CompTIA Security+ Study Guide: Exam SY0-601 (Sybex Study Guide): 9781119736257: Computer Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: Good study guides - This helped me get my certifications, worth the money Review: To pass the exam, here are reasons why this book was all I needed. - Yup, definitely the right book. I’ll give you a few examples why. First, know that the new SY0-601 exam covers new topics. You can go on CompTIA’s website and see the new Exam Objectives. In the beginning of the book, this Study Guide shows those new exam objectives AND maps each one to the chapter where you’ll find where it’s covered. Not just the five ‘domains’ but actually each and every objective and sub-objective. That told me the book covers what I need for the exam, so I was happy to see that. Every little exam topic under the objectives, you can search for – they call them “key terms.” Another thing I found very helpful -the practice exam questions. Actually, there are 2 full length exams. It’s like taking the test (twice) before sitting for the real test. If you can ‘pass’ the practice exams, you can feel very confident about the actual cert exam. That’s how I knew I was ready. Add on to that - every chapter has 20+ questions (17 chapters * 20 questions = 340 questions about chapter topics). I saw there are flashcards, but I didn’t check them out. I’m sure they’ll be helpful to some people. Good for a quick memory game. 😊 It’s one more thing to help. Okay, one more thing - “Exam Essentials” after every chapter. I found those super helpful. They are a very condensed bulleted version of the chapter. If you make time just to read every Exam Essentials – you got an excellent idea of what’s on the exam. In general, - from my experience, I find Sybex Study Guides (these black, red and white ones) always line up best with what’s on the exam. Coworkers who have taken cert tests after trying other guides -they’ve told me the same. So, call me a loyal customer to be fair. But I think these books have earned it. If somebody wants to read fluffy theory, there are other books. But if you want to read what you need for SY0-601, guaranteed you’re going to find it in this Study Guide. If you want to pass the exam, don’t bother taking a chance on another book.

Did the job
If you are an experienced IT person with a good background in network fundamentals I think you might be able to pass the test with this book. I read through the whole book once writing down notes (probably didn't need to do this the first time) and took the test at the end of each chapter. Then I scanned through it a second time writing down the things I didn't remember or know and took the tests again. I happened to have access to a training site at work and they were doing a live online Security+ course as well so I took the test right after that and passed. One thing neither the book or course prepared me for were the interactive questions. If you can find some practice exams that include those that will be a big help. A lot of stuff in the book wasn't even mentioned on the test. Maybe it was just the questions I got dunno. Honestly having been in IT for almost 30 years I thought the test and a lot of the material isn't very practical. Lots of acronyms, frameworks, organization names, etc. Lots of gotcha type questions (several answers might be right but pick the one that is most right!). But I need the cert for something I'm doing.

Studied for 2 months. Passed on the first try.
Studied for 2 months. Passed on the first try. 550 question test bank and flash cards. This book will put you in a very good place for test prep. It did NOT embellish on extra information, and kept to topics that were on the test. The ad said (at the time I purchased it) that it included a CD with access codes for the on-line practice test bank. The CD was not included. On the back cover is info to contact the publisher, register the book, receive a log-in code, and access for the on-line material. On-line material is good for one year after registration. Good luck on your test!
