I was advised to give my bitch this after she had had her puppies to ensure she didn't suffer from calcium deficiency which can happen in toy breeds and can be life threatening. Pleased to say she had no problems and I administered this to her every day while she fed her puppies. Please note that calcium should NOT be given to pregnant bitches however as it can cause problems with labour and increase the likelihood of a deficiency problem following birth. It's only advised for bitches after they have given birth whilst they are feeding puppies.

We took this with us to our vets while our bitch was being checked after whelping. They examined the ingredients and said this IS NOT calcium - it's largely Vitamin D which can help the body to absorb calcium. Some people might already know this, but from everything we were told about it it seems there is a common misconception that this is some kind of pure calcium fix for dogs. We ended up not using it and just feeding our dog freshly prepared, high-calcium food with no problems. Not a bad product by any means, but perhaps not as necessary as some breeders make out.
