Home Education: Annotated Edition

I don't think I realized how much I would appreciate Charlotte Mason's philosophy of education. This book is a gem. The annotated notes are extremely helpful for understanding the context of some of what Charlotte Mason referred to. I honestly can't imagine reading this book without it as there are many cultural/historical references that we simply wouldn't immediately grasp in 2022. The book is nice and thick. The quality is nice. I don't particularly love the cover design but that is just personal preference. I still give it 5 stars and highly recommend!

Notes are incredibly helpful and margins are wide enough for note taking. I appreciate the effort!

This version has made Charlotte Mason's principles accessible to me. I LOVE all the room to make notes of how her principles apply to my children.

I have a couple other printings of Home Education by different publishers. The formatting and indexing of the Annotated edition is very helpful and makes reading the work very approachable. I recommend this printing above all others. Lots of space for notes! I intend to purchase their Volume 6 in the same style and look forward to all the volumes being completed.

There are a few different annotated and unannotated versions of this wonderful book out there but I would say that the layout and the nature of the type of annotations in this version make it by far the best there is. The annotations give cultural and time era help with uncommon words to us in the 21st century. Annotations were strictly for helping the reader understand meaning. There are also annotations directing the reader to the cmplenary website to reference material that Charlotte Mason is quoting (poems, books, etc.). The CM Plenary has done a phenomenal job of locating and consolidating all of the materials referenced and for me it added extra wonder and excitement to continue my journey of understanding and incorporating these resources into our life! Overall I am so thrilled to have found a version of this book that allowed me to truly understand and be blessed by the wisdom of Charlotte Mason. Buy this version (which is at SUCH an economical price) if you are even thinking of reading volume one.

Despite the fact that I already own two copies of Home Education, as soon as this became available in print, I HAD to order a copy...those annotations make it possible for me to sit down with this book in hand and not have to have an electronic device nearby to look up all the references CM makes (and she makes A LOT!)...I can actually just sit and READ...it's absolutely lovely! The Plenary's version is the complete unabridged text but unlike other versions, this one has been completely annotated and referenced with explanatory notes and those notes are worth the price of this book!

I love this version of Home Education. Besides the annotations, there is ample space in the margins for note taking. I have had other versions, but this will be the one I use.

Even as a rookie to CM and homeschooling.... This is very easy to follow and flows so well. The annotations are clear and consice. This book will be a great guide for my wife and I. Thank you ! :)

I love the format of this book that lets me read Charlotte Mason's original words while making my own notes in the margins. The added bonus is the annotated commentary that explains some of the more obscure references or vocabulary making reading more fluid. I love that I don't have to go looking up words or people to get a better understanding. It is all there on the same page. Definitely buy this book if you are trying to get a better understanding of Charlotte Mason's teachings on home education!
