which is more than enough time to get some kindling well lit. Value is good, particularly since I never have to use more than one to get a fire started. Regarding the "Super Economy Box," they come loose in a cardboard box with a plastic bag lining it. I keep a supply in a clay container near the fireplace and I just refill that from the box as needed. In the past I have purchased smaller boxes from a brick & mortar store on clearance in the spring and kept them for two years, and they still worked fine. That said, for the big box, I will make sure to keep it closed tight. I have never been able to detect an odor, possibly because if any odor is coming out of the fireplace it is usually going to be the wood burning. I have never seen any kind of residue; it just all burns up. The only issue I have with them is that using matches or a traditional lighter, it does take several seconds to get them started. With a regular lighter, it always worked best to ignite it near the flat top (I put them in with the round bottom facing down, the flat edge on top). However, I recently found that using a small butane torch lights them in two or three seconds, and with the torch, it does not seem to matter where you point it.

These fire starters work perfectly. Stack the wood correctly, position the starter at the base, light the starter, adjust the draft, and your fire will be warming the house in short order. Fifty years of Idaho mountain winters with wood heat only and these fire starters are the best and simplest we have used.

In the winter we like to have the occasional fireplace burn and summer while camping. These little starters will be so handy! I found it easy to get lit. To try it, I lit one in the fireplace and it had a good flame for almost 20 minutes! I will toss a bunch in to a plastic bag and off to camping. My only gripe is that when I opened the shipping box from Amazon it had a collection of wood pieces from the lighter nuggets. UPDATE July 21, 2018 Just got back from camping and used these starters. They worked perfectly! One morning, the wood was damp on the outside from the rain overnight. It took the whole content of the nugget but the fire caught and soon was burning fine.

These are our favorite firestarters to date. They burn for a very long time, catching even hard to light wood on fire. In regards to be hard to start, we found that at first too, but it just takes some practice. Make sure you set them with their rounded side down, and hold the lighter on the rounded underside, not on the top flat part of the disc. Light in 10 seconds no issue and work great from there.

My son and I heat two houses with wood stoves. We have been using this product for 2 or 3 years now. Using Lightning Nuggets is the ONLY way to start fires daily! The old method of newspaper and kindling is too much work and almost impossible these days with newsprint that won't burn hardly at all. Must be the new paper and the inks they use. Finding these nuggets has made our fire lighting lives a pleasure instead of a chore!
