Will this drive write 100gb m-discs like these... verbatim m disc bdxl 100gb?

Hello, JC here: For the "Newbies" out there, the term BDXL stands for Blu-Ray Extra Large. These new disc "Look" like standard DVD/Blu-Rays, but hold a TREMENDOUS amount of data (from the standard DVD/Blu-Ray, that is). -- In fact, the BDXL's presently listed here (on Amazon), made by Verbatim, have a capacity of 100GB (Wow!, is right) - you can store (and Back-Up) a TON of data on these! (PS/BTW - the only drawback presently is that they are EXTREMELY expensive!! at present $20 bucks, PER disc!!) But overall the value of these new disks is NOT just in the large capacity, but in the new "tech" called M-DISC that allows you to stably & safety store your data for VERY LONG extended periods of time - with claims up to 100 YEARS (Wow! Is right). (But who is going to be around still to test and confirm this?!?, Right?!?) But, regarding this question (of BDXL's), I called the OWC tech support (the makers of this drive) today, and the Tech ASSURED me that this drive SHOULD burn to the Verbatim BDXL discs.... .....He said primarily because BDXL are no different than the standard BD-R Discs (except that the BDXL's just have an added "layer" 3 total), PLUS, this drive SHOULD burn to up to the higher 4 layers anyway. In summary, all should be able to burn to the new 100GB M-DISC platters - Enjoy!!

The stated size: "10 x 9.2 x 5 inches" can't be correct. what are the actual wxhxd, please?

It holds my LG mdisk (OpticalDrive) perfectly.Outside size 6.5 wide, 2.25 high, about 9.25 long.

Am I able to still use usb 2.0 with this drive???

Hi Harlan, You can definitely use USB 2.0 equipped computers with this optical drive! Thankfully USB is a backwards compatible technology, and there are very few exceptions to this rule. Will this drive write to dvd-r?

This is the honest and objective answer from Thomas Jefferson. This drive is simply the LG WH16NS40 drive fitted with an OWC Metal Box (https://www.amazon.com/OWC-Mercury-Optical-External-Enclosure/dp/B06XRCCV44/ref=sr_1_4?). The purpose of the metal box is so the internal drive doesn't look so ugly when it's located outside the desktop casing. It looks like you can simply buy the LG WH16NS40 separately on Amazon and then buy the enclosure separately and save yourself $30. Also, if you buy this, you will be getting a warranty from OWC and not LG. That'll make a difference if the drive stops working. You can't call LG to ask what's going on. OWC probably will have no idea for complicated problems.

Fantastic!

My Asus BluRay Writer didnt work for years as internal drive ( windows recognized, driver instaled no issue, but, could not burn even start burning anything). Now, in this external case/USB..working as new. Great metallic body, sturdy, easy install and i got one sata internal connection free for one more ssd. Like other posts, it is for shorter drives, please check yours, mine fitted as a glove.

Compré este producto en enero de 2021 por 130€ aproximadamente. A fecha de hoy está bastante más caro, pero no puedo dejar de recomendarlo porque en estos 3 años recién cumplidos su funcionamiento ha sido impecable. El producto no trae software alguno, solo el alimentador (pequeño, quizá lo podrían haber includo en la carcasa, y un cable de datos USB 3 a USB A. Bien embalado, nada más sacarlo de la caja, el peso nos hace ver que es un producto robusto, en las manos todo es métálico excepto la parte frontal que pertenece a la unidad Bluray interna, una LG 16X. La unidad es muy contundente y elegante, no tiene problemas de reconocimiento alguno en Windows o Linux, no la he usado en Mac pero intuyo que tampoco habrá problemas. Todos los discos CD, DVD o Bluray que le he metido los ha leido a la perfección, y he grabado muchos de 25Gb sin ningun error, aunque esto es mérito también de los disco BDR. En fin, que es una compra recomendable, aunque quizá los más de 200 euros que cuesta a fecha de esta reseña, echen para atrás a más de uno.

I've had several optical drives from old Mac Pro systems and thought this would be a good companion for a Mac Pro. And it is, it looks great on top of a Mac tower case, it blends in. It's not meant to be portable - with an optical drive inside it, it weighs just over 3 pounds, and just over 2 pounds empty; it's meant to look great on your desk or shelf. Very solid construction, no sharp edges or other manufacturing issues. I knew it would come with a US power adapter only but luckily it works with 100-240V and it's the bog-standard barrel jack. It says it's USB 3.2 but I couldn't verify because I don't have any bluray drives that would saturate the USB bandwidth. I know I can burn DVDs at maximum speed.
