Great for draining oil from low clearance generator
I spent a much time looking for an oil drain container low enough to slide under my Honda generator. This one is relatively small with a low profile and works great for catching oil from small engines like my generator.

Just What the Doctor Ordered
Just like many Amazon buyers, I do a lot of research and read through many reviews before making a purchase. When it came time for me to buy an oil catch pan / container there was a surprisingly small selection. The main competitor to this brand had too many negative reviews calling into question build quality / leaks. Used car oil is obviously not something you want to take a chance spilling so I knew I had to find something better. This is when I stumbled upon the Matrix Concepts selection (smaller size than this). Those were highly rated but apparently too small for bigger jobs, holding 4-5 quarts max but luckily they had a brand new release item - the one I'm writing the review for (M28-115). I have to say, this thing perfectly fulfilled all the criteria I had set forth: Build Quality: Excellent. This thing is built with thick plastic and I felt confident sliding it around the pavement under my car. The top cap, drain valve, and air vent all close tightly and do not leak. Design: Relatively deep and wide (11" x 14") catch pan with the drain plug as high off the floor as possible when in upright position. Speaking of which, this thing is designed to stand on its side and is rather sturdy when doing so, it's currently standing up in my garage with about ~4 quarts in it and even trying to knock it over with light force it rocks back and forth a few times before stopping. The only thing that could be a negative is that if you take out the drain plug completely the drain bolt from your car could theoretically fall in there, (~.8-.9" opening with cap off) although it's very unlikely. That is only a concern if you take the drain cap all the way off which you don't have to do. Overall, I can't think of a single complaint about this thing, just be ready to wipe it off after you're done changing oil but you'll be doing that regardless. Easily 5 stars

Make sure you use the vent cap
I didn't do my homework when buying this, so my first oil change was a mess. I have Subaru that takes 5.1 quarts of oil, and on my first try I drained the oil right into this pan without opening the vent cap. OIL WAS EVERYWHERE, and I bet I captured less than 4 quarts (the rest went all over my clothes and in my hair). My second try with this pan - a Prius that takes around 4.3 quarts - went much more smoothly. I opened the cap slightly to vent, threw down some cardboard, and took my time. Not a drop spilled this time. I'm giving the unit a 5-star review because it is designed well, and keeps the oil IN when both caps are shut. The problems I had were user error, and now that I better understand how it works (and read the directions) it's going to work fine for me. Beware though that while this unit is designed to take at most 5 quarts of oil, right out of the box it looks like it could handle much more. 4.3 quarts barely fills the container halfway but you have to remember that the capacity is limited not by how much you can fit inside when it's upright (probably 7-8 quarts) but by how much can be drained with the vent cap open. The cap location is well designed and off-set so that it's as high off the ground during your oil change as can reasonably be expected, but with about 4.3 quarts drained it was coming awfully close to topping that vent. If you have a motor that takes more than 5 quarts this isn't the right tool for you. Otherwise it's a great product that I'd buy again in a minute.

Does the job.
Worked for my purposes of changing the oil on my Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager. It definitely fit underneath, but I had to loosen the bike's drain plugs first and then slide the pan underneath and remove the plugs by hand as the clearance was too tight to put a wrench on them under the bike with the drain container in place. I also had to use a secondary receptacle to put under the filter, but all in all I did not spill a drop. The Matrix Container worked good and held all the oil from the bike.

Good quality and works well for smaller jobs.
I have a few drain pans that are bigger than this one (one same style) so I wanted something smaller when changing oil in mowers/ small motors. The things I like about this one is that it is clear so you can see when it is getting full (the larger one I have is black and you can't see through it to see if it is getting full), I like when you slide this out from under something that the oil does not splash out the spout(common thing to happen with the ones with the spout at the edge with out a cap), The size of this is good for smaller jobs 4 1/2 quarts and under (I think it is a 5 quart capacity, but someone said you have to tilt it to get all 5 quarts into it), Also this one cleans up easier than my other one, for some reason the outside always seams oil coated. (I don't know if it is the plastic, but the oil comes off of the out side with ease.)

Ideal for the home user. Every garage should have one.

Rubbish quality. The 'plug' in the top is flimsy crap. Doesn't seal and leaks. Don't waste your money.

Hate dropping my oil drain plug into the pan everytime, so this was a nice solution. Nothing spilled and was ready to pack up and go once done. Can't ask for much more! Better than finding a jug to cut that's for sure. Do wish it was priced a bit more fairly though. All in all I'm happy with my purchase.

Perfect. Just what the Doctor...errrr Mechanic Ordered! Arrived quickly and is well made and will serve my purposes. Fairly durable and should last many years if well looked after. Ideal for the Small Car Oil Drain requiring a capacity of about 5 Quarts or less. A good way to keep the Oil contained until you transfer it back into the bottles for proper disposal. I recommend this product! Thanks, Amazon.

I needed a low-profile liquid collector to capture the used oil from my Honda mower. It has no oil drain plug, so you have to tip it over to 90 degrees, from an elevation (I use car ramps) to drain the oil from the mower. This product fits the bill perfectly. No spilled oil. It is made of plastic and it is well designed for its purpose. I thought the price was steep, but it does what I need it to do. I do not regret the purchase.
