Works, but the device isn't actually connected to the grounding strap at all!
I can confirm this device works perfectly between a PS5 and XBox Series X with 4K 60 Hz video. So far so good. No signal issues, no dropouts. (Note: it's advertised for 30 Hz video only, but 60 Hz works!) The problem is that the aluminum chassis is covered in black powder coating so it is NOT electrically conductive, and the ground strap that is screwed into the chassis is completely isolated from the PCB and the HDMI receptacles. If you check with a multimeter it's just an open circuit. The two HDMI receptacles and PCB share a common ground between them, which is fine, but the grounding strap isn't part of that circuit at all. That means in the case of a lightning strike or ESD discharge event there is no path to ground through the grounding strap, only the HDMI cable ground which defeats the purpose of this device. I think this was an oversight between engineering and marketing -- the PCB has exposed metal pads along the side that fit into the rails inside the chassis, grounding the chassis. Now if the chassis had no black powder coating then the whole thing, including the ground strap screw hole, would have been grounded. From a mechanical and electrical point of view it would have been fine. I assume marketing looked at the device and figured it would look cool if it was black instead of silver and inadvertently defeated the grounding scheme after having it powder coated. Oops! Tripp-Lite does make good products so I think this is an honest goof, but a severe one when we're talking about lightning strike protection. On my unit I soldered one end of the grounding strap to a ground point on the PCB to fix this, running it through the chassis grounding screw hole, but users shouldn't have to do this. It should work as advertised and it doesn't. If you feel comfortable tinkering with it, I think this is a good product. If you don't, get something else.

Mounting screws too small, the heads slip right through the mount opening
This review is about the hardware that comes with the HDMI protector. It's useless. The provided mounting screws are too small, so I can't even mount it. The heads of the screws are so small they go right through the opening on the mounting bracket that's part of the housing. So a 30 mile round trip to the hardware store to get the proper size screws will be first before I can even get this protector mounted in the correct location.
