Excellent for Outdoor Wood Projects but Not Ideal for White Paint
I used this RustOleum Marine Spar Varnish on a wooden patio table, and the results were great. The varnish goes on smoothly and gives a rich, glossy finish that really enhances the natural wood grain. It made the surface look clean and polished, almost like something out of a professional woodshop. It held up well against sun, rain, and humidity. After weeks of summer weather, the finish still looks fresh with no cracking or fading. This varnish definitely gives long lasting protection and works especially well on natural or stained wood. One thing to note — I tested it on a white-painted surface, and it added a slight amber tint. So I would not recommend using it over white or very light colors if you want the color to stay pure. It is better suited for darker or natural wood tones. Overall, this is a reliable and high quality varnish for outdoor furniture or any wood that needs extra protection from the weather. I’ll definitely use it again for future woodworking projects.

Almost chickened out
I do not know about durability long term but very happy with my results. I did my deck railings and banister. This is fool proof. It is easy application and I did not dilute it. I was afraid of the dry time but it dried to touch in a few hours and felt cured by next day. It is tough finish seems to waterproof and lovely! It is a semi gloss and really put the life back in my wood. Preparation was the most work. I scrubbed with soap and water/rinsed and allowed to dry in high heat for a day. It has been very hot in Florida. Then lightly sanded and wiped with a damp cloth diaper (no lint). Applied my first coat in one direction with brush and allowed to dry 24 hours and will lightly sand for second coat. Honestly the first coat turned out so good I am wondering if I need the second but will do it for long term durability. I am so glad I bit the bullet with prep and didn't just spray T water seal again. I am very happy with my results. If it last two years I am sold.

RUSTOLEUM MARINE VARNISH ... WHO KNEW?
I love this spar varnish from Rustoleum. It is so easy to get a great finish with, that I believe it will be my goto varnish, pending outcome of this coming summer. I will still need to evaluate its durability yet. But, for ease of use and production of a professional finish, it wins, hands down. Other reviews claimed it won't keep in the can once opened. I recall that there are certain wood fillers that must be stored upside-down once opened for this very reason. So - I am storing my Rustoleum upside-down to see how it keeps. I will evaluate again once I know. I would buy again.

Appears to be very water resistant, but it is not a clear varnish
I was looking for a water protectant to apply to painted plywood that will be exposed to the weather. Manufacturers of other polyethylene products advised that their product would not work for this. This Rust-Oleum product was the only thing I could find where the manufacturer said it will work when applying over painted wood to protect it from water (rain). It was easy to brush on and dried within a day to apply subsequent coats. Be aware that although this product says it is clear, it has a light brown tint to it. It looks good on bare wood and on dark colored painted wood. But if you are using this on white or other light colored painted wood, be prepared that it will add a brownish tint to the color. As far as clean up, it is an oil based product so you will need paint thinner or mineral spirits to clean brushes, etc. I have just recently used this varnish on a couple of different projects so I don't yet know about its durability, but overall it appears to be a great product and I will be using it again for exterior wood protection.

Excellent and as good as more expensive products.
Exactly what you need for outdoor wood especially boats. Bought for the inside wooden frame on a canoe.

Looks beautiful and repels rain.
I bought this to use on outdoor art and live edge wood installations, choosing this brand based on reviews and my experience with Rust-Oleum. I'm not at all disappointed. The product is easy to apply, and it works great. You can see how the water beads up after a good rain, and I think it looks beautiful. It really brings out the wood grain. I didn't find the smell overwhelming, but I did apply it in an open garage. Yes it has an amber cast to it, but that doesn't bother me. I did pay attention to the humidity and didn't apply until it was below 50%, so had no issues with stickiness. I applied with gloves on and used disposable brushes for each of 4 coats, using a new one each time, because I hate cleanup. Overall I'm very pleased with this product.

Thick, very thick!
I am using this product to protect a wooden sign for my yard. It goes on much thicker than ordinary polyurethane. 5 months in the weather, and it is holding up well so far.

Il s'applique bien , le pinceau se nettois très bien avec du variole, diluant à peinture , bonne brillance, évidement sabler finement avec du papier 180 ou 220 entre chaque couche , reste à voir pour la résistance cette hiver

This is my go-to when refinishing tables for yachts in my area. It builds up beautifully and buffs so nicely you can see your face it in after 6-8 coats. It’s a long process to get this right, of course, but given the cost of refinishing, this is our “secret sauce” for getting a “wow” and ensuring it’ll last awhile.

Excellent product. Used on my top rails on the deck where drinks are usually placed. Coated twice. Leaves no stains and product is holding up awesome

I put it after the painting in the floor of my wood balcony. It has no colour, but make the wood shining after paint, and look nice. It think it should have the protection from the water. I will see and update later on.
