Not Really Free Ink--
Purchased this printer because of the promotional free ink for two years. It is a scam-- you need to subscribe in order to received the ink. Otherwise-- printer is easy to use. Easy set up. Pretty heavy (16lbs) if you're looking for a printer to sit on top of a desk this is not it. More for office use.

Refilled cartridges nowhere near original quality - very disappointed by that
One of the reasons I bought this printer was the appeal of being able to re-use ink cartridges. I loved the idea of not having to throw away all that plastic. What I didn't realize is that HP doesn't refill the cartridges. Instead, they make used cartridges available to third party companies, who refill and resell them. The quality of these refilled cartridges, at least from the two companies I tried, was dramatically worse than the original. Not knowing whether my printer was simply going bad, I bought one small HP color cartridge for comparison, and...there was no comparison. With an original (non-recycled) color cartridge, the print quality was back to normal. To illustrate, I've attached an image I compiled from two print quality tests: one with a recycled color cartridge and one with the new HP color cartridge I just purchased. The recycled cartridge generates streaks and uneven color, and the HP cartridge is perfect, to my eye at least.[Yes, when I saw the poor print quality with the third party cartridges, I did make sure they were well aligned, using HPs own alignment tool. There was no improvement.]This is disappointing, not only because the HP cartridges are dramatically more expensive, but also because the whole idea of being able to be more environmentally responsible by recycling cartridges is a crock if you need quality printing. To be fair, the quality of black-only text printing is pretty good with recycled cartridges. But I almost always use color, and thus will not be able to use recycled cartridges. In all other respects this is a high-quality printer and scanner, especially for the price, and especially during the first two years, when you get automatically supplied with HP ink.

Great product. Easy to install, anyone who has trouble with installing has trouble following simple instructions. This printer does require internet. The ink program is awesome, definitely suggest signing up for it. It is optional. Best for a cheap price.

Unreliable ink poor customer service
This printer has been a headache since I ordered it. Two years of instant ink included sounded like such a great deal, which is initially what made me choose this printer. I needed it for label and invoice printing for my business- almost immediately the cartridges weren’t working. I register on the Instantink website and went through a mountain of troubleshooting tips, that unfortunately did not work. It then recommended that I try the website live chat to fix my problems.... after much frustration and no success they sent me new ink, and that was supposed to fix the problem. Three days later I install the new ink, and within 4 labels- same problem arises. My printer can’t connect to hp online and they are unable to read my ink levels- so the printer will no longer work. At this point I am so frustrated because I have orders that are needing to be shipped out and I am unable to print labels- but I found a number to call for customer service. It was kind of difficult to even get a real person (they insist on using automated systems and online troubleshooting) but finally I did contact someone. I went through many troubleshooting steps again- and still no luck. The agent told me it was my ink cartridges, so they would ship new ones to me ASAP. I asked if this was a common thing with their ink, because I don’t want to be dealing with this every time I need to print items, nor do I have the time for all of this. He assured me this was not a common issue and to install the new ink when it arrived. Three days later it arrives and I install it. 4 labels later that day, and it is doing the same exact thing!!!! I Call customer support again- and wait on hold forever- again.. go through all the troubleshooting steps- again.. for it to be the ink cartridges. The agent suggested that it might be my printer or more faulty ink. I’m so frustrated that I wasn’t offered some sort of refund of the ‘2 years of free ink’ for the complete and total inconvenience of this printer and ink. I would have never spent 250$ on a printer that I can’t even use!

I am satisfied so far with the printer.
Printer was for home usage. Two year ink supply appears to be working at this time. I had a HP 6600 that the paper feed broke. The 5260 is not upto par with the 6600 but will do for my needs.

Read the instructions.
I love this printer. I have to signed up for the service because I don't need to use it a lot at this time. I will look into it later. Got it on sale. Great price, beautiful prints. No hassels.

Setup is a nightmare
I have set up more than 20 home and small office printers in the past 25 years. This was by far my worst experience. After plugging it in and pushing the power button, it tells you to go to 123.hp.com to download the installation software. Except that it would not allow me to download. So, I contacted hp tech support. The online chat took 94 minutes, during which the support person (who seemed competent and helpful) had to take remote control of my computer in order to complete the set up. A total of nearly 2.5 hours to set up a printer? Then the next day I tried to set up the "two years of free HP Instant Ink" that came with the printer. There was a card that came with the printer with a 16 digit code to enter to set up the instant ink. Except that each time I entered the code (correctly) I received an error message that the code was not valid. I called the HP instant ink tech support (again competent and helpful) and it took 25 minutes on the phone to get a new code to install the instant ink. I don't recall ever needing to use tech support to set up a printer before, but a total of over 3 hours to set this one up is ridiculous. After 3 days of use the printer seems to be working ok.
