Starman Compendium One

Fun
It's a bulky book, but it contains about half of the entire Starman comic and associated titles. Robinson tried to create a mythology and long lasting stable of characters similar to Sandman, which was somewhat the style of the time. My only real complaint is that reading the issues back to back to back like this displays a certain amount of repetition of information. There is also a lot of pop culture references in the first issues and that is annoying, but it thins out as the series continues. It is a very 90s book, with a 90s look, but I still think its fun and is worth it for the price offered.

Legacy done right
I see why it's a renowned comic of the 90s DC era. It's a great take on legacy as Jack comes into his own as the current Starman and gains an appreciation for the history of Starman.

Massive Bundle of Joy
For those who missed the omnibuses, at least comes a new collected edition of the celebrated James Robinson Starman series from DC, and man, is it a treat! I had tried to follow the series when it was originally being printed in the monthlies, but still missed some of the regular issues as well as the tie-ins. This huge volume collects them all. Reproduction is very good; crisp, clear and great color. Well worth the price!

The best comic series of all time.
Every omnibus and compendium should be built like this. Every issue, crossover, element of this series is in order and presented in reading order. Can't wait for Volume II.

Most affordable way to collect a fantastic series in physical format.
If you're interested in this series, you probably already know that the writing and artwork is top notch, so I don't need to sell you on the content. So, regarding the format:Pros: There is no more affordable way to get this series in a physical format. The printing quality is quite good.Cons: A book this size is going to get beaten up. Any use, any reading, anything short of putting it on your shelf and never getting it out will put wear and tear on it. It's truly massive in size.If you are a collector that wants pristine copies of your comics, which is perfectly fine, this is not the product for you. Save up and track down the old hard copy collections that are expensive as heck, but are more durable. If you want a reading copy of a fantastic series, that won't break the bank, and you can accept that it's going to show wear and tear along the way, this is what you've been waiting for.I will be ordering the second volume as soon as it is available.

mainstream super hero comics bliss
For me, the greatest DC universe title of all time! Make sure to buy a copy so we get compendium two! I’d also love to see Peyer and Morales ‘hourman’ come out. It would make for a great companion book to ‘Starman.’

One of the greatest underlooked comics from the 90s/00s.
First off, the book is paperback, but it's HUGE. And sadly, the binding is god awful and fell apart very quickly. One that score, it's a one star. But...The book and the story and especially the first few arcs this story contains are incredible. This IS a cult classic comic, with very mature and very intelligent writing. The star of the book is Star Man, but the real star of the book is Opal City, and it's mysterious caretaker, the Shade (and if you buy this and vol 2, do yourself a favor and look for the Shade mini-series as well, a great companion for these). This is how to make a comic about people and characters first, super powers and fist fights second. It's very good and despite having great artists, the story shines through so much. Those of you who watched the CW show Stargirl, this is the SAME staff(which later went to her in the comics). It is not only worth your time, but rewards you for all the attention to details, choices made early come back to haunt everyone, and the city lives and breathes to make Gotham put to shame. Buy this, knowing the weak binding, and enjoy it.
