The Only Character Workbook You'll Ever Need: Your New Character Bible (Series Bibles for Writers)

This is a great workbook to guide through character development.

I bought the plot book at the same time I thought that if I flipped through it and it’s junk, I can always return it. I’ve only had them for 10 minutes and I’ve already turned around and ordered world building book. This is very detailed, very in-depth. I can’t believe how much information is in here and how well organized this is. I’ve had a lot of trouble getting my thoughts on paper in a coherent order. I have an idea, a general plot, characters that I flushed in my head and have struggled to put the information in order that will make writing a story easy. These are going to help immensely. I’ve read a lot of books, but while putting myself in the story, I sometimes lose sight of the structure that I become immersed. I can’t wait to get started.

As a teacher by day and writer by night, finding time to write—or even plan out my characters and stories—is a constant challenge. Writing has been a passion of mine since middle school, but as I’ve gotten older, balancing a full-time job, family obligations, and everything else life throws at me has made it harder to carve out the time I need to create. When I do manage to dive into world-building, developing fantasy elements, or crafting characters, it feels amazing—until life inevitably interrupts. Whether it’s work, errands, or other responsibilities, I often have to set everything aside and return to my ideas days later, trying to regain the flow I had before. That’s why I decided to give this a try, and so far, I’m thrilled with the results! Even after just testing out a few pages, I can see how well it works. Everything is so condensed and well-organized that when I sit back down, I’m able to quickly pick up right where I left off. It’s made it so much easier to dive back into my creative process without losing momentum. Success! If I could make one improvement, it would be this: having the option to use these pages in a 3-ring binder format. For me, that would be a game-changer. Plotlines shift, characters multiply, and having the ability to rearrange pages to group related ideas together would make this tool even more effective.

This just arrived and I opened it up. First page their was a post it note nicely written of other suggested websites and resources. So then I thought maybe I received a used book. But when you opened the book to see the details of it's contents, the note made sense. The note is meant to be helpful tool from the book author. Gives you lots and lots of pages to build your character, amazing tools to help you plot out what their personalities might be, minor character mapping, relationship trip note pages...and much more! I already really love this book! Love it so much I may buy a few more for writer friends of mine!

Bought this for my brother-in-law for Christmas who runs a DnD group and manages a lot of different characters. He absolutely loved this book and has already purchased others in the series to manage other aspects of his writing.

As a writer, teacher, and creative writing coach, I'm always looking around for the best ways to design stories without putting TOO much information into the story, boring the readers to tears. ;) Given that this book is about $16, I cannot - nor will I - loan it out, but I know I can use it for my lessons when I'm teaching how to write good stories with solidly-structured characters and whatnot. It is beautifully designed, the setup is amazing allowing for details, but not TOO many details. Even if I don't use the ENTIRE format, I can still use parts and pieces - the questions and such - for lessons when I'm teaching.

It's okay, probably a 6 out of 10 as far as work books go. But there's not enough room under each category and just a huge lined page behind the main pages for "extra ideas" but it'd be way more useful to give more than just a tiny text box that fits a couple words when trying to fill in character traits and background... Honestly you could probably find better tools on Google to help build characters. The layout was poorly designed and lacks depth in the prompts.

this book is the perfect tool to fine tune any character you can imagine for any story. Making that character real for any story you choose to incorporate them into. The book quality is out of this world. The cover is amazing and I really love how the paper feels. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for the perfect place to write down all the information in one place to create the best character ever. So easy to keep track of the progress of stories as well. The notes section is very helpful writing down story plots in the process of bring the story all together for the readers to enjoy once completed.

Bought for grandaughter and she loved it. I thought that it had every thing a young and budding writer would want.

Il libro offre una serie di pagine personalizzabili e approfondite per esplorare i vari aspetti della personalità, della storia, delle vulnerabilità e delle motivazioni dei propri personaggi. Include anche mappe delle relazioni, alberi genealogici, liste di riferimento e pagine per appunti. È organizzato in modo chiaro e pratico, permettendo di consultare facilmente i propri personaggi durante la scrittura. Per la mia esperienza dirò che non si tratta di un noioso manuale teorico, ma uno spazio guidato per creare personaggi eccezionali. Mi sento quindi di consigliare questo libro a tutti gli scrittori che vogliono migliorare le proprie abilità nella creazione dei personaggi e rendere le proprie storie più coinvolgenti e originali.

Ich bin ehrlich: Ich habe mir die Beschreibung (und den Titel) nicht richtig durchgelesen. Was ich erwartet habe, als ich dieses Buch gekauft habe, war ein ähnlich detailliertes und umfassendes Buch für Charactererstellung wie "Save the cat: writes in Novel" für Plotfragen. Wer, im Gegensatz zu mir, den Titel aber richtig liest, wird schnell verstehen, dass dieses Buch ein Workbook ist. Außer ein paar kurze Erklärungen am Anfang zum MBTI, Lovelanguages und Vulnerability-shields (letzteres war für mich neu und sehr hilfreich!) Besteht dieses Buch ausschließlich aus Worksheets. Das heißt: zu Hauptfiguren, Nebenfiguren und Statisten findet man Worksheets, die man ausfüllen kann. Dabei orientiert sich das Worksheet an den drei oben genannten Gebieten (und es finden sich noch weitere Worksheets über Gruppen, Stammbäume und grobe Listen für Figuren). Trotz dass ich mit etwas anderem gerechnet hatte, war ich positiv überrascht von dem Buch. Die Worksheets sind sehr ausführlich und können für viele tatsächlich eine sehr große Hilfe beim Figuren-Design sein. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Mir ist für die Anzahl an Worksheets, die bekanntlich beim Ausfüllen auch zur Neige geht, das Buch einfach zu teuer. Sinnvoller wäre für mich gewesen, eine PDF mit den Worksheets einzeln zu kaufen, so dass sie jedes Mal neu verwendet werden können. Oder aber, für die, die das Buch behalten wollen, kann man sich auch einfach Kopien davon erstellen. Aber selbst dann, wären die fünf gleichen Worksheets zum Protagonisten-Design einfach zu viel in diesem Buch. Ich habe mich entschieden, es zurückzuschicken. Dennoch, aufgrund der Detailreiche und Ausführlichkeit, gebe ich vier Sterne.

I got this for my teen when she wanted an easier reference book for keeping details of her characters all in one place. She said it saves her time from going back re-reading material to get a fact straight. She loves it and uses it daily for her writing. Highly recommend.

This workbook has so many different plotting sheets within it so you can select the ones that work best for you. I was in a bit of a hole, worried my novel wasn't set out well enough... this book helped me get out of that and i am back on a roll again!
