Good Concept with Room for Improvement
UPDATED REVIEW After nearly 2 years of using this, I have to give credit where it's due. The container and seal have held up despite my skepticism. We use it quite a bit and like it. There's room for some minor improvement, but, still a 5 Star product. ORIGINAL REVIEW This item does what it's supposed to. However, the design could use some refinement. First of all, the seal is a silicone-based ring that requires force when attempting to pull the lid off. That force is required to reposition the seal to accommodate upward travel. The stress on the seal during this process and its long-term use will likely lead to seal fatigue. Therefore, the longevity of the seal is a consideration. A better approach may have been to use a replaceable O-ring (any seal is wear item) with a press-button air relief valve on the lid for use during the lid on/off process. This design requires a precisely round cylinder shape of the glass jar and that precision may present a challenge to glass the manufacturing process, I'm not sure. It just seems (at least on my unit) the force required for lid-travel (up & down) will ultimately lead to a bad outcome under the current configuration and some redesign should be considered. Other thoughts: In its current design, the elderly may have some difficulty with the level of effort required for lid removal and could lead to glass breakage if the jar were to slip during the process. Also, although the glass jar seems to be of adequate quality, the sticker label (in my case crooked) seems cheap; as does the lid itself. Although the packaging is impressive, the manufacturer could have at least taken a bit more pride in the workmanship and small details.

Great product
This is third one of these canisters we’ve purchased. They do a great job keeping coffee fresh and easy to scoop. Worth the price.

They're prone to breakage when new.
We've had one for 3 years and really like it. It does a great job of helping to keep the coffee fresh. However, the piston (for lack of a better word) on the new one was so hard to pull out I was afraid the handle would break as other reviewers have experienced. So I put the old piston in the new glass container and the new piston in the old one and both worked fine, that is, until I cleaned the old piston's seal. Then it became hard to withdraw from the new container too. I realized that the old piston seal and the old container had a thin film of coffee bean oil on them that allowed for easy removal of the piston without sacrificing the seal. I applied a little olive oil to make a very thin film--it doesn't take much--on the bore of the new container and that solved the problem.

Great Idea! I updated my earlier review to 5 stars.
I really like this item! It looks good. Some reviews say the glass breaks easily but the glass is pretty thick and someone would have to be doing something wrong to break it (or it had a weak spot when manufactured). That is all I have to say about that. I like it and it will do the job nicely. Amended review. It's big enough for your hand. I do wish it would hold an entire Costco bag of coffee but I really like this thing!!!

DANGER - the glass shattered when pulling on the plunger to open
BEWARE DANGER… This worked great until one day (after six months of use), I was pulling the plunger to open the canister and, without warning, the glass broke with the vacuum pulling pieces of glass inward towards my hand. It’s a miracle the I did not received serious cuts from this incident. I guess the repeated pressure changes on the glass through pushing and pulling the plunger weakened the glass to the point of failure. I am going to replace it with a metal type vacuum canister.

Keeps it Fresh
I wanted a coffee storage container that was easy to open and easy to close and was not messy to use. I just put the coffee in the container, and them I push down on the cover and it slides easily into the container. I can feel the air flowing out of the container, through the cover, when I push it down onto the coffee. The cover is easily removed and allows air back into the container as I pull it out. The container is wide enough to allow me to move my hand down into the bottom of it to get coffee out without having to tip the container over and then pour out the coffee to allow me to reach it. If you push down too hard on the cover, then the bottom of it will push into the coffee and coffee grounds will get pushed into the vents. I am happy with this unit!

Perfect for guacamole, and you can clean the inside of the lid
I bought the small sized jar to store guacamole. It works perfectly to keep the guac from turning brown. The lid is a tight fit, but I didn't find it to be a struggle to remove. Pull slowly. I was concerned that one reviewer said there was water inside the lid after washing. But a later review by John R. mentioned taking the lid apart. (Thank you, John!) And, yes, just a little twist and the silver part is removable so it can be more thoroughly cleaned and dried. Attached pictures show two indentations, and the slot they twist into and out of.
