Boss SY-1 Synthesizer Guitar Pedal

Firstly, what everybody says about the tracking is correct. I tried out guitar synths back in the 80s: so much latency they were pretty much unplayable; but Boss have evidently put some serious work into this gizmo and the tracking is spot on, great note separation too (although on some settings, big complex chords will just sound mushy. But you can't have everything). It doesn't take long to dial in some very cool sounds. I've had this for about a week, used it tonight in an online session with an electronic/experimental band, and got some nice compliments. I've barely scratched the surface - the fun part about this thing is you can just keep going with different settings. Pairing it with other pedals ... the variations are endless. Currently I have it in a chain: Digitech Freqout, Boss Waza Blues Driver, Synth, Boss DD-500 delay, and ... wow! Can't wait to see how it handles modulation pedals. Maybe at some point I'll start to think that this could be even better if it were fully programmable rather than relying on presets, but at the moment, and especially at this price point, it's a very cool piece of kit.

If you want a no-latency guitar box that sounds like lots of different synthesisers and organs, and can even do something rather like fretless bass, at a remarkable price this is exactly that. If it tempts you into sounding like jazz-fusion bands of the late eighties and nineties it's your own fault (well, it was mine anyway). A brilliant and affordable box. It's usefulness to you will depend on what you aspire to play.

I like the sounds very much, this effect is full of musical posibilities. I think, not every one is good for everybody, but many, many of them are. Amazing product.

Good but not quite what I had hoped for. Take great care with piezo input, some electro/acoustics are OK, some pure piezos are definitely not. Some effects are stunning, try a 12 string in full organ mode. But of the zillions of possibilities rather less are actually useful. I certainly couldn't find the sustain of a Springsteen/Knofler keyboard riff.

I was excited after reading SY-1 reviews online and I had high expectations .... and I have waited for months before it came onto the market. Having tried it with my American Stratocaster HH & 65w Peavey amp, I found many of the sounds disappointing, on the harsh side or "uneven" during playing. Some sounds are useful e.g. Bass, SEQ and a few carefully chosen direct/effect mixes involving Bell/Str but, of the 121 selections on offer, much has not found my favour. On the positive side, the tracking is excellent and pitch bend is followed faithfully. I plan to try it with a band in and in combination with effects in the future but that won't be for a couple of months.

Love this thing. I know others like the C4 have more flexibility, but I don’t want to spend time in an editor. This is plug and play. Would be nice if it had a preset bank, but as is it works great. Use a dual switch for more flexibility with the hold and sequencer sounds (for tap tempo).

It has a couple effects that I probably won’t use much, but it’s a great pedal on my board. I have my SY-1 feeding into the Boss SL-2 Slicer feeding into a Boss PS-6 Harmonist into a Boss DD-8 Digital Delay into the Boss RV-6 Reverb. The sound is magical with tons of room for creating your own unique sounds. Since the pedals I listed above are all modulation pedals, they will sound best through the effects loop on your amplifier (if it is so equipped).The SY-1 also pairs well with other instruments, my violin sounds great through it and so does my Les Paul using a violin bow to play it. Keyboards sound great, ukulele’s, mandolins and bass guitar are all instruments the SY-1 can substantially enhance.In summary, fun pedal, built to Boss’s standards that can enhance your church playing or send you to freakyville. Very versatile pedal, highly recommended.

Uno de los mejores pedales que Boss ha producido. Tiene 121 sonidos diferentes, ajustables al gusto del guitarrista o tecladista y si lo combinan con el RV-6 tendrán sonidos asombrosos. Su sonido es de calidad y se puede intercalar en la cadena de pedales, además puedes conectar un pedal de expresión para controlarlo con el pie. Y como siempre Amazon entregando a tiempo y bien. Muy recomendable para los amigos que les gusta tocar guitarra o teclado.

Sul suono non c'è nulla da dire, è semplicemente incredibile. Quello che invece bisogna capire prima di acquistarlo visto il prezzo, è il contesto dove impiegarlo. Un pedale che se usato con parsimonia puo fare la differenza. Come sempre consegna puntuale.
