Exceptional quality & price, extremely comfortable and durable!!
I have been using this mouthguard since November 2018. The same guard! I have reshaped it at least 6 times mostly due to dental work changed the fit. I have used it on the bottom as well as the top. It is the most amazing guard I have ever had. I grind my teeth terribly and had use MANY different types from over the counter to the dentist made. I bite through every one eventually. The SOVA guard has been the exception. It shows wear but in no means is it worn out. I love the low profile fit. It doesn’t cause gums to recede, my mouth to look like a boxer with a mouthpiece, and I can talk without sounding strange. It’s so comfortable I sometimes forget I have it on. Other guards I have used get very nasty over time despite cleaning after every use. They even get moldy even if I have air dried or used hair dryer without heat. The SOVA has discolored but another nice feature is that the guard has holes which I think helps to dry. I would definitely say the downside to this guard is it is very challenging compared to others guards when it comes to fitting it. Most guards are already shaped whereas the SOVA is completely flat to start and that makes it challenging but not impossible to fit. You just have to be patient and relax it will mold if you take your time. I do caution to NOT use excessive “suction” when molding as the fit can become too tight and very uncomfortable. Always remember you can soften in hot water to improve the fit. I buy items and consider the customer reviews before purchasing. This is something I felt very strongly about reviewing as I have spent a lot of money over the years, sometimes over $100 for a guard made by my dentist. This by far exceeds anything I have ever used it is exceptional quality at an unbeatable price. I hope others will have the same experience!

Slim and discrete!
Fits well and easy to form around teeth. I formed it on my bottom teeth to replace the night guard I had from my dentist. It feels lightweight and less chunky than my previous night guard. It also has a translucency to it, so it's not stark white or too noticeable either. Instructions are easy to follow. It's mold-able up to 20 times, so don't worry about getting it perfect the first time. I got a solid fit my second try and it actually helped to get it somewhat formed the first time before dipping it back in the hot water for a better fit. The first fitting attempt is awkward to fit into the mouth because it feels too wide, but once you work it gently around your teeth and suck the air out you can feel it fitting better. Also helps to press the guard against your teeth using your finger tips, via pressing on the outside of your cheeks and lips while your mouth is closed and creating suction at the same time. Suck the air out gently for the first minute, then a little firmer as it sets up. Sets in 3 minutes. I microwaved a cup of water for 2 minutes and softened the guard until it appeared clear. Use a fork to CAREFULLY fish it out. Instructions say that it will mold together if it folds on itself, so avoid doing that!

Hard, brittle plastic like a Playschool toy
I was very disappointed by this expensive night guard. Even after re-molding it around a half dozen times, it still hurt my teeth and left me sore in the morning. Note that you are expected to re-mold this night guard many times before you can expect a good or even usable fit. And while it does get a very close fit to your teeth, the problem is that when it sets this plastic is very hard and brittle and it will be pushing against your teeth all night. No matter how well I molded it, my front teeth were sore every morning I used this guard. Imagine a hard plastic wall pushing against the front side of your front teeth all night while you sleep. Sometimes my teeth and gums hurt like they'd been hit by a basketball. Also, I question how well this product actually protects against damage from teeth clenching when it is a thin, hard piece of plastic that doesn't absorb impact. On the contrary, having hard plastic in your mouth caused impact for me. The worst experience I had with this night guard, which caused me to quit using it completely, was after I'd been using it for a few weeks with the last and "best" mold I had. The back interior corner of the guard was digging into the roof of my mouth and it caused me to wake up very early because of severe pain. I write this review to help other people like me who are trying to find a good night guard without paying astronomical prices for a dentist prescribed guard, and without buying and testing every non-prescription product on the market. I tried the Plackers disposable guards and found them to be comfortable, and they worked, but they would wear out quickly and I didn't want to keep paying $25 for 14-packs which would eventually be more expensive than any other product. There's a style similar to the Plackers that has 3 plastic plugs to bite down on- I bought a store brand version of those and they would not stay in place at all and were completely unusable. I thought this SOVA guard would be a lot more reliable but it definitely is not. I'm currently using the Dentek Professional Fit Maximum Protection Dental Guard and have found it to be the best option. It molds easily- unlike this SOVA guard which is tricky to mold and has to be done again and again- and it is just soft and thick enough that it gives your teeth a comfortable cushion while not being so big you can't fall asleep with it. Again, I'm just someone trying to help other people like myself out and I have no affiliation with any of these companies.

Recommended by my Dentist to get a Truly Custom NightGuard
I am a heavy grinder and clencher and chew through night guards like candy every 3-6 months. Even with insurance, the cost was no longer feasible. On my own, I tried a higher rated guard, and got horrible headaches, so back to the dentist I went. He explained the other was too soft, clenching, neck movement, etc but conceded it made no sense for me to keep spending $ at that rate and rec'd Sova with adjustment to the Sova mold. So I purchased, took it into his office, and he showed me how to cut it to fit just my upper front teeth (slight over-bite=guard on upper teeth). Perfection! I save over $360 each time and the most recent one made it exactly 6 months b/c i was able to reshape it twice, so the savings really is greater...no headaches, no money spent on repairing chipped teeth, durable guard with CUSTOM fit. Thank you, Dr. Snow!! Molding for custom fit tips/considerations: Keep in mind the intent of a guard is to prevent your back teeth (molars) from making contact, so a guard doesn't have to wrap fully around each tooth (front & back)...I have big horse teeth, so truly not I heat water in microwave (not recommended) for 1:38 minutes, drop the guard into the H20 and take the wee bowl into the bathroom immediately with a butterknife (I prefer using that bc I have more control to prevent overlap and sticking). Once the guard is clear, I use the butterknife to pull it out then wait a few seconds for my fingers to be able to touch it. Using those divots to line up the guard to my front teeth positioning it at the half point (horse teeth), I then use my fingers to mold the guard around all of my upper front teeth not worrying about whether or not it wraps around my back teeth. I simultaneously suck out air, use my fingers, and tongue until it mostly hardens. Then I pull out my handy dandy pair of scissors, and trim the guard to fit only my front 6 teeth. (Edit) I then dip it back into the warm water to soften the guard just a bit and reapply to my front upper teeth. Using my fingers, I customize the shortened mold more appropriately to my teeth. Works like a charm and guard objective met: back molars not grinding or clenching, front and bottom teeth protected, no headaches. You can use warm water or a silver nail file if you need to round out any edges. This process sounds tedious, but if you eat these like I do and need to save the $, it is well worth it. With time, tis a breeze; end to end this now takes me 5 minutes. I've had the same Sova for 9 mos now! I clean my guard with my toothbrush when i brush my teeth in the morning...tis super easy, takes a couple of passes and pops back in the case or I spritz with the Sova spray or soak in the Nat. Dentist mouthwash when I'm lazy.

First time in years waking up without a headache and jaw pain
edit: Its been a while, it definitely helped my jaw pain but it ended up being worse rather then better. while my jaw pain was fixed the fit was so tight it gave me such a bad headache I couldn't sleep. when I finally refitted it I stopped getting a headache but it now fit in a way extremely uncomfortable to my teeth. if I closed my mouth it felt uneven and would get pushed around and against my teeth in ways that felt like it may chip them. Ive had to move back to my previous mouth guard just so I can sleep again ( I couldn't sleep no matter how hard I tried) this could be for you, but its not for me. I grit my teeth really badly so I wear a mouth guard to bed, but the guard I had been using felt like I was putting a wedge into my mouth every night. I consistently was waking up with jaw pain and on a few occasions couldn't even go to sleep because of how it felt. Bought this hoping it would fix the problem, so far it has. I was extremely surprised to wake up and have less jaw pain then just my average day it was weird but nice. Ill update if it becomes an issue but for now I have no regrets buying this, and I'm glad I did. Though be prepared for the fitting to be a learning experience.

Very frustrating experience to fit, not comfortable to wear
I’ve put off writing this review for a good 6 months now, as I hate even looking at this mouth guard. I keep thinking I’ll give it another try in my mouth and thus push off my review, but then I realize that I don’t want to have anything to do with it and shove it back in the drawer. In short, I found the Sova Aero mouth guard to be an awful experience, both in getting it to fit and then also wearing it. First of all, I should point out that this is my second Sova Aero mouth guard. I first bought one about 18 months ago and had something of a stressful experience with that one too. It took around 7 or 8 fittings to finally get that one comfortable in my mouth. It was NOT fun. I kept having to trim off bits of plastic in the back since each new heating would stretch the material out and extend the back of the guard beyond my back molars. Eventually, I got it to the point where it was relatively comfortable in my mouth, and I filed down the sharp edges resulting from scissor cuts to round them off. I’ve been using this original mouth guard for about 18 months now, and around the 1-year mark, I noticed that the color was more of an off-white now, so I figured I should replace it. That brings me to my second Aero guard. I had an absolutely terrible time getting it to fit in my mouth. I followed the paper instructions; I followed the Sova YouTube video. It was still *very* difficult to mold to my teeth. To start with, after heating up the mold, it’s a pain to line up its flat, softened surface to the very center of your mouth and teeth. Then, you need to wrap it around your teeth with your fingers, but it’s very hard to press it onto the front of your teeth and get a good shape on the backside of your teeth. If you’re off-center just a bit front-to-back, you’ll have too much plastic material going up into your gum line. If you’re off-center left-to-right, you’ll have too much plastic on one side of your mouth and not the other. Yes, you don’t need to do the entire fitting all at once, but it’s not easy to do in sections without risking ruining a partial fit that you may have already accomplished. And when all is said and done, you end up with toughened plastic that has bumps resembling the imprints of your fingers – the little bits that hardened between your fingers may have little pointy bits that need to be filed down. I’ve probably tried at least 6 times now to form my second Aero guard to my teeth, and each time was awful. I shouted plenty of expletives out loud while doing so, garnering weird looks from my kids (tip: if you have young ones around, do this after they go to bed!). I’m at a point where I think I got it as good as it may get, but I still have two problems with it: 1) it rocks a bit in my mouth, where if I alternate pressing against the left and right sides with my lower teeth, I can feel the mouth guard shift a bit. It’s really annoying and tells me that I probably need to redo the entire fitting again. I absolutely dread the thought of doing that. 2) It’s noticeably thicker than my original Aero guard (see the photos I included here – older guard on the left, newer on the right). I don’t know if this is because Sova is manufacturing them differently now, or because I thinned out the material that much while fitting the first one. Whatever the case, I really don’t like the feel of my newer guard in my mouth. I’ve trimmed the back of it to be shorter than my original one, and yet it still feels like it’s triggering my gag reflex a bit. It may be because the newer one wraps around the back side of my teeth more than the original one (if you look closely, my old guard doesn’t have much plastic along the inside edge). So, I’m now left with a mouth guard that I don’t use and keep telling myself that I’ll try again at some point in the future. I would rate the experience and usefulness of my original Aero guard as 3 stars. However, I feel obligated to rate this newer one only a single star – what else do you do for a product that you loathe and don’t want to use? So, I’m averaging out the two and giving this product 2 stars. The above being said, plenty of people here like this mouth guard. If you don’t have a big issue with your gag reflect and/or are coming from many years of using other mouth guards, you may like this too. UPDATE, 11/16/2022: after a couple months of looking around for a different mouth guard, trying a Dentek one (it was worse and fit like a boxer's mouth guard) and ultimately failing to find a thinner one, I figured I might as well try a couple more rounds of boiling my second Sova mouth guard and re-fitting it, as it was a waste of money otherwise. It took me another 3 times to get it fit somewhat comfortably, which means I gave it somewhere around 9-10 tries altogether to get it right. Of those 3 additional attempts, it was too tight, then misaligned, and now it's more on the loose side, but I find I can finally tolerate it at night. I did have to trim off some more of the plastic while hot (scissors won't work while it's cold and hard) to remove some of the bits on the inner side, which helped my gag reflex. I then had to do some spot treatment in hot water, carefully heating up a corner here or a bit sticking out near the front there, to smooth out any rough edges. All in all, if you have the patience and a pretty minor gag reflex, you may do fine with this mouth guard.

This is the best night guard out there!
I'm not sure why this product doesn't have more reviews, especially compared to other night guards. My dentist recommended a couple of the more highly reviewed (as far as quantity) but I didn't like what I read in the negative reviews. So I did some more digging and found that this guard seemed better (not as bulky, able to remold multiple times if needed). I LOVE this guard. I was dreading using one of these, especially with reading so many poor reviews about mouth guards in general. I didn't know if I'd make it through one night, and I certainly didn't want to pay for a customized guard via dentist. It took about 5 tries the first day I attempted to mold it before I thought it was a good fit. It's very simple to mold, and I am terrible with this kind of thing. It fit well but my teeth and gums hurt a little the next morning. I remolded it again the next day, about 6 or 7 times until I got it right. I've been using it ever since then and it has been great. The most beneficial effect is finally - no more throbbing headaches in the middle of the night and lasting throughout the next day. I didn't even know that teeth grinding was causing the headaches until my dentist pointed it out. I would take Advil or Tylenol with little to no effect (which is unusual for me). I have not had one single headache since using the night guard. I used to think that grinding was yet another thing dentists told their patients they have in order to make more money. But when my dentist thoroughly explained what he observed, as well as recommended I try the less expensive route first, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. I wish I would've started using one years ago. It probably would've prevented the severe gum recession I have currently, as well as spared me from countless needless headaches. I definitely recommend this hidden gem of a mouth guard.
