Depends on how high the tank is I have a 24x24x18 and I put mine about halfway up the side of the glass

They are very high strength neodymium magnets.

Can it be used in a chameleon cage?

It will function properly in any cage that has 1/4 inch or less thick walls, including a screen cage. This was designed to hold plastic cups for feeding geckos which chameleons will not eat or drink out of. So yes it can be placed in a chameleon cage, but I can't think of any benefit to using it in a chameleon cage.

Can these be used on plastic tubs

The ledge can be used on plastic tubs without any issues.
