Perfect for making your own strop
I hate the prebuilt strops I've had, only the tandy leather strop was good. it has a handle. i cant stand using a strop without a handle because I press on the blade, and i have to hold the strop in place. I ordered this, concerned it wouldn't have the sufficient loose grain on the inside. you need that if you're going to use compound because the loose pieces help hold it in. This piece is absolutely perfect for making a strop for my carving knives. I run through the leather fast, because I carve about 4 hours a day and hone my knived every 20 minutes or so to keep them sharp. I was concerned this wouldn't be thick enough, but it's right as advertised at about 2mm. Both sides are usable. I picked up a 2x4 at Lowes, cut it to 16 inches. Sanded all the sides, and carved the first 4 inches into a nice round handle. I used spray adhesive that I have here and it works, but i found that it's not the 'best' way to adhere the leather. So i ended up using Elmer's wood glue, and resting it on a flat board and put one on top, put two boxes of carving wood on top for weight and let it dry for a few hours. Works perfectly, and since it's shreaded on both sides, it holds the glue well too. i'm ordering at least 4 more of these so i have some stock. but this stuff is fantastic for a strop. also, as you probably know, if you really work the leather you can really soften this stuff up. i did so to wrap the handle. it's stiff as i wanted, but if you work the leather it softens nicely. perfect product, no more spending 20 bucks for a strop and building my own two sides WIDE one for 4 bucks for the leather and 2 bucks for an untreated stud at Lowes.

My dog loves this leather
When my miniature Shih Tzu was a puppy, he started chewing my husband's leather shoelaces. I put a stop to that by purchasing this sheet of pet-friendly leather in order to make him his own chew strips. Twelve years later and he still loves them. And he's so small, each chew lasts so long that I haven't bought more than five sheets in over a decade. Value for the money is out of this world. I'm thankful this product is always in stock. I call them "King Arthur's cigars." Small dog breeds often have problems with their teeth later in life, but Arthur's teeth are clean and strong, in part due to the fact that he "flosses" with these leather chews on a daily basis. Arthur relishes the texture of the leather, but it doesn't taste like chicken or food, and he's smart enough to know this toy isn't for swallowing. We're both very happy with this product.

Get what you paid for
I work with leather a lot. I needed a veg tanned medium weight piece to finish a project. I ordered this in a rush. Big mistake. This leather is not veg tanned. I opened it and was immediately hit with a chemical Odor. Veg tan doesn't have a chemical Odor. This also is not medium weight. 4 oz to 5 oz (1.6 -2 mm) is medium, this was 1-1.2mm 2-3 oz lightweight. Also the description states not top grain. Which means to me bottom of the split which is the part of the cow they use to make suede. Which accounts for the fuzzy feel. And the roughness is from the leather being possibly stored incorrectly and it is beginning to become dry and cracked. So lesson learned never to impulse buy because I need it fast.

Perfect
Exactly as advertised, a nice thin piece of rough leather. The people complaining did not read the description, this is not a smooth piece of tooling leather. It made 3 nice leather strops for me!

great product
ive ordered this product twice so far. It is just as advertised and works great. I make leather stops out of it and I am quite happy with the result. This is not very thick leather, so check the product dimensions before ordering, but it works great for me
