ICF-CD555TV 7-Inch Under-Counter LCD TV/CD Clock Radio

We just love this under the counter tv/radio. We had no problem installing it. We put it under a corner cabinet and it fit fine. The picture is great and though the screen is small, it is just right for me when I am cooking. This is the main reason I wanted it. The radio and cds sound great to me.

Unfortunately, Sony has stopped making this product. The TV function on my first one wouldn't transfer from the CD to TV (locked up and was apparently not repairable???), and I finally found another one on the internet as is the TV that I use most. The radio and CD player still play fine on the first unit. This under-counter TV has an EXCELLENT picture. It is in my kitchen, and I use it daily. No other under-counter unit had good reviews when I bought the first or second Sony. This product needs to be put back on the production line!!!

Installation was not difficult with the right angle coax connector. We would use this unit for approx. 10 or 15 mins in the morning. We were very pleased with it's performance untill one day we pressed th ON button and nothing happened. No clock, no radio, no CD player, no TV, no power. We have had this thing for 8 months. $200.00 for 8 months of service. That doesn't rate very high in my book.

Item is fine

I purchased this unit from Amazon and it was shipped from Vanns. My experience with this product was outstanding and I was able to install this unit in a corner cabinet in the kitchen. Since I installed it in a corner, I experienced no installation problems as mentioned in other reviews. The instructions were very clear, the template provided for installation was perfect and allowed for easy installation. The TV quality is excellent and the sound produced using the radio and CD are good considering the size of the unit. The unit has a few sound options depending on the preference of the user. I set the sound to stereo with a higher bass setting. Overall, I would recommend this product depending on cabinet size and position. Not installing in a corner cabinet might provide some installation challenges considering the size of the unit.

We purchased this Sony after buying & returning an Audiovox under-the-counter tv/radio. We were very unhappy with the picture quality of the Audiovox, so we went to Best Buy and looked at their system which was a Phillips. The picture was much better than the Audiovox. Yet, we were still not satisfied. So we purchased the Sony system, which is better than both of those. We are very happy with both the picture quality and the sound quality of the Sony. It's perfect in our kitchen. The only issue is that you need to buy a right-angle wire connector in order to hook up the cables in the back -- no big deal, my husband got it at Radio Shack. We even hooked up a little dvd player to this system. Just a note, we don't leave the dvd player plugged in to the outlet because it causes some interference when you're not using it. I don't know if this is specific to my house outlets or if it's something with the frequencies of the tv. Anyway, we are extremely satisfied with this product!

I have read the other reviews and it seems people with problems with the picture are not reading the manual. The zoom modes distort the picture. This is not a flaw, but rather how it is supposed to work. You can always just leave it 4:3 and have the black bars if you dont want the distortion. We have it mounted in a corner and I agree with the other reviewers that it would probably be a bit tight depthwise if just mounting under a regular cabinet. The sound is very good for a TV. I have no complaints and am quite picky when it comes to such things. Remote is magnetic so it sticks to (some) of our stainless appliances. Overall, I'm very happy. Only thing I wish was that the power cable were removable - would make running cables inside the cabinet easier.

First, accept the product for what it is: a kitchen tv. Second, understand that most kitchen tv's do not offer multiple Screen Modes. Third, expect the best quality and customer service from a Sony product. Aside from minor flaws mentioned by other reviewers, at first blush this is a fine kitchen tv. Unfortunately, based on a sample of three (my original purchase via Amazon plus two replacements by Sony), I have concluded that there is a design problem with the 7 inch monitor. In short, the picture is distorted in the Wide Screen Mode. There appears to be adjacent vertical segments (top to bottom) that are wider than normal and thinner than normal. This is most evident on all-news channels that scroll information from right to left across the bottom of the picture. In the Normal, Full and Zoom Screen Modes, the scrolling is even and consistent. In the Wide Screen Mode, the scrolling is uneven and snakelike (weaving). The distortion is present with a picture either from the tv tuner or the video input. I have communicated with Sony via e-mail and telephone. They appear to be primarily willing to replace the tv, not to address the technical issue. I have decided to keep the tv because it does fit under the kitchen wall cabinet nicely (though snugly -- those right angle adaptors in the back are a must) and the picture is good in the other Screen Modes. Finally, I have purchased many Sony products in my 55+ years. My current Sony items include 23 inch and 42 inch flat panel, LCD HDTV's. I have gladly paid more for the Sony quality and reliability. In other words, I'm not a Sony basher. However, I am very disappointed that Sony would sell and promote a 7 inch widescreen tv with multiple Screen Modes when the Wide Screen Mode doesn't work! And the customer service (appeasement vice solution) was not what I expected.
