Quality worth the price, a truly great set.
I have always wanted to try these but price kept me away.I wish I had got them sooner. They are truly amazing. They are strong ,vibrant and mix beautifully. They rewet easily and are a joy to work with. They are loaded with pigment and a very little go a long way.

Best paints, low price in January 2026
Come on, this is Daniel Smith! The best paints ever! I was just lucky to find the price go down in January 2026. For those new to DS, this 6 paint set is perfect for the basic “Split Primary” for mixing many other colors. To help you, search on YouTube for instructions on how to make your color wheel and how to create your mixing graph so you can keep a record of your secondary or tertiary colors. I recommend using half pans and drying them to help conserve use. You need very little paint to create very intense paint colors.

Stunning colors, a little goes a long way. My only regret? Not getting these sooner!
Wow! I started watercolor with cheaper supplies, both paper and paint. When these arrived, I had to give them a try. The colors are vibrant, rich, but still transparent. Absolutely stunning! Then I used them as I have my others, and the result was a disaster because I used far more paint than needed. This is a "me" problem, not the paint. I will have to play around with these to get a feel for them. I'm so glad I treated myself to these. The color just glides across the page, a little goes a long way, and they mix well, though admittedly I haven't spent more than an hour with them. These are fantastic paints, and though the tubes are tiny, I don't anticipate running out any time soon.

Excellent watercolor paint
When I took a watercolor class years ago the instructors preferred watercolor paint was winsor & newton. When I moved up from cotman I stuck with winsor & newton and started their professional watercolors. I love them. Many times I’ve been asked if I had tried Daniel Smith yet and sadly my answer was always no. I am very happy with my WN professional paints. I received a new travel palette that would just fit a split primary so I decided to finally try the Daniel Smith line. The first thing I noticed was the rich pigmentation. Color accuracy is good. I compared DS PV19 to my WN PV19 and I haven’t decided which I prefer yet they are the same pigment but the Daniel Smith seems richer. I wish these were all single pigment colors but I’m still very impressed with the paint. I know these are expensive but this is worth it.

Best quality watercolor
I don't know any artist that doesn't like Daniel Smith watercolor. The price might seem high if you are new to watercolor, but it is well worth the price and because of the high pigmentation it lasts a long time. It only takes a small amount. I use the tube paints after I squeeze them into a palette. I let them dry a couple of days before use. These paints do not require you to spray with water. As soon as you touch the paint pan with the wet brush you are ready to go. I paint a lot. The 15 ml tubes will last a long time. The 5 ml tubes last a long time and perfect for trying out a color. If you are using any of the phthalo colors, you will use less since these are very pigmented and you just need a touch when mixing with another color. Something like an Ultramarine blue and burnt sienna, these colors you would get a lot of use from and a 15 ml tube would be good. If you are just starting to use water color this set is so good because you won't get overwhelmed and you will learn color mixing skills. I would add to this set 2 Earth colors like burnt sienna and raw umber.

Great colors and plenty of pigment. This brand of paint has been recommended by numerous artist friends.

I had been wanting to try Daniel Smith watercolours for a long while as they are used by a lot of the artists that I follow on Instagram and YouTube. This set seemed to be the best value way to do that, plus this was the cheapest price that I could find for them. The box is tiny as are the tubes inside it, but the paint is very highly pigmented and so will go a long way compared to cheaper paints. You get two of each primary colour (one cold, one warm) in a little 5ml tube. Having a limited colour set meant having to relearn some colour theory, but it was possible to get most of the colours that I wanted. Neutrals and skin tones were hardly fairly easily achievabl, but I struggled to get anything convincing for black. The colours themselves are really nice and mix well. They are all transparent or semi transparent and the French ultramarine is granulating, which is a nice effect. Overall I am very pleased with this paint set. It is dear, but the quality of them is readily apparent. I haven't yet had time to compare them fully with my other pro quality watercolour paints, but I will update this review when I have done so. Recommended if you can afford them for such small paint tubes.
